Blast from the Past! And every other era for that matter.

This is my third RMT on Smogon, what makes this one different is that I recently got my hands on Shoddy Battle, so I don't need to use what's given to me and only after long hours of training. I was fooling around with weird teams when I thought: "Hey, let's try something new! Like...Dual Screens!" I was also playing Chrono Trigger recently, so that's how I thought up the concept for my Chrono Trigger themed team.

The Defensive Core

uxie.png

Lucca@Light Clay
Impish
252HP/6SpD/252Def
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Stealth Rock
-U-turn

Lucca's the one who gets it everything started. Ironically (*spoilers*) Lucca's teleporter was the whole reason that the time-traveling adventure got started! (*/spoiler*). Dual Screens goes great with my team. Especially considering they all have decent defences and/or resistances, now they all have above average defences. It gives Breloom more defence to continue being a pain in the ass, and it lets Raikou and Kingdra take multiple hits to set-up and sweep. Also a "Dual Screens" team would be pretty stupid without dual screens. Stealth Rock is always welcome, and U-turn is there to scout the enemy and is crucial to beating some leads, like Azelf and Aerodactyl. And it actually does decent damage to stuff that's weak to bug. I chose Uxie over other DS leads because it has the bulk that Bronzong does, but then can come back and set them up repeatedly if needed; unlike Azelf, who explodes on turn four.

Ayla@Toxic Orb
Adamant
252Atk/40HP/216Spe
-Spore
-Focus Punch
-Seed Bomb
-Mach Punch

Standard Breloom is still deadly and annoying any way you look at it. Hits everything that isn't named Shedinja or Gliscor hard, just like Ayla. Not even the likes of Rotom-A or Latias can take many hits. She also takes status for the rest of the team, which they hate. Spore and Focus Punch are staples on almost any Breloom set, Seed Bomb was chosen over Stone Edge for STAB attack and more accuracy, it hits stuff like Metagross (on the switch because I'm not staying in in most cases) and Suicune harder. I chose Mach Punch over Substitute because alothough Substitute helps prediction, Mach Punch lets me take out Scarf Tyranitar and revenge kill low-health stuff. This is crucial because it can outspeed everything without a boost (except maybe Raikou, but he can't really do much back)and hit hard (or OHKO without screens) on everything except Breloom and Kingdra. But Kingdra can't OHKO back without a DD and I don't think can OHKO, either, and Breloom's Focus Punch needs a miss to work unless nothing else has is asleep. Also, can anyone else picture Ayla wearing a mushroom on her head? XD

Marle@Leftovers
Bold
32Spe/228Def/248HP
-Roar
-Discharge
-Roost
-Toxic

Originally, I had Rotom-C here, but It had the exact same coverage as Raikou, but with Will-o-Wisp and more bulk. I also noticed a weakness to certain set-up sweepers-namely SubCMRaichi. So I needed Roar to phaze them away. I noticed around the same time that other than Lefties/Poison Heal, no-one on my team had any form of recovery. Zapdos fit the bill, so she/it was the replacement. A form of recovery in Roost, Roar to deal with the likes of SubCMRaichi, and Toxic to deal with bulky walls that mean to lessen the amout of turns I abuse screens. (although Toxic doesn't really take them out, just force a switch). Discharge is in place over Thunderbolt because of that nifty 20% paralysis on stuff I can't poison or don't need to. Marle also acts as a defensive pivot on my team. It comes in on stuff like Scizor and proceeds to force it out, via walling, Roaring, or Toxic, or even just killing it. Like Breloom and Uxie, Gliscor with Taunt is a threat to Zapdos. Zapdos is the only one that doesn't share a trait with whom it's named after.

The Offensive Core

kingdra.png

Frog@Life Orb
Adamant
252Atk/232Spe/24SpA
-Draco Meteor
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Waterfall

Frog is amazing. And amazingly unrated, just like Frog. The point of this set is simple, set up and sweep. After one DD, it can OHKO virtually everything. The only things that stand in it's way are Skarmory, Dusknoir, and other resisting pokes and specially bulky things with Will-o-Wisp. Unfortunately, Life Orb among other attacks wear Frog down quickly, even behind screens, so he needs to get his kills fast. He can easily come in on Heatran and Infernape and set up. Same goes for Tyranitar, but it's trickier. I feel that I should right more here, but I can't think of anything at the moment.

raikou.png

Magus@Life Orb
Timid
252Spe/252SpA/4HP
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball
-Hidden Power Water
-Calm Mind

Raikou is a beast. The phrase "A winner is you!" comes to mind whenever he comes out, unrevealed, late game for a sweep. He uses special attacks, just like Magus uses magic. Thunderbolt and Calm Mind are there to stay, Shadow Ball get Rotom, Latias, Gengar and the like. And HP Water is there for two main reasons: Gliscor, and Mamoswine. My team doesn't like the near-flawless coverage and brute force of Mamoswine, nor does it appreciate Gilsocr and it's uncanny ability to counter everyone but Raikou. It doesn't serve much purpose outside of that, but it does accomplish the role. And it's not like Raikou need it to take the rest of most teams anyway.

metagross.png

Robo@Lum Berry
Adamant
112HP/252Atk/132Spe/12Def
-Agility
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Explosion

Metagross is my last sweeper. It can come in on anything that doesn't hit for SE damage, like Scizor's Bullet Punch, or Surf. After an Agility, it outspeeds everything that isn't scarfed or is really, really fast. And then I can let Metagross's top notch attack stat wreck havoc on anything besides Gliscor or Celebi. Lum Berry sometimes gets me a free Agility or attack. Not to mention that it can take any hit after Light Screen. And the name Robo should speak for itself. Metallic, awesome, and powerful--that's Robo for you.

And that's it. I didn't it Crono into the team, but since he can't talk I didn't know if he wanted to or not. :P Constructive criticism is welcome. (If it wasn't then I wouldn't have spent half my day typing this.)

Great

Great team, I love seeing Raikou, one turn set-up is devastating in today's metagame. On that, i'd suggest one potential change to your offensive core, the addition of Agilty-three attack Empoleon. Probably in the place of Meta, but possibly in the place of Breloom ( I strongly suggest meta).

I suggest this because you already have Blissey well under control, with one of the strongest focus punches in the game and an excellent mixed sweeper, and because of the afore statred weakness to Gliscor and mamo. Mainy though, this ofensive synergy goes a long way towards breaking down both the many physical walls (easy part) Kingdra could potentially have problems with, and the comparatively few dedicated Special walls (a little harder) which you already have covered. With dual screens, or even ithout them, Empoleon can be quite bulky (not nearly as Bulky as Gross though) and sets up on many of the same things. Really, the best reasons for this would be the improved offensive synergy, the ability to use Breloom as a something Sub-er, as he is meant to be used, and the very decreased weakness to Gliscor and Mamo.

If you do change this, I would change Breloom to the sub-puncher set ( i'm not listing sets, because i'm assuming you've been here long enough to find those). besides that I can't think of anything else, and what i've said is really just preference anyways. Good luck!

24 hour bump

Also, I think that Empoleon's coverage is slightly redundant, and I lose if I lose Breloom, then the only hope I have of beating Blissey is to get a DD and Outrage with Kingdra. But I can't switch it in directly because of the risk of status.

EDIT: Thanks for the rate, ginganinja. (Ironically, I have two friends who are ginger that call themselves the Ginger Ninjas.) I'll test out Skarmory.

just a quick rate b4 I go to university.I do think Skarmory can do the Job of your Zapdos better. It can heal, phaze and it can set up Spikes which can help Raikou and Meta sweep better.
