Blacephalon [QC 0/3]

IBM

Banned deucer.
[OVERVIEW]

• Blacephalon is one of the most powerful special attackers in the metagame with a decent movepool and a high power signature STAB move that can be as harmful as it is helpful.

• Blacephalon’s decent movepool and great ghost/fire typing allow it to be one of the best stallbreakers in the game, with it having a very positive matchup against every stall pokemon in the meta, such as Deoxys, Slowbro, and Serperior.

• Blacephalon’s horrible bulk, however, is the main drawback to using it, dying to most unresisted non stab moves with its pitiful defenses.

• Blacephalon’s poor coverage options also make it less usable than other prevalent special attackers in the metagame.

Moves
========

• Shadow Ball is the primary attacking move to use on blacephalon, being a powerful STAB move that doesn’t have the cost of recoil, beating +2 Deoxys-Speed, and Slowbro-Mega.

• Mind Blown is for any Grass, Steel, or Normal types that wouldn’t normally be killed by Z Shadow Ball, like Magearna or Ferrothorn.

• Calm mind is used to boost against opposing stall pokemon with a high spdef stat, or if you are wary that your ghost z move or mind blown might not kill a bulky opponent. This usually helps against pokemon like non-waterium Tapu Fini and Volcarona.

• Taunt and substitute can be interchanged as different tools to shut down stall, while taunt lets you stop an opponent from boosting defenses and substitute lets you survive a potential z move from a different pokemon. Taunt helps against pokemon such as Type:Null and Serperior.

• Substitute helps against pokemon with a one use strong attack such as Aegislash and Necrozma.

Set Details
========

•Because of Blacephalon’s extremely poor bulk, there is no reason to put EV’s into its defensive stats, rather focusing on maximizing its Speed and Special attack. This lets blacephalon outspeed and kill non Spdef Charizard-Mega-X.

•4 defense is enough to live a shadow sneak from a 0 Atk Aegislash.

Usage Tips
========

• Generally, Blacephalon will usually want to click its z move or mind blown first if you know that you can kill.

• If the opposing pokemon has enough bulk to live one attack and is slower than you, such as Tapu Fini, calm mind first and then use the strongest attack turn 2.

• Against pokemon that can either boost their special defense to match you or are overly reliant on status, such as Type:Null or Serperior, taunt the first turn, then either calm mind or attack.

• Pokemon that can boost their special defense at a higher rate than you can raise special attack and/or taunt you, such as Mew, Slowbro-Mega, or Deoxys-Speed, using your z move turn 1 before they can boost to disproportionate amounts to your boosting and to not risk the opponent taunting on your boost.

• NEVER use mind blown at or below 50%. Using mind blown causes you to take damage before your opponent, causing you to lose the battle of the recoil kills you. Mind blown damage also rounds UP, so even odd hp will not let you use 2 mind blowns a in a row.

Team Options
========

• Good options to pair with Blacephalon are bulky offensive pokemon to beat all out attackers, which Blacephalon is usually very weak to. This can include pokemon like Gyarados-Mega or Zygarde-Complete, which can both take a hit from offense like Charizard-Mega or Metagross-Mega.

• Blacephalon also works well with stall pokemon like Serperior or Slowbro-Mega, who can also shut down attackers and stall that Blacephalon may be weak to, such as Porygon2 and Sableye-Mega.

• Yet another option for teammates for Blacephalon is pokemon with synergistic typings. Grass and water types can be used to create a strong fire-water-grass core to defend against its weakness to Ground, Rock, and Water type pokemon. Examples of this can be Greninja or Venusuar-Mega.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

• Blacephalon can also sometimes run a Choice Specs set in order to have a stronger mind blown and also gain coverage that Blacephalon usually lacks with only a Ghost and Fire type attack.

• Another option is a Choice Scarf set which an sometimes bait out faster attackers, such as Greninja or Kartana.

Checks and Counters
===================

• Bulky offensive pokemon such as specially defensive Charizard-Mega, Dragonite, and Gyarados-Mega, can all live from Blacephalon’s strongest attack and OHKO back with their respective attacks.

