Boring Rain Stall

I like stall teams. The idea of this team is to bore my opponent into submission with my common, infuriating and over the top stall tactics. This team has multiple counters To most common threats, and has 3 steel type pokemon to deal with common outrage sweeping strategies. Permanent rain makes getting around my defensive steels very problematic.

186.png
Politoed (CommonFrog) @ Choice scarf
Ability: Drizzle (duh)
Modest
Evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Hydro pump
Scald
Hidden power (grass)
Ice Beam

Chances are, that if you are using a rain team, then you are using Politoed. I choose the scarf variant because it allows him to have a chance to clean up the opponents team late game, and outspeeds non-scarfed pokemon right up to the genies speed tier. I choose modest over timid because the only benefit i can see from timid is the ability to outspeed Starmie.

227.png
Skarmory (BoringBird) @ Shed shell
Ability: Sturdy
Impish
Evs: 252 Hp / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Brave bird
Whirlwind
Spikes
Roost

Chances are, if you are playing stall, you are playing this guy. Great defenses and the ability to counter almost every physical threat in the game make Skarmory a staple on stall teams. I use Skarm as my teams stealth rocker. I don't like people pulling magnezone capers on me.

376.png
Metagross (Annoyer) @ Choice band
Ability: Clear body
Adamant
Evs: 248 Hp / 196 Att / 64 SpD
Meteor mash
Hammer arm
Pursuit
Bullet punch

This was a CB Scizor, but i changed to Metagross because of all of the Tornadus' running around. With the given Evs, Metagross can never be 2HKO'd by Tornadus's Hurricane, even with Stealth rock up, and Metagross' Bullet punch will always 2HKO Tornadus with Stealth rock up. Now that Excadrill is uber, i expect rain and Tornadus use to rise alot.
Metagross also deals with Latios/Latias which are also very popular.
121.png
Starmie (UGuessedIt) @ Leftovers
Ability : Natural cure
Timid
Evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Surf
Ice beam
Thunder
Rapid spin

Standard Starmie, nothing suprising here. Covers all of Ferrothorns weaknesses. so they work together well, and nothing can really stop Starmie from rapid spinning, as it can dish out so much damage, especially in the rain. With its high speed and good coverage, Starmie can threaten a late game sweep.

612.png
Ferrorthorn (NoSuprises) @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron barbs
Relaxed
Evs: 252 Hp / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Ivs: 0 Spe
Power whip
Protect
Stealth rock
Leech seed

Ferrothorn completes the often-seen and done-to-death 5th Gen defensive core of Jellicent/Ferrothorn. How original. Gyro ball is to give me a way to deal with the Latios/Latias/Gengar and to stop it from being set-up-bait for Terakion which can all be problematic for this team. Like Skarmory and Metagross, Ferrothorn likes the rain.

381.png
Latios (DealWithIt) @ Choice specs
Ability: Levitate
Timid
Evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4Hp
Draco meteor
Surf
Hidden power (Fight)
Trick

I replaced Chansey with Latios. I lose wish, but I feel that Latios patches up some holes in my team. The main reason I chose Latios over other pokemon is that it is a power-house that is lucky to not be banished to ubers. It resists fighting (which is always good in the current meta), and has 110 base speed which sits above Virizion and Terakion.
It can deal with Infernape and can hit Conkeldurr hard with powered up Draco meteors. I choose the specs variant with Trick because this team finds Blissey/Chansey annoying.
I know Hidden power (Fighting) may seem like a strange choice, but it is the best option to hit Tyranitar (Hidden power 280 Bp vs Ttar, Surf 190 Bp vs Ttar) and deals more damage to Ferrothorn than Draco meteor.

Hey dude, this is a pretty solid team you have here, it still has quite a few weaknesses, so lets try to fix them up.

Going down the list, the first I see is a Substitute version Calm Mind Jirachi weakness, which isn't common, so don't sweat. Conkeldurr is next, while Skamory "counters" it, its still going to take massive damage, and after 2 or 3 times of using your Skamory to wall Conk, it going down and it will sweep your entire team. Next is Substitute Gyarados, again rather uncommon so don't worry. While Infernape doesn't sweep this team, it can easily punch holes everywhere for something else to sweep with, that is a problem. Magnezone support can be an amazing pain for this team to deal with, something you should look out for. Much like Conkeldurr, Toxicroak can be a real problem for this team, especially since this is a rain stall team. And finally calm mind Virizion outright sweeps this team.

First thing I would suggest is you switch Politoed for a more bulky specially defensive set which will give it more utility to win the weather war, also if you use this, it basically takes Metagross's place, in dealing with Reunicles and Latias, allowing for another pokemon.

