Status: WIP

Overview
########
  • + Has access to reliable recovery and great ability for a defensive mon
  • + Has key resistances to fighting, fairy, water and electric, and above average bulk
  • + Has spikes for supporting the team
  • - Suffers heavy competition from foongus and chespin, the former shares the same typing and regenerator, while the latter can set up spikes easier and its pure grass typing lets it check more
  • - Steel types easily come in on budew
  • - Can not handle strong special attackers such as gastly
  • - Gothita traps and eliminates budew
  • - Has to rely on flawed forms of recovery

Defensive
########
name: Defensive
move 1: Spikes / Toxic Spikes
move 2: Synthesis / Rest
move 3: Sludge Bomb
move 4: Giga Drain / Hidden Power Fighting
ability: Natural Cure
item: Eviolite
evs: 36 HP / 236 Def / 36 Spa / 196 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

  • Spikes is budew's main ways of supporting the team.
  • Synthesis is there for semi-reliable recovery, but is weather dependent and has low PP, while rest requires you to switch out to not have to wait 2 turns.
  • Sludge Bomb is Budew's main way of dealing damage, as it hits fairies such as spritzee really hard and has a nasty poison chance.
  • Giga Drain is there to threaten water types and recover health while dealing damage, but Hidden Power Fighting can be used instead to hit steel types that otherwise come in for free. Needs to be used with a spread of 36 HP / 240 Def / 200 SpD to accommodate for the iv drops.
Set Details
========

  • The EVs and nature give budew good bulk from both sides to help tank hits from both sides alongside its great resistances.
  • Eviolite is used alongside the ev spread because budew has reliable recovery and hits eviolite numbers.
  • Natural Cure lets it absorb status and heal it off once it switches out, such as scald burns from the likes of Staryu.
Usage Tips
========

  • The aim of the set is to use Budew's decent defensive typing and good bulk to set up spikes to support teammates.
  • Against defensive teams you can switch in on a lot of mons and lay down spikes and find many times to heal up, but against offensive teams its best to stay healthy as long as possible.
  • Budew should switch into status users such as porygon and pumpkaboo-super, as its good bulk and natural cure lets it set up spikes on them while healing up health and status.
Team Options
========

  • Budew appreciates answers to psychic and fire types, so pokemon such as stunky and staryu are good partners, as stunky pursuit traps psychic types and is immune to their STAB, while staryu forms two thirds of a FWG core.
  • Fire and water types are great partners to form a FWG core and cover each others weaknesses.
  • Sweepers that enjoy budews ability to lay spikes are also good partners.
  • Fighting types can handle steel types that plague budew

Other Options
########

  • Sleep Powder for sleeping all pokemon not grass or have overcoat and stun spore for paralyzing all but the latter.
  • Extrasensory for fighters, gastly and poison types.
  • Hidden Power Fire for hitting ferroseed harder.
  • An offensive set with leaf storm, sludge bomb, rest, and hidden power fighting can be run with a spread of 160 Def / 120 SpA / 40 SpD / 160 Spe and a modest nature.
  • Toxic to wear down flying type switch ins like vullaby since they're immune to spikes.

Checks & Counters
########

**Steel-types**: Ferroseed and Pawniard wall Budew lacking Hidden Power Fighting or Hidden Power Fire. Ferroseed can lay hazards alongside Budew or knock off its eviolite, and Pawniard can Knock Off Budew's Eviolite and set up.

**Psychic-types**: Gothita can trap and eliminate Budew, while abra can come in on Spikes or come in after something died and threaten the team.

**Flying-types**: Archen can defog away spikes and threaten away with acrobatics, while fletchling and doduo can use it for set up bait or flat out KO budew.

Overview:
Budew's SpD is actually significantly better than its Def, so the statement about strong special attackers should be altered to encompass strong attackers in general along with setup Pokemon.
The last point is pretty specific and bordering on something that belongs in Move descriptions. Maybe a more general statement just about Budew having to rely on flawed recovery options

Set: I think this should be handled similarly to Trubbish and have Toxic Spikes relegated to OO.

Moves:
Due to weather being fairly rare and low PP not being an inconsistency, I believe Synthesis is considered reliable recovery, however it is good to note its flaws.
I'm not a big fan of the Sludge Bomb/Giga Drain descriptions. I feel like only mentioning Fairy- or Water-types is going too specific and leaving out information. I think general statements such as them being Budew's best STAB moves and having fairly good coverage together would be better.

Set Details: Probably good to note the Natural Cure + Rest combination when talking about healing off status.

Usage Tips:
"against offensive teams its best to stay healthy as long as possible."
Not sure I agree with this because Budew finds itself being deadweight against many offensive team archetypes and sometimes its best to just lay down Spikes as early as possible and use it as fodder.
Mention that if using Rest, it's generally best to switch out as soon as possible after using it to avoid being setup fodder.

Team Options:
Mention that using a Fighting-type with Budew makes a team much more susceptible to Flying-types.
Tirtouga and Archen have good typing synergy with Budew because they cover its Fire and Flying weakness while Budew handles Electric-, Water-, Grass-, and Fighting-types.

Other Options:
Sleep Powder: overcoat -> sleep immunities because things like Magby, Elekid, Spinarak, etc. exist.
Extrasensory: Gastly is a Poison-type so kinda redundant
HP Fire: Add on that it still hits Steel-types.
Toxic: I think this is better for wearing down walls because most Flying-types don't appreciate taking a Sludge Bomb anyway. Vullaby is still a good example though.
Add in Stun Spore and Toxic Spikes

Checks and Counters:
Add a section for hazard removers because they defeat Budew's main purpose and adjust Flying-types to not talk about Defog.
Add in Taunt users for the same reason.

QC 1/4 :]