• Dark type pokemon such as Sableye-Mega, Greninja, and Tyranitar can quickly finish off Blacephalon with their choice of dark type attack or other decent attack while not taking lethal damage from Blacephalon’s Z move.

• Normal type pokemon such as Meloetta and Porygon2 are immune to Blacephalon’s Z move and force it to risk using mind blown in an attempt to defeat the opponent.

For all of these, what does Blacephalon do in return?

• Good options to pair with Blacephalon are bulky offensive pokemon to beat all out attackers, which Blacephalon is usually very weak to. This can include pokemon like Gyarados-Mega or Zygarde-Complete, which can both take a hit from offense like Charizard-Mega or Metagross-Mega. These examples are kind of weird, especially since Gyarados loses to Thunder Punch Metagross. Do all-out-attackers means faster Pokemon? Or do you mean Bulky Offense? Either way you have to change this. I'm assuming that this point is supposed to mean faster Pokemon because the point below mentions bulky things, so say like Mega Lopunny and Archeops, and then maybe put Charizard and Metagross below.

• Blacephalon also works well with stall pokemon like Serperior or Slowbro-Mega, who can also shut down bulky attackers attackers and stall that Blacephalon may be weak to, such as Porygon2 and Sableye-Mega.

Good instincts for removing filler text and language, but remember to always justify edits you make, unless its a repeat then w/ever. Additionally, the overview could have been filled with more info, even tho blacephalon is pretty simplistic in nature

Just a footnote if you do make another analysis: Mega Pokemon not Mega-Pokemon and use SWS (Single-width Space) over DWS.
[OVERVIEW]

• Blacephalon is one of the most powerful special attackers in the metagame You're misleading the player with this information, making them think that it's top tier. Since this really isn't a great mon you don't have to overexaggerate its capabilities. I'd change this to something like "hardest hitter" or "capable of dealing great blows" with a decent movepool and a high power signature STAB move in Mind Blown that can be as harmful as it is helpful. Be specific of what move you're using, as a new player might not know what you're referring to.

• Blacephalon’s decent movepool and great ghost/fire typing allow it to be one of the best stallbreakers in the game, with it having a very positive matchup against every stall pokemon in the meta, such as Deoxys-S, Slowbro, and Serperior. This is repetitive and semi-redundant due to Blacephalon already having the type advantage in those cases.

• Despite Blacephalon's lack of viable coverage moves, it makes itself known as a great specially-offensive presence due to its overwhelming STAB options in Shadow Ball and Mind Blown, and its ability to break stall which is normally a flaw of hyper offense with its key status-moves, like Calm Mind and Taunt, impressively allowing Blacephalon to beat Type: Null and Occa Berry Whimsicott.

• Blacephalon’s horrible bulk, however, is the main drawback to using it, dying to most unresisted non stab moves from the most common genres of Pokemon in the metagame being bulky offense and hyper offense which can either take a hit from Blacephalon and return with a more powerful hit, like Zygarde-C, Dragonite, or Mega Charizard X, or outspeed Blacephalon and KO it easily, Pokemon like Archeops, Zeraora or Mega Lopunny fulfill this category. That gets a little too specific and it can also take hits from some of those moves.

• Blacephalon’s poor coverage options also make it less usable than other prevalent special attackers in the metagame. This is already stated in the point I stated above the above.

• Blacephalon's typing of Fire- / Ghost-, though allowing it for some interesting STAB options can also be its downfall as it shares many weaknesses that common Pokemon have the typing of in the 1v1 metagame, or is resisted by many Pokemon, or both. Examples of these include Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Zygarde-C, Primarina, and Tapu Fini.

• If Blacephalon is outclassed by anything, you should put it here and give reasoning/compare why.

