Other Bug Monotype Team Featuring Mega Scizor & Sticky Web

Hello everyone. I have posted a bunch of RMTs before, but for a Mono-type team! I have messed around in the monotype tier since the beginning of XY, but never anything serious. I just love the teambuilding aspect of a Monotype team as its challenging but very fun at the same time. After playing around with many different types, I have decided to pursue a career in being a Bug Gym leader because they are fun to play with and have a lot of my favorite Pokemon. When I first decided to run with Bug as my type in the later stages of XY, I thought it going to be one of the lesser-used types, with the Stealth Rock weakness among other downfalls. For a while, that was exactly the case. But with Talonflame banned (who could normally sweep 4-5 members of any given bug team), Mono-Bug got pretty damn popular, especially when Genesect was still around. It is still a great type with loads of potential and options, even with Legendary Bug gone. One specific Pokemon that dominates Monotype at the moment is M-Pinsir, with many talks of him possibly being suspected/banned. I have never been a fan of generic teams just to gets wins, and wanted to be different from the crowd. Plus, my favorite Pokemon growing up was Scyther, which turned then became both Scyther and Scizor. I am a huge fan of Scizor’s mega form. I use it on just about all of my OU teams and even sometimes in Ubers. Monoype Bug has a pretty unique ability to run Sticky Web, a very interesting move that not many other teams have access too. M-Scizor loves the Sticky Web support due to his lower speed, becoming a more dangerous Pokemon than ever. It seemed like a perfect start, and this is team where I went with it. So here is my Mono-Bug Sticky Web team featuring M-Scizor. I would really appreciate as much advice as possible!

Galvantula @
focussash_zpsguqfdkns.png
Focus Sash
Ability: Compoundeyes
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 4 SpDef / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sticky Web
- Bug Buzz
- Thunder
- Energy Ball

So after deciding that I wanted to run Sticky Web, it was between Galvantula and Shuckle. I knew I wanted more of run more of an offensive team from the start, so Galvantula was a pretty simple choice. Galvatnula is lighting fast, no pun-intended :p, and can always get up Sticky Web quickly when combined with Sticky Web. This puts pressure on the opponent from turn one, something very important for an offense team. The Timid nature and max special attack max speed EVs are standard. Being able to fire off 91% accurate Thunders is amazing, especially with the 30% paralysis chance. Energy ball is chosen as the coverage move to hit Grounds that can eat Thunders, and Rocks type that resist Bugs in general.

Armaldo @
leftovers_zpsnpxpprpo.png
Leftovers
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin

I knew Armaldo was going to be on part of my six when I decided on a Bug mono. He brings so much to the table, from Stealth Rocks to Rapid Spin, to a Fire and Flying type neutrality, which is a godsend for Bugs. I know I said is a more offensive team, but I chose an Impish nature with max HP and Def to keep Armaldo along as long as possible. For a Bug team, having your Spinner alive as long as possible is more vital, plus his ability to put back Rocks if they are spun away earlier in the match. Plus, Armaldo has an attack stat of 125, which combined with powerful moves like Stone Edge and Earthquake, means Armaldo will still pack quite a punch, especially when compared to the other hazard setters bug offers such as Forretress and Shuckle. I chose Stone Edge for the obvious STAB, while Earthquake was chosen to hit Fire types, Steel types, Poison types and Steel types, all of which resist Bug. Leftovers is chosen for longevity, of course.

Heracross @
choiceband_zpstm7al9f5.png
Choice Band
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

This is the team’s Wall/Stallbreaker and he certainly hits hard. Using an Admant nature and Band is no problem on a sticky Web team, allowing Heracross to punch holes in the enemy team without worrying about speed. Moves and EVs are standard. Heracross is my way of taking out counters early on using his immediate power, so that another teammate can come in and sweep later on. Moxie is chosen as the ability, as after a single boost, a +1 Adamant Choice band Heracross will start killing things even on resisted hits. Often the opponent will have to sack Pokemon they wanted to save for later to avoid things getting completely out of control. Heracross always causes serious problems for the opponent, and one wrong switch-in for the opponent will start a snowball effect that can be impossible to stop without sacrificing have your team. While Mega Heracross did cross my mind when making a Stick Web Mono-Bug team, Vanilla Band Heracross puts in such work and takes advantage of Sticky Web just as much as his mega form does.

Volcarona @
lumberry_zpsvzptzk8v.png
Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpAtk /184 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance
- Hidden Power [Ground]

Volcarona is an absolute must for any serious Mono Bug team. A deadly Special attacker that offers Fire STAB, which is great against opposing Steel Mono, and of course a Fire Neutrality. I went with the Special sweeper set, with a few twists to suite this team better. I went with a Timid nature and 184 EVs in Spe to outpace Landorus-T after a single Quiver Dance, with the rest going into HP. Hidden Power Ground is chosen to get past Fire Types specifically. Fire types are not only extremely dangerous to the rest of the team, but would wall Volcarona to death without HP Ground. Lum Berry is to protect Volcarona from status so she can get those boots up safely.

