Bombirdier is one of the best pokemon in PU, due to having an extremely vast utility move pool, and access to the coveted Knock Off. Bombirdier typically runs Heavy-Duty Boots since it helps it to reliably switch in, considering it is pivoting often with either U-turn or Parting Shot; these moves help to increase Bombirdier’s longevity, which allows it to switch in more easily and use Knock Off more frequently. U-turn helps Bombirdier’s teammates pick off threats such as Rhydon and Hisuian Qwilfish, since Knock Off has removed their Eviolite. On the other hand, Parting Shot is often more helpful against offensive threats, and can assist in pivoting walls and speed control pokemon in. Roost is nice for Bombirdier as reliable recovery helps mitigate the damage taken from threatening moves such as Volt Switch from Rotom-Heat, and Flip Turn from Bruxish.

Defensive Bombirdier sets enjoy being on bulkier archetypes such as balance and bulky offense. Bombirdier likes to be partnered with pokemon that benefit off the opponent having their item removed, and pokemon that need to be positioned well, some such pokemon are: Oricorio and Delphox. Bombirdier also benefits from being an a status-spam team, as it can often stall well versus pokemon which have been afflicted by status effects. Bombirdier runs 40 EVs in Speed in order to outspeed uninvested Rotom-Heat, and puts the remaining EVs into HP and Special Defense in order to be as bulky as possible. Bombirdier also runs Tera Steel to increase its stalling potential and to mitigate its weaknesses to Rock- and Steel- Types.
