I am trying to use a BO team (I hate HO btw) that makes extensive use of U-turn. Although sometimes I get sporadic victories against unprepared teams, on average, I lose more than win. I still don't know if it is my fault as an inexperienced player or if the team has a lot of drawbacks that I didn't identify. Well, without further ado, here is the team!

:Garchomp: @ Leftovers or Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge or Flamethrower
- Toxic or Flamethrower

Garchomp is a very cool leader with a few weaknesses and sets the Stealth Rock early in the game to help its teammates. Earthquake is the only STAB move here that although rarely applied, can 2HKO :Toxapex:. Stone Edge is useful against potential defogger birds (e.g., :Zapdos:). In the last spot Toxic seems to be the best one to cripple potential switch-ins. However, Flamethrower is another option to at least try to touch :Ferrothorn: and :Corviknight:. I think Flamethrower is a necessary move because all team but :blacephalon: is focused on physical attacks. In essence, this Garchomp is not an offensive variant, but a tool to set and keep the Stealth Rock on the field.

:Mandibuzz: @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 92 Def / 152 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Defog
- U-turn

Being the first bird on this list, Mandibuzz is my defogger and an answer to :Dragapult:. The set is straightforward, everyone uses basically this same set. Maybe the only difference is that I prefer U-turn instead of Knock off because this team needs to make progress otherwise the strategy fails (other teammates are momentum sink, as :scizor: below). Foul Play is used against opposing pokemon based on Attack stat. Roost is needed to keep it healthy to Defog and tank :Dragaulpt: again and again throughout the match.

:Scizor: @ Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost

Scizor is amazing right now. It can handle :Weavile:, :Rillaboom:, and U-turn away from Fire-types. Rather than full investment in special defence, a mixed defence is quite good. Swords Dance allows Scizor to be a bit scary, increasing the damage of a predicted U-turn. Bullet Punch is always useful against weakened opponents. Finally, Roost allows Scizor to repeatedly check its victims.

:Blacephalon: @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Heat Wave
- Psychic
- Trick

Blacephalon is the special wallbreaker and probably the second-best Fire-type in the tier after :Volcarona:. Shadow Ball is probably the best move to use in general. I prefer Heat Wave instead of Overheat, Fire Blast and Flamethrower for the lack of detrimental effects, higher accuracy, and higher power, respectively. Psychic can 2HKO :Toxapex: and Trick is useful against :Blissey:. This is the only pokemon that focuses on special attacks in the team, so it's intended to check physical walls such as :Ferrothorn:, :Corviknight:, and :Skarmory:.

:Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- Aqua Jet
- U-turn

Urshifu is a powerful offensive pivot, it's amazing. One of its main functions is to soft check :Melmetal:, which otherwise can be a pain. Surging Strikes probably kills 1/3 of the meta. Close Combat is the second STAB move that threatens some defensive pokemon. The next two moves make Urshifu act similarly to :Scizor:. Aqua Jet allows Urshifu to act as a Revenge Killer. U-turn deals chip damage throughout the entire match.

:Zapdos-Galar: @ Choice Band
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Stomping Tantrum

Now the second bird. Zapdos-G is the physical wallbreaker. The duo Close Combat + Brave Bird are insanely strong. There are just a few pokemon that can switch-in against Zapdos-G. The few that can do this will receive a U-turn right in the face. Stomping Tantrum is good against basically Rock-types. Maybe its role is overlapping a bit with :Urshifu:, and there are three pokemon using Choice items. So if you have suggestions for other items/sets please tell me.

I don't know what to do against Electric-types, especially :tapu-koko:. But as I previously mentioned, the team as a whole is full of issues that I couldn't identify. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you in advance :psysly:

Hello Tungdil, I’m here to rate your team and suggest some changes.

I like your offensive core, as Blacephalon :blacephalon: is a really good breaker and Urshifu-R :Urshifu-rapid-strike: + Zapdos Galar :zapdos-galar: can overwhelm their shared checks rather easily. I think however that this core is too slow, and you want to have one of these three Pokemon equipped with a Choice Scarf. However, I’m not a huge fan of your defensive core. Garchomp :garchomp: is hard to justify as a defensive Rocks setter over Landorus-T and Mandibuzz :mandibuzz: is not great in this metagame as its defensive utility is limited and it loses to a lot of the Pokemon it is supposed to check once its Boots are knocked. Lastly, Scizor :scizor: has a great defensive role in the current metagame and could work in a defensive core. However, in this state your defensive core lacks an import Water resistance and I think it can be reworked to make the team a bit more efficient. Thus, I will mainly focus my suggestions on the defensive backbone of the team while trying to add some Speed here. Let’s dive into the suggestions!

Major changes:

:garchomp: -> :landorus-therian:: Lando and Garchomp can both act as a defensive Ground type and Stealth Rock setter. I like Landorus more as being able to pivot with your Rock setter when you have three huge offensive threats in always nice and Intimidate makes it a bit more efficient at dealing with some physical threats. Being able to Knock Off things is also a nice addition. I would use a specially defensive Landorus here, so that you will have something able to come on Dragapult, Heatran (as I removed Garchomp and plan to remove Mandibuzz) but which will also help a lot against Tapu Koko as you seem to have troubles dealing with this Pokemon. Here is the set (Speed IVs help to have a slow U-turn):

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
IVs: 23 Spe
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock

:mandibuzz: -> :corviknight:: Mandibuzz has fall down in usage as it struggles to check some nasty offensive threats like Weavile and is rather easy to take down if its boots get Knocked. Moreover, it can’t Defog freely on Landorus-T who often carries Knock Off or Toxic. I think that, replacing it by a mixed Def Corviknight could in a way compress both Mandibuzz and Scizor roles in one slot, so that you can run a Water resistance in the last one. Corviknight is still able to pivot into one of your breakers and can Defog more efficiently. Here is the set I would use with some SpD to help against Tapu Lele most notably:
corviknight.gif

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Impish Nature
- Body Press
- U-turn
- Defog
- Roost

:scizor: -> :tapu fini:: Tapu Fini is another Weavile Check that also deal with Urshifu-R. Removing Scizor may make this defensive core weaker to Specs Kyurem, but it’s not a common threats and all your offensive Pokemon can threaten it. Here, I would use a Trapping set so that you can bait in Toxapex and eliminate it to open a path for Urshifu-R but also Blacephalon and Zapdos-G who can be annoyed by Toxapex. You should still keep a lot of Def investment to remain a good Urshifu-R and Weavile check. Here is the set:

tapufini.gif

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpD
Calm Nature
- Whirlpool
- Moonblast
- Nature's Madness
- Taunt

Minor changes:

:blacephalon:: First change I would make is to use a Choice Scarf instead of a Choice Specs. An alternative would be to keep the Specs on Blacephalon and use a Choice Scarf on Zapdos-Galar, but you really need to have one of your three offensive Pokemon Scarf if you want to be able to revenge kill some big threats that can’t be dealt with defensively. As for the moveset, I don’t think Heat Wave is worth it over Flamethrower as 5 more base power can’t justify a drop of 10% in accuracy, especially knowing that Blacephalon bulk is paper thin, and one miss can cost you a lot. I also don’t like Psychic (on Specs but even more on a Scarf) and Overheat could help compensating the loss in power with a Choice Scarf (and Toxapex can be dealt with Tapu Fini that I added). Here is the set I would use:

blacephalon.gif

Blacephalon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Overheat

- Trick
