Blasphemy! An UU stall team without Weezing/Steelix/Clefable!?!?!

UU has always been interesting to me, it's a metagame where you can use your favorites and still have a competitive match. Granted, Plusle and Mothim aren't really going to be doing much for you, there's centralization in every tier, and it seems worse in UU then in OU. An UU stall team is what caught my attention the most, and, while utilizing a few of my favorites, is still a bit centralized. Anyways, enough with the talking and on with the team!

*I decided against using Toxic Spikes because of the large ammounts of grounded Poison-types in UU.*

Miltank(F)@Leftovers
Nature:Impish
Ability:Thick Fat
EV's:252HP/224Def/32Spe
-Stealth Rock
-Milk Drink
-Heal Bell
-Body Slam

Ever since G/S/C i've been smitten with Miltank. We've all been swept by Whitney's rollout Miltank but that's a different story for a different time. :P

This Miltank is the standard utility set. It sets up Stealth Rock early on and can heal itself and its teammates from status. Body Slam is there for a strong STAB move and to dish out some Paralysis on enemies. Thick Fat is the preffered ability for more bulk, and Lum Berry is there to make sure Stealth Rock is put on turn 1 no matter what.

003.jpg

Venusaur(M)@Leftovers
Nature:Bold
Ability:Overgrow
EV's:252HP/252Def/4SpA
-Sleep Powder
-Leech Seed
-Energy Ball
-Sludge Bomb/Hidden Power {Fire}

The original grass starter is back and ready to annoy the opponent to no end. We all know how annoying a Sleep Powder/Leech Seed combo is, and undoubtedely Venusaur is one of the top users of it. Great Defensive and Offensive capabilities make it a threat to any team. Energy Ball is chosen for STAB, and Sludge Bomb for secondary STAB and to hit Grass pokes, although i might consider HP Fire for the better type coverage. The EV's are chosen to make Venusaur a physical tank, able to come into Close Combat's easily.

anime136.jpg

Flareon(F)@Leftovers
Nature:Calm
Ability:Flash Fire
EV's:252HP/252SpD/4SpA
-Flamethrower
-Wish
-Protect
-Toxic

Oh Flareon, why are you underestimated so? I've always thought Flareon was at the bottom of the barrel as both an Eeveelution and a Fire-type, but its proved me wrong. Sure, that amazing attack score is wasted on a pokemon with no worthy physical moves, but all it really needs is the moves on this set. Flamethrower for a strong STAB move off a still great 95 base SpA, Wish/Protect for support, healing, and scouting, and Toxic to status Waters and other pokes who switch in. On the topic of Waters, Standard Blastoise's surf is a 3HKO, while Mantine's is a 4HKO, granted I use Protect liberally. Flareon is vital to this team, it forms a great core with Venusaur and Blastoise, while making sure some top special threats like Ninetails, Manectric, Glaceon, and Sunny Day abusers dont run through my team. Flareon is awesome.

anime009.jpg

Blastoise(M)@Leftovers
Nature:Bold
EV's:252HP/252Def/4SpA
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Rapid Spin
-Roar

As much as i love Blastoise, he's the pokemon im most worried about on this team. I would've much rather went with a rest-talk set, but i need rapid spin which just makes me have 1 STAB move thats resisted/immune by so many pokemon. As it stands now, it's still a dependable pokemon, able to put enemies asleep while spinning away the rocks/spikes, and taking hits like a champ.

anime097.jpg

Hypno(F)@Leftovers
Nature:Calm
Ability:Insomnia
EV's:252HP/56Def/200SpD
-Wish
-Reflect
-Seismic Toss
-Psychic

Team player and special wall extroardinare, Hypno is a prime choice for any UU team. That 115 SpD is definately not wasted on a pokemon like Hypno, who will come in and Paralyze the opponent, set up Reflect, Heal itself or its teammates, and batter enemies with Seismic Toss. It's potential is extroardinary, and most of all, gives a vital Psychic resist because they are becoming popular due to the strong Poison/Fighting types in UU.

454.png

Toxicroak(M)@Life Orb/Leftovers
Nature:Timid
Ability:Dry Skin
EV's:252SpA/252Spe/4HP
-Nasty Plot
-Vacuum Wave
-Sludge Bomb
-Shadow Ball

Ok, so Toxicroak isn't a defensive pokemon, but it has handy Bug, Dark, Rock, and Fighting resists (and Water absorb). It's not used for these however. Toxicroak is the late game cleaner who sweeps the enemies team after they are weakened. Of all the sets Toxicroak can run, I found this one to be the most destructive, i've been running this Toxicroak set for months. Nasty Plot to boost its modest Special Attack score, and then plow way with a STAB, priority Vacuum wave and Shadow Ball combo that is unresisted. Sludge bomb is a STAB move, and while its coverage is poor, Poison isn't that bad in UU and after a Nasty Plot destroys everything in its path. Toxicraok can even also serve as a defence against rain sweepers, coming into Surf to waste one turn of rain, and can batter Kaputops and Omastar with Vaccum Wave.

