Breeeeloom! (RMT)

Now, my 3rd team rate. This is mostly an experiment to get better at team building, since I'm not that good at it yet. I tested this for a bit on Shoddy, it worked okay. It's basically a team that revolves around Breloom and covering it's different weak points.

Glance at the team:

Team Building Process

Obviously, it starts with Breloom.

My first concern was Breloom's less than impressive speed stat. After contemplating for a while, I decided my best bet would be to make a speed Baton Passer. I chose Zapdos for the job as he still has good offensive prowess to deal with annoying water types.

My next concern was to find a lead, preferrably with Stealth Rock. Entry Hazards can be very helpful in racking up damage and allow for Breloom to sweep a lot easier. I decided it needs to be fast as Stealth Rock is the most important thing for it to do so it can't get KO'ed in the first turn. I decided with Aerodactyl.

Next, I need to find a counter for Breloom's weaknesses. I decided to take Smogon's advice and went with Tyranitar. Tyranitar's moves can take on most of the threats to Breloom like Psychic, Fire, and Flying types.

My next concern was to find a Bulky Water that not everyone on earth already uses, and my decision was Slowbro. EDIT!: I decided Slowbro was not the best for this team. I decided to change Slowbro with Empoleon. While not technically a "Bulky Water", I find that Empoleon's 12 resistances can be a massive blessing to my team, especially on a defensive set which I am running. Combine that with the ability to also attack effectively and it's a great team addition.

For the last slot, I wanted either a Rapid Spinner or Spin Blocker, but I decided to go with a Spin Blocker since Breloom is fine with Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes. I decided with Rotom-H, since he has good defense, good power, and is probably one of the best Spin Blockers in the game.

Inside Look at the team!

142.png

Aerodactyl @ Focus Sash
Pressure
Jolly
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Stealth Rock
Taunt
Earthquake
Rock Slide

Standard lead Aerodactyl, we've all seen it before. Very useful in setting up Stealth Rock and will most likely suicide once I'm done with Stealth Rock and Taunt. Earthquake is for certain leads and Rock Slide is for STAB.

145.png

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Pressure
Timid
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 88 SpA / 36 Spe
Agility
Substitute
Baton Pass
Thunderbolt

Hmm.... low speed, what should I do? Oh that's right! Baton pass! Zapdos a great passer and one of the most easy to use. Simple, Agility, then Baton Pass into Breloom when the time is right. Easy boost for Breloom. Sub is to possibly set up easier, and replaced Roar when I added Empoleon. Thunderbolt for a great STAB move.

248.png

Tyranitar @ Life Orb
Sand Stream
Jolly
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Stone Edge
Crunch
Pursuit
Earthquake

Tyranitar is a very good friend for Breloom. His moveset and fantastic power is great for killing off pesky Fire, Psychic, and Flying types. His ability also allows the opposing team to easily wear out. Stone Edge is a great move for killing Flying Types, Earthquake for Fire, and Cruch is for Psychics. Pursuit is for hurting anything switching out.

398.png

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Calm
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 92 SpD / 4 Spe
Surf
Grass Knot
Ice Beam
Roar

Slowbro was not quite as useful as I'd hoped. So, I decided to replace him. Empoleon makes a great new addition to the team. As you can see, I run a more defensive set as opposed to Empoleon's signature Agility or Sub sets. This set hopes to take advantage of Empoleon's good defenses coupled with a resist to 12 types. The three attacking moves provide good coverage and Grass Knot is especially for Swampert. Roar can be used for phazing since I removed Roar on Zapdos.

499.png

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Levitate
Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Overheat
Will-O-Wisp

It was pretty hard to figure out which appliance to choose, but I chose Rotom-H (even if Rotom-F looks cooler to me). The heater posses very nice defense and good typing, along with a good set of moves. It is also a very reliable SpinBlocker and may be able to kill afterwards, especially the two most popular spinners, Starmie and Forretress, with Thunderbolt and Overheat. Shadow Ball is a reliable STAB move, and Will-O-Wisp is for annoying Physical Attackers.

286.png

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Poison Heal
Adamant
EVs: 124 HP / 252 Atk / 68 Def / 64 SDef
Swords Dance
Brick Break
Seed Bomb
Spore

The idea of this is simple. After a Speed Boost from Zapdos, I switch to Breloom. Breloom then Spores the opposition then Swords Dances as much as possible. If he switches out, then I was already sure to have a few Swords Dances in my pocket, so I proceed to sweep. Brick Break and Seed Bomb provide reliable coverage and STAB. Brick Break felt like the better choice instead of Mach Punch as priority was not necessary from Zapdos' speed boosts, and it can also break screens. Seed Bomb is an alternative STAB.

