Concept
When Berries were revamped in Generation 3, I had always been fascinated with their uses and as I became fully aware of the metagame, I was equally excited when I found that Berries had their small niche to them. So in this article, I'd like to talk about berry strategies and why they might be a good option to balance teams.
**The article would primarily focus on the metagame via wi-fi, as that has been the most experience I
have had the pleasure of enjoying.
Intro
-Start with a brief history of berries from generation 2-6.
-Explain the use and misuse of berries in game vs. Metagame
-Answer questions 1 & 2 listed below
Questions That will be Answered
-Why are Berries so uncommonly used in the metagame?
-Why should trainers consider using a berry for their item slot?
-When is it best to use a super effective berry?
-Do healing berries such as Sitrus have a Viable place in the metagame?
-Lum vs. Chesto, on why Lum is an overall better berry.
Examples of two pokemon Utilizing a tried and true berry play
For each example, I'm going to stick to current metagame factors to the best of my ability. I personally would like to use:
Subsalac Espeon
Timid@salac
Magic Bounce
252 spd/252 sp.atk/ 4 def
-Substitute
-Signal Beam
-Psychic
-Shadow Ball
-------------------------------
Rest/Lum Exeggutor
modest@lum
Harvest
248 hp/ 176 sp.atk/ 84 speed
-rest
-sleep powder
-giga drain
-psychic
New Berries
-I was originally planning to use examples of pokemon that could utilize the berries to the best of their ability. However, considering Treecko's point when I asked them about using a Sylveon holding a Kee berry, I would like to instead write about the potential of Kee and Maranga, and why they failed to live up to the said potential.
-I will also give Roseli a little bit of attention, but many of the dragons who could possibly benefit from the berry prefer to utilize other items in their playstyle, though the search for a good Roseli Berry candidate is still ongoing.
Conclusion
*explain that even though berry play is rare to find, it's a viable strategy that can sometimes surprise your opponents who may have expected something different from you.
*explain that while often times berries an ultimatley items in general may hold promising descriptions, it's moot when certain aspects of their use prevent them from being viable in strategy.