Thanks for looking at my RMT.

~Threat list~

Hitmonlee-The only pokemon i've really had trouble with is Hitmonlee. Scarf version are easy to handle. But Life Orb and Especially Choice Band ones are hard to handle because of no safe switch-in to double Edge. (Miltank is 2HKO'd since it doesn't have Leftovers, and even with Leftovers if there is any residual damage it goes down anyway.)

Swellow-No safe switch-in to Facade/Brave Bird

Miltank's UU?? *goes to check* Holy cow! Miltank's UU!

The team itself looks solid, good defenses, 2 wishers, a spinner. Your Blastoise isnt that bad, Flareon and Hypno will give it enough support to live a while. My only complaint is that I didn't think of it first. Also, you really, really, really lack physical offense (only Body Slam as a physical move). Toxicroak used as a Swords Dancer, with Cross Chop, Sucker Punch and Poison Jab wouldnt be as original, but it would ease that problem (Surf, Ice Beam, Flamethrower and Energy Ball can make up your special offense...kinda).

Hmmm, k thanks i'll look into it....

The physical Toxicroak IMO is more easily walled, what with Weezing popping up everywhere. Ill try both for a while and see which one's more effective.

IMO, if you're running Heal Bell on your Miltank, why not just give it Leftovers? Or even Chople Berry... If you get statused, you could just Heal Bell it away. But again, whatever works for you.

It's mainly for sleeper leads like Ninetails and Persian, just to make sure i get SR up, i'm down for changing it though i could go either way. Anything else?

You have Body Slam, Toxic, Thunder Wave, Yawn, and Sleep Powder. Yawn combined with Sleep Powder is redundant (Sleep Clause means you can only really use one of those). Body Slam and Thunder Wave will be getting in the way of your Toxic.

Lose Yawn on Blastoise for something useful. Roar seems like a good choice.

Personally, I would drop Thunder Wave on Hypno. None of your team really benefits from it compared to having them hit with Toxic. If you decide to add Toxic over Thunder Wave on Hypno (your other options would be something like Protect or Snatch), I would also consider losing Seismic Toss for Psychic. Psychic will stop any Poison Pokemon (other than Drapion) dead in their tracks. As a negative, however, you lose a bit of coverage against Steelix.

The way I see it, though, Steelix either will have Rest, in which case you'll never kill it, or it won't have Rest, in which case you'll wear it down regardless.

Psychic will also help you out some more against that Hitmonlee you are concerned about.

The real blasphemy here is a stall team without Spikes!

Alright, thanks a lot obi!

I changed Thunder Wave to Psychic on Hypno, but instead of Roar on Blastoise i added rest, because Miltank and Heal Bell the status away.

Also added Leftovers to Miltank.

WishHypno is banned. You may want to change it. To something like Weezing.

Hypno fuctions entirely different than Weezing, I don't see how Weezing could be a good Hypno replacement. On the Smogon Server though event moves are allowed and hence Wish Hypno is not banned.

I don't like a Stall team that doesn't try to take advantage of its lead. Miltank really makes a horrible lead, it is easily taken care of by the top 10 leads of July. However, I do not recommend taking out Miltank as it helps the team so much with Heal Bell and gives Stealth Rock and brings a Fire/Ice resist to the table.

Instead I would like to move it from the lead position and in its place put this:

Nidoqueen @ Leftovers
Impish Nature
EV's: 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 Atk
Ability: Poison Point

Toxic Spikes
Earthquake
Rest
Sleep Talk

Now some would say that this is a horrible lead, but let's take a look at the top 10 leads for UU in July.

1. Persian: Takes laughable damage from Fake Out, and absorbs sleep from Hypnosis. Advantage: Nidoqueen
2. Hitmontop: The most likely set is the Life Orb Technician set which this set walls completely. Use this for a free layer of Toxic Spikes! Advantage: Nidoqueen
3. Primeape: Like Hitmontop it is fairly walled as most Primapes only carry Ice Punch for coverage against ground types. You can either choose to destroy it with Earthquake or set up some Toxic Spikes. Advantage: Nidoqueen
4. Electrode: Immune to its main STAB attack, and nice Special Defense to take those sorry HP Ice attacks. Fire off an Earthquake for a quick OHKO or predict the switch and get a layer of T-Spikes. Advantage: Nidoqueen
5. Swellow: Alright, one of your problem Pokemon. Well unfortunately, Nidoqueen is 2HKO'd by guts Facade... but atleast you can use its Protect turn to set up one layer of spikes! Advantage: Swellow
6. Froslass: The usual leading Froslass aims to get Spikes up rather than hit with powerful moves. However, Ice Beam will still 2HKO and you really don't want to let Nidoqueen take this hit. Unfortunately, Advantage: Froslass
7. Clefable: You can't do much to it physically, but it can't really do anything to you either. This is basically a match up where both of you will get whatever you want set-up wise. Advantage: Neutral
8. Scyther: If it's not the Swords Dance set then you have the advantage in that you will be able to set up full Tspikes and easily rest off the damage. If it is the SD set then you will have to get out of there because you can't stop it from setting up. Advantage: Neutral
9. Ninetails: Soaks up sleep, and can shrug off unboosted hits with its respectable Special Defense. Hits back with STAB Earthquake. Advantage: Nidoqueen.
10. Rapidash: See: Ninetails, only even better because Rapidash is physically offensive rather than special! Advantage: Nidoqueen

