Been both watching and taking part in this specific meta, and while I admit I am often unsure or wrong about a Pokémon's impact in these micrometas, I have been noticing a worrying trend with Meta D, and I want to communicate it before the next slates start.

Pinaturbo
Fire
Abilities: Mold Breaker/Regenerator
HP 70 / ATK 70 / DEF 60 / SP ATK 100 / SP DEF 95 / SPE 115
Movepool: Temper Flare, Flamethrower, Earth Power, Dazzling Gleam, Will-O-Wisp, Parting Shot, Court Change, Blast Burn, Taunt, Burning Jealousy, Burn Up, Ember, Fire Pledge, Fire Spin, Flame Wheel, Incinerate, Sunny Day, Take Down, Rest, Sleep Talk, Snore, Protect, Facade, Substitute, Tera Blast.

Recently, the meta has seen an uptick in the rise of Pinaturbo, to the point that all teams who took part in the last roomtour had a Pinaturbo on their team. At a baseline, Pinaturbo is very effective, with amazing speed, good special attack backed by excellent coverage, and enough bulk to tank a stray hit, which it can heal off thanks to Regenerator. However, the problematic aspect of this Pokemon seems to be its access to Parting Shot and reliable burn.

Pinaturbo is notably the second fastest Pokemon in the metagame with access to a pivoting move, next to the 130 speed Drug. This is notable since Parting Shot enabled several problematic aspects to Pinaturbo's gameplan. Due to the stat-dropping effect of Parting Shot, combined with Pinaturbo's access to Regenerator and very high speed, it has much higher bulk than its stats suggest, since it can just come in, and if the match-up proves to be problematic, Pinaturbo can likely outspeed and pivot to a better switch-in, healing off damage in the process and crippling its supposed counter, forcing several switch-ins in order to get an opportunity at dealing with Pinaturbo again. This compounds with Pina's access to Will-o-Wisp, as it can stack the burn with Parting Shot's stat drops to really cripple its potential switch-ins or counters, letting it sort of "cheese" its bad match-ups. These aspects of Pinaturbo I feel spawn very awkward and unfun situations, as now the match might risk devolving into constant switch-ins until Pina gets in a sore spot, and even then that hit better count since again Pinaturbo can just pivot, drop stats, and heal off smaller hits. Coincidentally, the previous roomtour proved to be on the longer side, as a good chunk of those battles are dedicated to switching around the threat of Pina, inflating the total roomtour length to an hour, when most roomtours only go to the 30-45 min mark.

Then there is a matter of how Pinaturbo enables certain Pokemon to make them far stronger. Drug, a Pokemon I previously underrated, seems to have synergy with Pinaturbo's Parting Shot since it helps shore up Drug's previous survivability issue, meaning it's much safer to let Drug in and let it clean out games. Other potential worrying synergies I could see would be Nekolepsy, whose Storm Drain lets Pinaturbo work around its biggest obvious weakness much more easily, and Deadward, one of the best, or at least most consistent, Pokemon in the metagame, since its own additions of Intimidate and a fast pivot move let it theoretically form a vortex with Pinaturbo, constantly outspeeding, lowering stats, and dealing chip damage over time, all the while Knock Off and Will-o-Wisp can create permanent progress in the long term. I am unsure of other strong synnergies, but Pinaturbo regardless feels like a very splashable, easy to include Pokemon on most serious teams, which doesn't mix well with its problematic aspects.

While I don't think Pinaturbo is the best Pokemon in the meta, that title goes to either Deadward or Grizbearab, the various aspects that make Pinaturbo notable feel very unhealthy when stacked up to the rest of the metagame and just spawn potential for unfun non-games when it gets a lead. Personally, I feel a simple solution is to cut Parting Shot, replacing it with a move like Volt Switch, since that would allow it to both keep its niche as a fast burn-spreading pivot while also giving more counterplay since it will now be much worse into Ground-types, giving more obvious counterplay to Pinaturbo.

Brainstrom:

Monster:

And also...

Pinaturbo:
-Parting Shot
Pinaturbo has been a near omnipresent Pokemon in all of our Meta D roomtours, having the third highest speed in the metagame, and access to pivoting and Regenerator, made it the most unkillable pivots on the entire metagame.
Removing Parting Shot should be a strong enough nerf, now its still has its speed and Regenerator, but does not have the free click that is Parting Shot anymore.
Just so y'all know, due to Pinaturbo being a legacy mon, Parting Shot won't be removed from its movepool, but it'll be banned from using the move in Meta D.

Sign-ups last 48hrs!