Moves
========

• Shadow Ball combined with Ghostium Z is the primary attacking move to use on blacephalon, being a powerful STAB move that doesn’t have the cost of recoil trading off less base power for no recoil, beating +2 Deoxys-Speed, and Slowbro-Mega. +2 what

• Mind Blown is for any Grass, Steel, or Normal types that wouldn’t normally be killed hit super effectively (you're still gonna use z-shadow ball or a status move unless mind blown is super effective) by Z Shadow Ball, like Magearna or Ferrothorn., though at the opportunity cost of losing 50% of Blacephalon's HP when using this move. (it looks like just a better move without mentioning the cons)

• Calm mind is used to boost against opposing stall pokemon with a high HP or spdef stat, or if you are wary that your ghost z move or mind blown might not kill a bulky opponent. This usually helps against pokemon like non-waterium Tapu Fini and Volcarona. (Fini just 2HKOs with Z-Nature's Madness --> Brine, and Volcarona doesn't even run bulk so you can just 2HKO it with Z-Shadow Ball into Shadow Ball without taking much damage.

Taunt and substitute can be interchanged as different tools to shut down stall, while taunt lets you stop an opponent from boosting defenses and substitute lets you survive a potential z move from a different pokemon. Taunt helps against pokemon such as Type:Null and Serperior. (Put these moves in different points, just make this line taunt and the other line can be edited)

• Substitute helps blocks Blacephalon against from pokemon with a one use strong attack Z- or recharge-move sucks (wha?) such as Aegislash and Necrozma, respectively. (Lines like this need to be more fleshed out, you're doing the bare minimum for some of these)

Set Details
========

•Because of Blacephalon’s extremely poor bulk, there is no reason to put EV’s into its defensive stats, rather focusing on maximizing its Speed and Special attack explain why timid. This lets These investments allow blacephalon outspeed and kill non Spdef Charizard-Mega-X.

•4 defense is enough to live a shadow sneak from a 0 Atk Aegislash. (No need for explaining the extra 4)

Usage Tips
========

• Generally, Blacephalon will usually want to click its z move or mind blown first if you know that you can kill. (Nononono, this line is grammatically incorrect, very bare-bones, and is just really obvious to the reader. Remove)

• If the opposing pokemon has enough bulk to live one attack and is slower than you, such as Tapu Fini, calm mind first and then use the strongest attack turn 2. Fini just wins, choose a different example

• Against pokemon that can either boost their special defense to match you or are overly reliant on status, such as Type:Null or Serperior, taunt the first turn, then either calm mind or attack, depending on their bulk or typing. (Specification)

Pokemon that can boost their special defense at a higher rate than you can raise special attack and/or taunt you, such as Mew, Slowbro-Mega, or Versus Deoxys-Speed, using use your z move turn 1 before they it can boost to disproportionate amounts to your boosting if you'd use Calm Mind and to not risk the opponent taunting on your boosts. (I'll make an exception for Deoxys-S but most of these are just obvious, use the ghost move on the psychic type)

• NEVER use mind blown at or below 50%. Using mind blown causes you to take damage before your opponent, causing you to lose the battle of the recoil kills you. Mind blown damage also rounds UP, so even odd hp will not let you use 2 mind blowns a in a row. (This is a good point, I want to see more of this, but seldom use CAPS when writing)

• Mawile matchup w/ sucker punch

• When you should use Substitute, like Aegislash or Necrozma

Team Options
========

• Good options to pair with Blacephalon are bulky offensive pokemon to beat all out attackers, which Blacephalon is usually very weak to. (Give examples of which Pokémon are all out attackers) This can include pokemon like Gyarados-Mega or Diff example or (Gyarados loses to mega Gross) Zygarde-Complete, which can both take a hit from offense like Charizard-Mega or Metagross-Mega. (What does Blacephalon do in return for these Pokémon) Might want to reword this point, a little convoluted

• Blacephalon also works well with stall pokemon like Serperior or Slowbro-Mega, who can also shut down bulky attackers (Consistency) and stall that Blacephalon may be weak to, such as Porygon2 and Sableye-Mega. (What does Blacephalon do in return)

Yet another option for teammates for Blacephalon is pokemon with synergistic typings. (No need for this opening line, you can trim this) Grass and water types can be used to create a strong fire-water-grass core to defend against its weakness to Ground, Rock, and Water type pokemon, like Donphan, Golem, or Mega Gyarados. Examples of this can be Greninja or Venusuar-Mega. (Good but what does Blacephalon do in return?)

