So this is my third RMT, and I think I'm getting a little better at it. I'm no pro yet, so bear with me. With some more practice, I'll be a force to be reckoned with. XD
Anyway, I decided I wanted a Curse Regirock. This team will be built primarily around him.
Curse Regirock is nothing without Sandstorm, and I didn't want Tyranitar due to type similarity.
I decided that, like cursetar, curse regirock would appreciate toxic spikes, so I chose a roserade lead.
I hate it when my entry hazards are spinned away, so I chose gengar for spin-blocking.
Okay, from here, I decided that I wanted a revenge killer/mixed sweeper. I thought lucario, with massive mixed attacking stats, would work.
I noticed that I was still a little weak to opposing ghosts, like gengar, so I wanted a pursuit user. For some unknown reason, staraptor jumped out at me.
In retrospect, I have no idea why I wanted staraptor. Wishvaporeon would benefit my team better here.
On the recommendation of franky, I've dropped Gengar in favor of Rotom-H.
Okay, now let's go into each one with a little more depth:
Spiking Lead:
Grima (Roserade) @Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid (Atk- Spd+)
Evs: 252Spd 252Sp.Atk 6Hp
Moveset:
-Sleep Powder
-Toxic Spikes
-Leaf Storm
-Hidden Power [Ground]
Strategy:
She sets up Toxic Spikes very reliabley, almost ensuring both layers with Focus Sash. Sleep Powder puts one pokemon out of commission for the rest of the match, though the shaky 75% accuracy lets me down all too often. The other moves are for attacking if I'm still alive, or for countering things like swampert and hippowdon later on. I need to beware of fast taunt users like azelf and aerodactyl, though.
Priority Revenge Killer/Sweeper:
Warg (Lucario) @Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Rash (Sp.Atk+ Sp.Def-)
Evs: 252Sp.Atk 104Atk 152Spd
Moveset:
-Vacuum Wave
-ExtremeSpeed
-Crunch/Bullet Punch
-Hidden Power [Ice]
Strategy:
I basically wanted something with priority moves to help take out faster threats. This lucario's gold is in the element of surprise. I'll switch in, use extremespeed or crunch to fool the opponent into expecting an SD set or a physical set, and then take out the switch-in with one of my special moves. Speed isn't as important since lucario is here mainly for his priority attacks. I didn't choose bullet punch because, though it has STAB, it provideds rather redundant type coverage next to vacuum wave. One benefit would be the ability to hit ghost types with a priority move, as well as other physically-frail pokemon that wouldn't mind a vacuum wave. Plus, it's STAB'd. Help me decided whether or not to get bullet punch!
I need alot of help with this guy. The Evs are rather sloppy, and I'm not sure whether or not to get bullet punch.
Wish Support/Bulky Water:
Saruman (Vaporeon) @Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature: Bold (Atk- Def+)
Evs: 184Hp 252Def 68Spd
Moveset:
-Wish
-Protect
-Surf
-Hidden Power [Electric]
Strategy:
Vaporeon provides welcome wish support for my team, as well as being a great bulky water. He's a solid check for crocune, infernape, and gyarados. Vaporeon also provides great synergy with hippowdon, except for the fact that they're both weak to grass. Vaporeon can absorb water attacks at hippowdon, and hippowdon can absorb electric attacks at vaporeon. Thanks for the recommendation, franky! ^_^
Spin-blocker/special sweeper (wifi):
Gollum (gengar) @Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid (Atk- Spd+)
Evs: 252Spd 252Sp.Atk 4Def
Moveset:
-Shadow Ball/HP Fire
-Thunderbolt/Energy Ball
-Focus Blast/Energy Ball
-Trick
Strategy:
Okay, my main strategy here is to put the opponent's rapid spinner out of commission. Regirock really likes toxic spikes, and I really hate having them blown away when my roserade is already KO'd. HP Fire would obliterate forretress, but shadow ball is a reliable move with STAB. Thunderbolt as a standard move to create a gyarados check, as well as hitting tentacruel for supereffective damage. Focus Blast is standard, but the terrible 70% accuracy is a bit too much of a risk for my taste. For this reason, energy ball, to hit donphan for supereffective damage, seems to be a bit more attractive to me. Trick, if I get the chance, is for removing boosting sweepers and crippling some of gengar's common switch-ins. Obviously, the more pokemon I can cripple, the better. ;)
Spin Blocker/Special Sweeper (shoddy):
Sauron (Rotom-H) @Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Modest (Sp.Atk+ Atk-)
Evs: 252Spd 252Sp.Atk 6Hp
Moveset:
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball
-Overheat
-Trick
Strategy:
Basically the same as gengar. He makes a good check for some of the things my team is weak against, and it's always useful to have a ghost for rapid spin/explosion blocking support. He can only be used in competitive battles on shoddy, though.
SandStreamer/Physical Wall:
Mordor (Hippowdon) @Leftovers
Ability: SandStream
Nature: Impish (Def+ Sp.Atk-)
Evs: 252Hp 168Def 88Sp.Def
Moveset:
-Earthquake
-Slack Off
-Stealth Rock
-Roar/Toxic
Strategy:
He's basically here to start sandstorm for regirock. He can reliably set up SR, and he really likes toxic spikes as well. Toxic is a very appealing option, though, to poison those pesky levitaters/flyers that avoid the spikes. Roar is very helpful for phazing Baton Pass teams, though. Anway, with Slack Off, I can shrug off any physcial attacks that come my way while my opponent helplessly succumbs to the poison.
Team Core/Late-Game physical sweeper/mixed wall:
Isengard (Regirock) @Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Careful (Sp.Def+ Sp.Atk-)
Evs: 252Hp 252Sp.Def 6Atk
Moveset:
-Curse
-Rest
-Hammer Arm/Rock Slide/Sleep Talk
-Ice Punch
Strategy:
Come in on sandstorm, absorb just about anything the opponent throws at me while I curse up, and rest off any damage I might take. I feel as though two attacks are needed not only for coverage reasons, but for pp reasons as well. Stone Edge, while powerful, has a disappointing accuracy, and with the low pp, a terrible choice for a solo move. Rock Slide would be better; it still receives STAB, and has better pp. Still, I can't help but think that I can afford to forgoe the two turns needed by rest. Ice Punch simply for coverage; if there's a different move that would fit better here, then let me know.
