ORAS OU Beyoncé takes LIVES! (Mega-Gardevoir balance team)

Hi smogon, teamjolteon4ever here with a team I recently made myself, based around one of the best wall-breakers in the OU tier: Mega-Gardevoir. A very powerful offensive threat with very few, if any, consistent switch-ins, Mega-Gardevoir is a mon I've always wanted to build a team around. I did make this in only a day or so, so I could really use some constructive criticism. Let's begin!

gardevoir-mega.gif

I started off with Mega-Gardevoir, using the basic special wallbreaker set. I recognized that Gardevoir is very physically frail, so I wanted at least one or two mons that could soak up physical hits. Additionally, I wanted at least stealth rock (a staple on, like, every team ever), and potentially spikes as well to wear down my opponent's team and to help turn some 2HKOs into OHKOs. I settled with a defensive Landorus-Therian and Ferrothorn to provide rocks and spikes, respectively, as well as to eat up physical hits and beat many physical attackers that could KO Gardevoir.

ferrothorn.gif

Defog doesn't make sense on a hazard stacking team in general, so I opted for rapid spin support in the form of Starmie (Excadrill didn't synergize as well with the two I had just added, and I needed something for fire types that would plague Ferrothorn). With Starmie's spinning, I could afford to have entry hazard-weak mons, and so I added Talonflame to form a bit of a G-F-W core and to give my team some offensive presence outside of Gardevoir.

To complete my team, I wanted a volt switch user that could be paired with Landorus-T's u-turn, as well as something that could kill pesky steel types like scizor that could cause chaos for Gardevoir (I didn't want to always have to resort to flare-blitzing them to death, especially if I had to remove one before I could remove rocks from my side). Magnezone seemed to be the perfect fit for these roles.

Once I roughly laid out my team design, I needed to start filling in move sets.

Beyoncé (Gardevoir-Mega) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Taunt

Hyper Voice hits incredibly hard and does massive damage to most Pokemon that don't resist fairy. Psyshock hits special walls, most notably Chansey, on their Defense, allowing Gardevoir to break through them. Focus Blast hits the Steel-types that resist Gardevoir's STAB moves, such as Ferrothorn. Taunt allows Gardevoir to break through defensive Pokemon such as Chansey and Cresselia, and works well with Psyshock especially on Chansey and other dedicated special walls. The EVs and nature maximize its offensive presence and sheer damage output.

Ability: Intimidate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 248 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

Earthquake is Landorus-T's best STAB attack due to its great power and perfect accuracy; it provides defensive Landorus-T with a way of hitting opposing Pokemon hard and allows him to maintain some offensive presence. U-turn allows Landorus-T to pivot out and gain momentum; it works well with Landorus-T's defensive potential, as it can force a switch quite easily when sent in against a physical threat. Stone Edge hits Flying-types, such as Talonflame and Thundurus, and Levitate users that are immune to Earthquake for super effective damage. Stealth Rock bc stealth rock lol. The EVs and nature maximize its physical bulk.

Deathweed (Ferrothorn) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip

Spikes lets Ferrothorn heavily pressure defensively oriented teams, provide residual damage upon switchins, and help Mega-Gardevoir wallbreaker more easily. Leech Seed gives Ferrothorn a way of recovering health, as it lacks reliable recovery. The damage Leech Seed does is also useful for chipping away at the opponent's health. Gyro Ball is Ferrothorn's primary choice for an attacking move, as it OHKOes opposing Mega Gardevoir, and does significant damage to many fast Pokemon such as Latios, Latias, Gengar, and Fairy-types such as Clefable and Sylveon. Power Whip is used so that Ferrothorn can deal with Substitute Mega Gyarados and hit Azumarill, Keldeo, Excadrill, and Hippowdon hard. The EVs and nature maximize its mixed bulk.

Ability: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Psyshock

Scald is an extremely spammable STAB move that threatens anything that wants to switch into Starmie with the chance of a burn, allowing it to wear down its bulkier switch-ins and cripple physical attackers entirely. Rapid Spin allows it to remove entry hazards while preserving its own, which is useful because I utilize both rocks and spikes. Recover gives Starmie longevity, potentially allowing it to outlast the opponent's entry hazard setters and remove their entry hazards permanently. It also allows Starmie to take on threats such as Keldeo and Mega Metagross multiple times, fulfilling an important defensive role. Psyshock allows Starmie to comfortably switch into and beat Calm Mind Keldeo, which it would lose to otherwise, meaning it can switch into any Keldeo lacking a super effective Hidden Power comfortably. It also has decent coverage alongside Scald, hitting Poison-types such as Mega Venusaur, Dragalge, and Gengar. Hitting Gengar is particularly important, as it prevents it from attempting to spinblock Starmie. The EVs and nature allow it to maintain its excellent speed tier while still having decent overall bulk.

Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost
- Brave Bird

Brave Bird is a strong STAB move that gets priority thanks to Gale Wings, making it the single best offensive move Talonflame can carrry. Roost is a very important move on this set, because without it Talonflame cannot consistently set up and will get worn down too much over the course of the battle. Swords Dance enables Talonflame to set up, letting it break past Mega Sableye and possibly pull off a sweep. After just one Swords Dance, it hits quite hard and can find many opportunities to set up thanks to its bulk. Will-O-Wisp enables Talonflame to disable physical attackers, such as Tyranitar, Rhyperior, and Tyrantrum. It also helps wear down defensive Pokemon, such as Rotom-W, Hippowdon, and Slowbro, as well as special attackers such as Mega Manectric, Thundurus, and Raikou. It also helps Talonflame dodge Sucker Punches from Bisharp and set up on Foul Play Mandibuzz that lack Toxic or Whirlwind. The EVs and nature allow it to hit as hard as possible while having decent overall bulk.

- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch

- Hidden Power [Fire]

Volt Switch is a useful source of momentum for Magnezone, especially with a Choice Scarf, and completes the volt-turn core with Landorus-T. Hidden Power Fire is used in the second slot to 2HKO both Ferrothorn and Scizor, which Magnezone can trap with Magnet Pull and eliminate for its teammates, which is hugely helpful for Mega-Gardevoir. Flash Cannon serves as a consistent secondary STAB move that is useful for hitting Fairy-types super effectively and providing neutral coverage on Ground- and Dragon- types such as Garchomp, which otherwise give Magnezone a hard time. Finally, Thunderbolt is used in the last slot for stronger Electric-type STAB. The EVs and nature allow magnezone to outspeed as many threats as it can while hitting as hard as possible.

Hi, p cool team you got there, I have some suggestions to make it better

1.

Your team does look really weak to common electrics like Mega Manectric and Thundurus, so I suggest replacing Magnezone with Calm Mind Raikou. Raikou is able to turn the aforementioned electrics into setup fodder and pseudo-BoltBeam coverage grants nearly perfect coverage and 115 speed tier is really solid. Having another win condition is also nice.

Bulkier Spread

The EV spread you gave doesn't really optimise Talonflame's potential, a set utilising WoW would typically appreciate a bulkier spread for getting more setup opportunities. This EV spread of 248 HP / 32 Def / 168+ SpD /60 Spe is solid for taking hits your initial spread wouldn't otherwise have taken. No item Acrobatics seems better as opposed to Lefties BB because the recoil is kind of annoying for this set, especially since Rocky Helmet Lando-T is rising in popularity. Speed EVs outspeed Jolly Excadrill too.
Calcs
252 SpA Life Orb Latios Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Talonflame: 374-442 (104.1 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Latios Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 168+ SpD Talonflame: 274-325 (76.3 - 90.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Swords Dance > U-Turn

Mega-Scizor is a real issue for you after taking out Magnezone, as Talonflame alone cannot reliably check it, so I recommend this switch to pressure Mega-Scizor more and bulkier teams in general, notably teams with Calm Mind Clefable. You do lose some switch initiative with the loss of U-Turn but with the omnipresence of Rocky Helmet users such as Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T you don't get a lot of value out of it anyway, so Swords Dance looks like a better fit. Small nitpick on the EVs, 8 Speed EVs to outspeed 219 speed Rotom-W to help you in a pinch.

Reflect Type > Psyshock

Bisharp poses a distinct threat to your team as you have no dark resist and your spinner is vulnerable to getting Pursuit trapped. Trappers like Tyranitar, Weavile and Bisharp are commonly paired with pokemon that appreciate Psychic types gone, such as Keldeo, which your Starmie is in charge of checking. Reflect Type allows you to bypass Pursuit, granting Starmie safety to take on the threats that is it meant to switch into, and stay in on Ferrothorn which you otherwise are forced to switch out on. While the loss of Psyshock does make you more vulnerable to Calm Mind Keldeo, you do have Talonflame and Raikou for backup options if things go awry.

That's all from me, Gardevoir and Ferrothorn seem okay so nothing to point there. Hope the changes helped 〜(^∇^〜)

Your team looks very weak against shedinja stall. I recommend you to change Focus Blast for HP Fire on gardevoir. Deffensives Heatrans will may be an issue tho, but you can change the Tallonflame's set to SD Taunt and setup on them.

Hey, really team here however it have some flaws but no worry i'll try to fix them.

I noticed that your team was really Bisharp weak, you don't have any switch-in to knock off (Ferrothorn is your only one and he can't really hit Bisharp back and it loose to the SD variant) and at +2, Bisharp can't be stopped. You are also weak to Wallbreaker such as Gengar (which threat all your team) and M-Alakazam for exemple, both of them eat Balanced like yours.

First, i'd suggest to use Hippowdon over Landorus-T, Hippowdon will still work as Ground type (but now as better Electric check since he doesn't really care about Hidden POwer Ice) and as Stealth Rocker, he will still check physical attacker (M-Gross, M-Lopunny and Zard-X ect) like Landorus-T does. its ability Sand Stream, send an Sand Storm which will help M-Gardevoir since it will hurt any non-steel/rock/ground types on the field (M-Gardevoir love it with like hazard support), it will also help to wear down thing like Hoopa-U which are annoying for your team. Hippowdon will also work as great Bisharp check since it can leave an for exemple +2 Sucker Punch.

i'd suggest to use the Chople Berry on Ferrothorn, it will allow you to beat thing like Gengar, M-Alakazam which are threating for your team and to have a better time with like Choice Band Azumarill.

I don't really like this Talon set on this team, i'd suggest to just use the Specially Defensive one.
