[OVERVIEW]
Dragon
========
Noivern is heavily outclassed both offensively and defensively by fellow Dragon-types like Latios and Archaludon, which can put far more pressure on opposing teams. However, Noivern comes packing with a useful Flying typing and more importantly, it provides a crucial Speed tier, outspeeding targets like Iron Valiant, which Latios cannot, along with being one of the only answers to entry hazards Dragon teams have.
[SET]
Noivern @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Name: Utility (Dragon)
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe or 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- U-turn / Flamethrower / Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Roost
[SET COMMENTS]
Noivern finds a niche on Dragon teams thanks to its blazing Speed stat, allowing it to blitz past threats such as Iron Valiant and non-Choice Scarf Greninja, along with having access to Defog to provide a form of entry hazard removal. Hurricane allows it to check Fighting-types like Iron Valiant, Sneasler, and Gallade with ease. U-turn provides fast pivoting, allowing safe entry for setup sweepers. Alternatively, Flamethrower can be used to allow Noivern to threaten Steel- and Ice-types like Gholdengo, Skarmory, and Froslass, while Draco Meteor provides another strong offensive tool, which can prove useful in the mirror matchup. A defensive EV spread is preferred, allowing Noivern to stick around reliably throughout a game, as it can take two Dark Pulses from Hydreigon and a Power Gem from Glimmora. Alternatively, it can run an offensive spread to assuredly OHKO targets like Latios and the Ogerpon formes.
Archaludon can take on powerful physical Ice- and Rock-type attackers such as Weavile, Cloyster, Kleavor, and Iron Boulder and can respond with Flash Cannon. Archaludon can also support Noivern by using Thunder Wave to allow Noivern to outspeed targets like Meowscarada and Zamazenta. Hisuian Goodra, meanwhile, can take on special Dragon- and Fairy-types like Hex Dragapult, Kyurem, Flutter Mane, and Primarina. Hisuian Goodra can also switch into special Ice-type attacks from foes like Greninja and Kyurem, which Noivern is highly susceptible to. Both Archaludon and Hisuian Goodra appreciate Noivern's hazard removal, allowing them to get the most out of their Leftovers and giving them a chance to come in repeatedly. Dragapult provides an incredible Speed tier, (ac) being able to handle threats such as Flutter Mane and Latios. Choice Specs Latios and Kyurem can deal with foes attempting to make use of Noivern's passivity like Gliscor and Raging Bolt while also being extremely significant in the mirror matchup, allowing Noivern to forego Draco Meteor. Gouging Fire appreciates Noivern providing a Ground immunity and hazard removal, in case its Heavy Duty-boots have been removed and in return, (ac) Gouging Fire can handle Steel-types like Gholdengo, Hisuian Goodra, and Corviknight. Gouging Fire also benefits from Noivern's U-turn, which allows it safe entry and gives it a chance to set up and sweep. Garchomp provides an Electric immunity and a Rock resistance, which makes it capable of taking on threats like Regieleki, Hisuian Arcanine, and Iron Boulder.