Well, now that you have seen my team, please give some comments or "constructive criticism".

TBH I don't really see the need in having one Pokemon that is pretty much dedicated to speed boosting to one Pokemon. Breloom really doesn't need it as you can run Substitute and Spore, come in on a slower Pokemon and spore it, then when they switch you susbtitute and proceed to Focus Punch/Seed Bomb away.

Also if your Breloom is getting the speed boosts it does not need a bulky EV set as it is not planning on taking hits. As after a speed boost it will outspeed and spore everything.

Also if you are looking for another water type and are still persistent on having the Agility pass you could try this set out.

Vaporeon @ Life Orb
Modest Nature
252 Special Attack/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP

HP Electric
Ice Beam
Surf
Signal Beam

This set pretty much gives you perfect coverage and allows you to rip through teams after one or two Agility boosts. Although only switch it in for Slowbro if you insist on keeping Zapdos as a Baton Passer.

Your team in its current condition is very U-turn weak, with Slowbro, Tyranitar and Breloom all being hit for super-effective damage.

Running T-wave, WoW and Spore on a team is not advised. The three statuses will create inconvenient conficts and hinder Breloom's chances of sporing and setting up.

Personally I would replace Slowbro with a Resttalk Suicune, and Reflect is a viable replacement for WoW on Rotom-H.

If you feel Baton Pass teams are a big threat keep Roar on Zapdos, and I don't know how often you keep Zapdos around for attacking but Thunderbolt might also be a waste. Substitute and Light Screen are all moves Zapdos could run to further help your Breloom set up sword dances.

This is just another possibility I'm throwing out there if you don't want to use a Water type everyone's seen (Though I will admit I've never seen a Life Orb Vaporeon)

Omastar @ Life Orb
Modest Nature
4HP/252SpA/252Spe

Ice Beam
Surf/Hydro Pump
Earth Power
Hidden Power [Electric]

With this, and one Agility under your belt, you can outspeed all Pokemon with 417 Speed or below (i.e. Timid Choice Scarf Heatran). Ice Beam, HP Electric for the BoltBeam. It isn't on any of his Smogon movesets, but Omastar can learn Earth Power from the HG/SS Move tutors, which means that he now has perfect coverage (Aside from against Shedinja, of course). Surf is for obligatory STAB, as well as Hydro Pump, though if you REALLY are paranoid about Sheddie, which you shouldn't be, AncientPower can replace it.

I'd hate to put my thread back up again, but I just have to ask a bit more. My thought would be to do something no one else normally does, so I think this could possibly be a good replacement for Slowbro:

398.png

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Calm
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 92 SpD / 4 Spe
~ Surf
~ Grass Knot
~ Ice Beam
~ Roar

I think I found a good fit. A huge plethora of resistances, great power, decent defenses, and a way to replace Zapdos on Roar.

If I do run this set, I could replace Zapdos' Roar with either Charge Beam, Substitute, or Roost. Right now I'm using Substitute.

Also, I prefer to run the more conventional Swords Dance set on Breloom especially since the Spore Punch set could be blocked by RestTalkers and Honchkrow, which will kill the SporePunch set.

Running T-wave, WoW and Spore on a team is not advised. The three statuses will create inconvenient conficts and hinder Breloom's chances of sporing and setting up.

Reflect is a viable replacement for WoW on Rotom-H.

Well, I decided it would be good to keep WoW since if Breloom ever dies, I lose my main source of offense so I need to find a way to counter against physical sweepers.

Ok Honchkrow semi-blocks the SubPunch set, as if you have a Substitute up the Focus Punch is still gonna do a lot of damage to Honchkrow as it is not resisted. Also Resttalk sets will still take huge damage if you are behind a Substitute as they cannot take down a Sub and stop the Punch in the same turn.

Resistances also plays here. Something that resists Focus Punch could kill it but at least the SD set has a much more powerful alternative STAB move available.

You can easily use Seed Bomb on the SubPunch set as the extra Stab move and of course there is always going to be something that resists your move. On this set up you require two Pokemon to be un-countered by the opponents team. Something could easily Taunt the Zapdos and then dispatch it rendering your Breloom easy fodder for anything slightly faster than it, which is most of the metagame.