Scolipede @
lifeorb_zps0gjrttcn.png
Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 Hp / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Megahorn
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake

The next member of my team is Scolipede. I decided to go with an all-out attacking set designed to help out against Fire and Steel teams with Volcarona. An Admant nature with max attack gives Scolipede immediate power as it accumulates speed boosts. Megahorn for the obvious STAB that nothing is immune to. Rock Slide is chosen as coverage for being able to hit Fire and Flying types, while Earthquake is chosen to hit Fire and Steel types. Big thanks to Twix for the reccomendation.

Scizor @
scizorite_zpsbdjlwgfv.png
Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
-Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Knock Off

Mega Scizor is the final member of the team. I decided to go with the Swords Dance set, which really shines under Sticky Web. I like to try and save Mega Scizor until late game, where, hopefully, enemy priority is gone. Bullet Punch is an obvious choice, with Bug Bite for STAB and Knock Off for coverage and to get rid of enemy items. An Adamant nature with max attack EVs for the immediate power if Scizor needs to come in and revenge something with Bullet Punch. The rest of the EVs are put into HP for extra bulk. If he gets up a Swords Dance or has one him passed, its dangerous. If it happens with Sticky Web up, its really, really dangerous.

Thank you guys for taking the time to read through about my team. A threat list will be put together soon. Advice and recommendations are completely encouraged and would be such a big help to make this team the best it can be!

Hey man, sorry to say, but your Scolipede set is now illegal due to Smogon's new Baton Pass Clause. At this point, I'd make it an all out attacker with Life Orb, as it can help you out against Steel and Fire-type teams.

Scolipede @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Protect / Swords Dance
- Megahorn
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake

On this set, Poison Jab isn't really a necessity, but can be added if you feel like you're having issues with Fairies. This set is a solid answer to most of the Pokemon on Fire-type monos, as well as working well with Volcarona against Steel. You can even add Hidden Power Ice to help with your severe weakness to Landorus-T.
Also, make the Volcarona spread: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe with a Timid Nature to outpace Scarf Landorus-Therian after a Quiver Dance.

Volcarona @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance / Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ground]
After this, I'd actually suggest resorting to Mega Heracross > Choice Band as it can really help out against bulky Water-type Monos and make it overall much bulkier. With this
change, you'd have to make Scizor Choice Band > Scizorite.

Heracross @ Heracronite
Ability: Guts / Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Bullet Seed
- Rock Blast
- Pin Missile

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit / Knock Off

Damnnnn this completely slipped my mind. Thank you so much and I will try the set you gave me :)

Sorry, I pressed the button too soon. I edited in some more suggestions in my post

I have implemented the changes to Scolipede and Volcarona. The Scolipede set seems great, and I have chosen Swords Dance over Protect to punish switches. Would Black Sludge be a more viable option now that Swords Dance is chosen? The Volcarona changes you have recommended make perfect sense as well. While M-Hera + Vanilla Scizor may be a bit better than M-Zor + Vanilla Heracross, I am extremely loyal to Mega Scizor. Thats not to say I'm against the change, I just need to test it out and see how I like it. I really appreciate your help and recommendations :D

Hey there, cool looking team and nice to see a non-Mega-Pinsir team!
Couple suggestions.

1) I'd suggest Poison Jab on Scolipede. It can act as an excellent wincon against Fairies, and once Klefki is dead you can sweep most of the meta. Rock Slide / EQ are both good coverage moves, but I'd probably drop Rock Slide personally because between your other moves you can hit nearly anything at least neutrally, and the few things you can't ie Lando (T or I) or Skarm you won't want to stay in against even with rock slide.

2) Bug Bite is a powerful STAB on Scizor, however it doesn't really offer any coverage and Bullet Punch hits nearly everything almost as hard with priority. Plus, it's a mono bug team so it's not like you're hard-fought for bug type coverage. I'd drop it for Roost personally, or at least put Roost on and then slash Bug Bite on. Scizor can set up SDs and Roost against a ton of mons, and it's hard to stop for a lot of monos. Oh, and take 4 HP Evs and give it 8 Spe, to speed creep other uninvested Scizors.

Everything else looks good, nice team!

After playing a bunch of matches, I actually did just that, and dropped Rock Slide for Poison Jab. I played a few matches against Fairy, and Mega Scizor just had too much weight on his shoulders (still won both :D). Thank you so much for your suggestion :D

And I think Roost is a great idea, because you're right, i'm not short on Bug Moves and Roost is such an excellent tool that combined with M-Scizor's bulk, really separates him from the other Bug Megas. Again, thank you so much for your great suggestions! :D <3