Politoed (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 196 SDef / 60 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Perish Song
- Toxic
- Protect

In Metagross's place, I would suggest something to fix most of those problems, a bulky Gyarados would fix that best I think. It doesn't solve some rather obscure threats like Sub-Calm mind Jirachi, but then again its rather rare.

Cherry (Gyarados) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 160 HP / 172 Def / 176 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Taunt

Now for some nitpicks:

-Ok, you will see literally see Wob once in every 100 battles, and most of the time its used by some noob who doesn't know how to use it. So out speeding it with Skarmory isn't important at all really, so I suggest you give it a full out defensive spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD, it will really help, trust me on this one.

-Starmie doesn't like taking 10% health just to spin, so I suggest you run leftovers over life orb here. The extra power from life orb doesn't really matter since your using a rain team here man, also while you are at it, switch thunderbolt to thunder for more power since your already in the rain.

-Really your only way to deal with Gyarados is Ferrothorn, in which case your really going to want a little bit of extra recovery, so I suggest you run protect over gyro ball, since gyro ball isn't going much for this team anyway.

-Finally Chansey would be better off this the following ev spread: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD and give it a Calm nature. That spread will give you pretty good physical bulk which is all it really needs, dumping the rest into special defense give Chansey much more special bulk then your current spread, which Chansey needs are your main special wall. Also, I suggest you use protect over softboiled, softboiled is generally useless, and the stalling and scouting ability you get from protect is more then worth the trade.

-This is just a matter of preference, but perhaps you should consider switching stealth rocks / spikes on Skamory and Ferrothorn, since generally Skarmory can set up spikes better, and Ferrothorn sets up rocks better, but if it works as is, don't bother.

Good luck.

Hey there :]
One thing I noticed was you have a rain team and you still use tbolt? I'd switch Thunderbolt to Thunder on Starmie for dat powah :]
Also I'd probably take wynawts advice with the Specially Bulky Toed
And since you have 2 pokes setting up spikes I'd switch either Ferro or Skarm for Tentacruel
Tentacruel@BlackSludge
Trait:Rain Dish
Evs: 252 HP/ 182 def/ 80 Spdef
Calm
-Toxic Spikes
-Scald
-Rapid Spin
-Protect
So now you have Tspikes thrown in for a better stall take to the game
Hope I helped :]

Hi, you have a very solid rain stall team. First of all, swap Spikes and Stealth Rock on Skarmory and Ferrothorn. Ferrothorn actually has offensive potential and can be useful even after it gets up SR, Power Whip and Gyro Ball hit a number of threats such as Starmie and Latios hard. Skarmory on the other hand has piss poor fighting capabilities. It should just be focusing on Spikesstacking and phazing, Brave Bird should rarely ever see usage, like maybe once every 2/3 matches.

Volcorona is an absolute nightmare for this team, Substitute and Chestorest variants especially. The only poke who can afford to take any hits from it is Chansey, who can still be beaten down by +6 Bug Buzz, which Volcorona can easily achieve. Volcorona couldn't give two shits about being in the rain, since it's still OHKOing Skarm and 2HKOing Ferro regardless, and can just Bug Buzz everyone else. One pokemon who can help you is Choice Band Dragonite, who can OHKO with Waterfall, take out Chlorophyll sweepers with Extremespeed and in general wreak havoc. While I love the idea of Choice Band Metagross, it is unfortunately the best candidate to replace. While the threat of CB Meteor Mash forces a ton of switches to rack up hazards damage, Ferrothorn and Chansey deal with the Latii twins just fine, Dragonite can take down Reuniclus with Outrage, and Skarm already does the job of taking Outrages. Dragonite can force switches just as well with the threat of CB Outrage. Multi Scale is kept in tact by Wish/ spin support.

Dragonite @ Choice Band
Multi-Scale
Adamant
252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 Hp
- Outrage
- Waterfall
- Extremespeed
- Dragon Claw

Thunder over Thunderbolt on Starmie for that extra rain abuse.

GL

Life Orb Starmie will get rocked by Ferro, who can easily come in as it tries to Rapid Spin. If Ferrothorn has Rocky Helmet, that's 35% you lose right there, and it's easy for him to get a layer of spikes or SR out as you are forced to switch out. I would switch Metagross for a Magnezone, mainly to get rid of opposing set up Pokes and such. You have Chansey to deal with Tornadus, so you're not losing too much there. I would also throw Leftovers and Recover on Starmie (probably removing Ice Beam, since a Dual STAB Surf will do more than a Super effective Ice Beam, but keep Ice Beam if you're afraid of the Dragons).

You could even throw in Tentacruel instead of Starmie in order to get some Toxic Spikes up, since without Metagross Bliss or Chansey could get annoying

Hope this helps!
