Break Through

Break Through
(My first 5th gen team)

Hi Smogon! I've been a lurker here since 4th gen, looking at teams here in the RMT section and laughing to the comics posted at Firebot. After a long hiatus, I came back to a metagame riddled with weather. At first I was baffled and at a loss on how to re-immerse myself in such an unfamiliar environment. I started tinkering with different weather starters such as Politoed, Ninetales and Tyranitar. I eventually settled with Tyranitar seeing as the residual damage of sandstorm looks promising. I never really thought of the team-building process that much. I just chucked in Pokemons that seem to to cover each other's weaknesses and I ended up with this team. The team itself did fairly well, I think. I reached a peak of 1461 on the Smogon server in PO, never attaining that level again ever since. Now I'm sitting at 1412 as I am typing this RMT. While this team did okay, I feel that it could still improve. Stall gives me the most trouble, especially when all their hazards are down. Now without further ado, my first 5th gen team: Break Through!

Tyranitar @ Babiri Berry
Sand Stream
Careful (+SpD, -SpA)

252 HP/ 208 Atk / 48 Spe
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail
- Crunch
- Stealth Rock

Meet my sandstorm dinosaur... Thingy. The EV's look a bit off. Hell, maybe they are. I run 48 Spe to outspeed the omnipresent CB Scizors who are attempting to U-Turn. The Babiri Berry is there to help mitigate CBZor's Bullet Punch. Either way, I roast it with Fire Blast. Even without any SpA investment and a negative nature, It KOs Scizor with SR up. 252 HP EVs to bolster my bulk further and I dumped the rest to Atk to give Crunch and Dragon Tail some ooomph to it. I'm not good with making my own EV spreads, and I just made this EV spread solely to bait Scizor, who gives this team some trouble. Stealth Rock is almost a must on most teams, Crunch for some STAB loving against common switch-ins such as Celebi and Dragon Tail is to give this team a way to phaze set-up sweepers.

Landorus @ Expert Belt
Sand Force
Naive (+Spe, -SpD)
252 Atk / 252 Spe/ 4 SpA
- U-Turn
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Hidden Power Ice

This was originally a Scarfed Landorus. I tried on Expert Belt on it because I wanted to try it out. :toast: I never changed it again since. This thing attracts Gliscors like crazy after I use EQ. I'll EQ again as they protect to give them a false sense of security, then bam. HP Ice. I lure Celebis the same way and U-Turn usually takes out a huge chunk of most Celebis HP. Aside from it's luring capabilities, Landorus basically wrecks things in the midgame with its STAB Sand Force-boosted EQ and SE and U-Turn is ever useful as a scouting move. Furthermore, it's lovely 101 Base Speed puts it above common Pokemon such as Volcarona, Salamence, Jirachi and Celebi. A fantastic Pokemon overall.

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Poison Heal
Careful (+SpD, -SpA)
236 HP / 208 SpD / 64 Spe
- Bulk Up
- Seed Bomb
- Drain Punch
- Spore

The cookie-cutter Breloom set, with it's 100% accurate sleep move and 12.5% recovery per turn. I usually send this guy out first against Landorus leads as this think takes HP Ice or U-Turn pretty well. It sends one of my opponent's Pokemon asleep with Spore, essentially turning it in to a 5v6 match for a while. On the onset of the game after I Spore something, I throw one of my two STAB moves or switch seeing as my attempt at setting-up will be foiled easily in the early game. Despite Breloom's utility and welcome Water-resistance, I've always felt that he was the weak link of my team. I don't know why. In the late game however, with his counters weakened sufficiently, Breloom usually carries me to victory. Furthermore, his Grass typing is ever welcome against all the Water moves aimed at Landorus and Tyranitar.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Serene Grace
Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
252 HP / 252 Spe / 4 SpA
- Calm Mind
- Water Pulse
- Thunderbolt
- Substitute

The only dragon resist in the team, I use my Jirachi as a pivot first, and a sweeper second. People who expect the physical variant of Jirachi as up for a nasty surprise as they send their physical walls in. With Substitute up, Jirachi can setup against many Pokemon such as Celebi w/o CM, Skarmory, Starmie, etc. Substitute also aids in preventing Jirachi from being afflicted with status conditions such as burns and paralysis. I run max HP for the bulk and for the 101 Subs. 252 Spe to, at worst, speed tie with other positive-natured Base 100s w/o Scarf. The only thing that walls this set completely is Gastrodon, which Breloom will have an easy time against. I run Water Pulse over Flash Cannon is for the confusion chance and to nail Landorus / Gliscor switch-ins.

Reuniclus @ Life Orb
Magic Guard
Quiet (+ SpA, -Spe)
192 HP / 252 SpA / 64 Def (0 Spe IVs)
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

My personal favorite in this team, TR Reuniclus blows holes through unprepared teams. After it uses Trick Room, I just fire away LO boosted moves. I chose Reuniclus mainly because my team needs a Pokemon that can hit hard and outspeed Scarfed threats without the tediousness of setting up. Besides from Blissey and Chansey, this Pokemon hits everything like a truck. It taking no damage from sandstorm, entry hazards and status further enhances its longevity. Reuniclus also pairs well with Tyranitar since they cover each other's weakness, bar Ground. Scizor would prove to be a menace with its priority move that hits like a goddamn truck and its U-Turn if I haven't set up TR yet. That gave birth to the Tar set above.

Latios @ Choice Scarf
Levitate
Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP
- Trick
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse

My revenge killer of choice. This is my to go to Pokemon against Dragonites, Salamences and Volcaronas who already have a boost under their belt. Even without the power that Choice Specs provide, it still hits hard with a Base 130 SpA. People also keep in their Scarf Landoruses in, expecting the common Specs variant. Draco Meteor is there for its immense power and hitting everything neutrally except Steels. Dragon Pulse is there is Latios is simply cleaning up and Surf is there for coverage. Trick is there for Blissey / Chansey, expecting a special move.

I am quite proud of this team, despite its shortcomings. I will retire it soon, as I would want to explore other playstyles. I would like to thank in advance for taking the time to read my RMT. I'd also like to apologize to the some of the people I haxxed to victory. It's not in my control if I hax people, but I'd like to apologize anyway. Some people might want to use this team. I really don't mind, haha. I left an importable below so you can use it or w/ever. Enjoy, and thank you again! And oh, please rate it. :toast:

It looks like your team have trouble against Mamoswine. I would suggest for you to try maybe Yache Berry on Landorus? Or you could try a Starmie over Reuniclus, and then make it your spinner. Pretty good team, i enjoyed it ^^

I have to agree, most any ice type can hit this team really hard. I would suggest replacing reuniclus with something such as a fire or water type.

something such as this would be good:

479-w.gif

Rotom-W
252 sp. att, 252 speed, timid, @choice scarf/choice specs
-volt switch
-hydro pump
-hp ice
-trick

the other option is to use something like this:
479-h.gif

Rotom-H
252 sp. att, 252 speed, timid, @choice scarf/choice specs
-volt switch
-overheat
-hp ice/grass
-trick

That should help you with your ice types problems.