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

• Blacephalon can also sometimes run a Choice Specs set in order to have a stronger mind blown and also gain coverage that Blacephalon usually lacks with only a Ghost and Fire type attack. (It's coverage is really just, meh, outside of Hyper Beam. This should really be a con since it's coverage is really lackluster. Also explain why being choiced hinders Blace and thats why its not used over ghostium.)

• Another option is a Choice Scarf set which can sometimes bait out and KO faster attackers, such as Greninja or Kartana. Explain the downsides of using Choice Scarf over other items, or people will be under the impression that its just better.

Checks and Counters
===================

• Bulky offensive pokemon such as specially defensive Charizard-Mega X, Dragonite, and Gyarados-Mega, can all live from Blacephalon’s strongest attack and OHKO back with their respective attacks.

Make a point about hyper offense mons like Zeraora or Greninja which can outspeed and KO Blacephalon

(Change these to the regular analysis format)

• Shadow Ball combined with Ghostium Z is the primary attacking move to use on blacephalon, being a powerful STAB move that doesn’t have the cost of recoil trading off less base power for no recoil, beating +2 Deoxys-Speed, and Slowbro-Mega. +2 what lol thats obvious for everyone, you can just change to 'Deoxys-S after an Amnesia'

• Mind Blown is for any Grass, Steel, or Normal types that wouldn’t normally be killed hit super effectively (you're still gonna use z-shadow ball or a status move unless mind blown is super effective) unsure what you mean here, Mind Blown will always be super effective against Grass- and steel mons and the only thing usable against normal mons by Z Shadow Ball, like Magearna or Ferrothorn., though at the opportunity cost of losing 50% of Blacephalon's HP when using this move. (it looks like just a better move without mentioning the cons)

• Calm mind is used to boost against opposing stall pokemon with a high HP or spdef stat, stall kind of implies high bulk in some way, you could just remove this 'with a high spdef stat' thing. or if you are wary that your ghost z move or mind blown might not kill a bulky opponent. This usually helps against pokemon like non-waterium Tapu Fini and Volcarona. (Fini just 2HKOs with Z-Nature's Madness --> Brine, and Volcarona doesn't even run bulk so you can just 2HKO it with Z-Shadow Ball into Shadow Ball without taking much damage. f these are both kinda wrong.
+1 252 SpA Blacephalon Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 28 SpD Tapu Fini: 340-402 (99.1 - 117.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
you were calcing with the preset analysis set, but you should also be always, every time be looking at the sets that are actually used
you don't beat volcarona with Calm Mind, you beat it with Taunt. if you calm mind that gives them the opportunity to use sub + qd shenanigans to where shadow ball isn't doing enough

Taunt and substitute can be interchanged as different tools to shut down stall, while taunt lets you stop an opponent from boosting defenses and substitute lets you survive a potential z move from a different pokemon. Taunt helps against pokemon such as Type: Null and Serperior. (Put these moves in different points, just make this line taunt and the other line can be edited)

• Substitute helps blocks Blacephalon against from pokemon with a one use strong attack Z- or recharge-move sucks (wha?) such as Aegislash and Necrozma, you ohko necrozma, and aegislash is still a 50/50 with or without sub respectively. (Lines like this need to be more fleshed out, you're doing the bare minimum for some of these)

Set Details
========

(No need for explaining the extra 4) no that is exactly what we do in 1v1, bc 4 evs so often play a role in many mus. But he can specify it serves no purpose.

Usage Tips
========

• Generally, Blacephalon will usually want to click its z move or mind blown first if you know that you can kill. (Nononono, this line is grammatically incorrect, never a reason for a QC person to remove, the rest is fine very bare-bones, and is just really obvious to the reader. Remove)

• If the opposing pokemon has enough bulk to live one attack and is slower than you, such as Tapu Fini, calm mind first and then use the strongest attack turn 2. Fini just wins, choose a different example again not true

• When you should use Substitute, like Aegislash or Necrozma
delete this

Team Options
========

Other Options
=============

===================

• Bulky offensive pokemon such as specially defensive Charizard-Mega X, Dragonite, and Gyarados-Mega, can all live from Blacephalon’s strongest attack and OHKO back with their respective attacks.

Make a point about hyper offense mons like Zeraora or Greninja which can outspeed and KO Blacephalon