So Nidoqueen can either set up with impunity or threaten 8/10 of the leads of UU. Not bad for a team that should attempt to take advantage of every turn.

Now who to replace? I know you like your Flareon, but it really is the dead weight of this team. Fire/Ice resists are already taken care of from Miltank and Blastoise who counter what Flareon counters already. I just don't see how it's "vital" to the team as you suggest.

------

I also don't really see what Venusaur is doing other than just being annoying... it doesn't really cover anything that the rest of the team doens't already handle. Leafeon is one thing that I can see that it does. I think this slot could be better suited with, and please don't kill me when I say this, but Steelix. I really think that you should reconsider your vandetta against it because you're really sacrificing competetive viability just so that you can say you don't use it...Not to say that all stall teams need Steelix, but with your team it's almost a perfect fit over Venusaur. Personally I'd rather win then lose but be able to say I didn't use Steelix.

Steelix @ Leftovers
Impish Nature
EV's: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 SpD

Stone Edge
Earthquake
Roar
Toxic

This takes care of your need for a Phazer, as well as takes your Swellow weakness and throws it out the window. He helps with also being a secondary way to inflict toxic against pesky levitators and flyers.

------

Please don't throw the idea away just because it's a Steelix, as it REALLY helps the team. If you're willing to throw away competetive viability though, feel free to reject my advice.

Lonelyness, let me just start by saying that i appreciate your advice and thank you for looking at my team.

Nidoqueen was actually one of my first choices for this team, but I decided against her because IMO Toxic Spikes is useless in UU. Lets look at the top 35 pokemon in UU in July. Well see which ones are unaffected/absorb it. 14 out of 35, and 6 in the top 10 alone.

1.Steelix
2.Claydol
3.Rotom
4.Hitmontop
5.Clefable
6.Swellow
7.Ninetails
8.Hitmonlee
9.Toxicroak
10.Leafeon
11.Froslass
12.Altaria
13.Hypno
14.Blastoise
15.Persian
16.Poliwrath
17.Scyther
18.Poliwrath
19.Lanturn
20.Meganium
21.Drapion
22.Nidoking
23.Absol
24.Drifblim
25.Primeape
26.Probopass
27.Kabutops
28.Venomoth
29.Lapras
30.Sharpedo
31.Manectric
32.Glaceon
33.Gastrodon
34.Kangaskhan
35.Nidoqueen

On top of that, others like Hitmonlee/Glaceon are commonly choiced and wont be staying in for more then a few turns, and others like Blastoise and Poliwrath commonly carry rest which also hinders it. It just doesn't seem worth the effort and those 2 turns for something so easily dealth with. And some of the pokemon that it can be useful on are taken care of anyway. If i were to use Nidoqueen however i'd go for a defensive set that DIDN'T utilize Toxic Spikes, and it's going through my mind of maybe fitting her on somewhere. I just dont see how Flareon is useless, Ninetails can easily walk over my Blastoise with a plotted Energy Ball, so will a Manetric with Thunderbolt. Flareon is a dependable pokemon for the fact that it can stop a large ammount of special attackers, and fits well with Blastoise/Venusaur. It also spreads Toxic and gives more wish support. I dont see how its role on this team is considered dead weight, and people in battle have even acknowledged how much they understimate Flareon-It's THAT effective.

On Steelix, i'm against it. Not just because it's standard. I'd prefer my Venusare over A Steelix anyday. Venusaur isn't just annoying, but it can put a pokemon to sleep and start leeching it's health while battering them with attacks. But one vital part about that is the switching. Everytime they switch they take damage from SR and that means Toxicroak has an easier time sweeping. Venusuar also doesn't bend over backwards to any special attack even with no investment.

Even if Steelix did fit my team perfectly, (i fail to see how it would with adding another fighting weak with Miltank, and a ground weak with Flareon) I wouldn't use it because it's a completely dull and annoying pokemon. Sure, i'm playing with my emotions here rather then my head, but i'll sacrifice competitive viability just to keep Steelix out of this team.

I do see my need of a phazer, and am switching Rest to Roar on my Blastoise.

And i don't really see how Miltank is a terrible lead, it has actually been decent, not anything spectacular, but it gets the job done.
