Set Details
========
- Kyogre is an extremely powerful special attacker that uses the Rain that it sets and its high BP Water-type attacks to deal incredible damage to almost every Pokemon. It matches up well into most Pokemon slower than it, especially those that don't resist its Water-type attacks.
- Water Spout is Kyogre's strongest attack, OHKOing or 2HKOing almost every Pokemon. Hydro Pump and Origin Pulse serve as secondary Water-type attacks that function when Kyogre has taken enough damage to make them stronger than Water Spout. Hydro Pump is better into Wide Guard users such as Zamazenta-C and Lunala, while Origin Pulse is a spread move. Thunder allows Kyogre to threaten the Water-type Pokemon that resist its Water-type attacks such as Kyogre and Urshifu-R, while Ice Beam lets Kyogre threaten Miraidon and Rillaboom.
- Mystic Water boosts Kyogre's Water-type attacks even further, letting it OHKO most Calyrex-S sets.
- The Speed investment allows Kyogre to outspeed base 135 Speed Pokemon after an Icy Wind. The HP investment allows Kyogre to live a Thunderbolt from bulky Magnet Raging Bolt while the rest of the EVs are dumped into Special Attack.
- Tera Grass is used to give Kyogre a resistance to the Grass- and Electric-type attacks that threaten it. This is especially helpful to prevent priority attacks such as Rillaboom's Grassy Glide and Raging Bolt's Thunderclap from weakening Kyogre's Water Spout too much. Tera Grass also lets Kyogre ignore Rage Powder and Spore from Amoonguss, letting it potentially get an attack off into Amoonguss's partner.
Teambuilding
=========
- Because Kyogre runs at least 2 Water-type moves, it often has to choose which Pokemon it will be checked by. Rillaboom and Raging Bolt are problems if Kyogre runs Thunder, opposing Kyogre can be an issue if it runs Ice Beam, and all three are problematic if it runs Origin Pulse. Koraidon and Miraidon are also problematic as they resist Kyogre's Water-type attacks while Koraidon also changes the weather, weaking Kyogre's attacks.
- Calyrex-I pairs well with Kyogre, as it threatens Rillaboom, Raging Bolt, Koraidon, and Miraidon for super effective damage. It can also set Trick Room against faster teams, letting Kyogre use Water Spout without having to worry about taking damage. Zacian-C and Zamazenta-C are both good partners as well because of their good damage output, letting Kyogre clean up against weakened foes or letting them clean up after Kyogre has spread damage with Water Spout. Zacian-C is especially good into Miraidon and Raging Bolt, while Zamazenta-C is better at spreading damage.
- Amoonguss can heal Kyogre with Pollen Puff, letting it spam Water Spout against slower foes. It can also redirect attacks away from Kyogre, keeping it safe and letting it use Water Spout without worrying about faster foes. Tailwind setters like Roaring Moon, Tornadus, and Iron Jugulis help Kyogre against faster foes if they do not also have a Tailwind setter. Tornadus and Iron Jugulis can also threaten Grass-type Pokemon and Koraidon, while Roaring Moon can use Knock Off to remove Iron Hand's and Rillaboom's Assault Vest.
