Status: Set being written

[SET]
name: Offensive Lead
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Gyro Ball
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Payback
ability: Heatproof
item: Lum Berry
nature: Brave
evs: 252 HP / 200 Atk / 56 SpD
ivs: 0 Speed

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
  • Very effective against most of the common leads
  • Can get up rocks and get one or two kills

Additional Comments:
  • 252 HP and 56 SpD let Bronzong easily survive attacks from commmon leads.
    252 Naive Azelf Fire Blast: 32 - 37.9%
    252 Naive Infernape Fire Blast 41.4 - 49.7%

I'm not done yet.

I fail to see the 'effectiveness' against other leads that you say this Bronzong set possesses. If you could actually think about this for a few minutes, and make a list of common scenarios Bronzong usually faces in the lead position, and post it afterwards of course, it would be great. No matter how much I think about the idea of the set in general, I continue seeing the final outcome as a negative result. See, the common Bronzong lead that's onsite does the job of setting up SR pretty well, and it also is able to get one or two kills before going down. What the one in the OP of this thread tries to accomplish is the same exact thing as the first Bronzong, but instead it has a more open repertoire to choose how to do so. The point I'm raising is: Gyro Ball + Explosion (and you can even add EQ to the combination) is already enough means to dispose of most common starters except for a few isolated cases. Therefore, there's no point in running max Attack or Heatproof on a Pokemon that doesn't need it. Heatproof is mentioned in OC, by the way, and that's the place it should stay in, in my opinion.

This is the same as the tank set on site with a different EV spread and nature. Bronzong can already 2HKO leads like Azelf and Infernape without a Brave nature so I don't see what you are gaining with this set. Anything I can think of with this set can be done just as well, if not better, with the set that is already on site since you are sacrificing Def and SpD EVs for some additional Atk.

As the above posters have claimed, I don't see much point in using this set. Not only is this set very similar to the Tank set onsite as KG said, the EVs are overall inferior to the Tank set simply because the high attack investment is superfluous. Bronzong values Bulk far more than slightly stronger attacks. I also agree with Setsuna that heatproof should should stay OC. Its not bad, just isn't that great. Sorry.

Looks like we all feel the same way about this set. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to lock this thread.
