Bulky Attackers...Unite!

I've been playing casually for years but only got involved with competitive play at the tail end of Gen 5. With the release of the new games, I was super stoked to work with the internet in figuring out Gen 6's metagame. This is the team I've been playing with (some what successfully) on Showdown, a team built around...

Mawile w/ Mawilite
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4SpDef
Ability: Intimidate
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Stone Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough

Mawile has always been my favorite unusable pokemon. Such an awesome design with absolutely no competitive viability. So, of course, I was stoked to see her get a mega evolution. She serves as the quintessential bulky attacker. Her defense and typing allow her to take a good number of physical hits and with her mega ability, Huge Power, she hits like a truck full of dynamite. Sucker Punch is a great addition, specifically with handling Megengar and, if I predict correctly, Aegislash. Especially with the help from...

Galvantula w/ Focus Sash
252 SpAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Ability: Compoundeyes
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Sticky Web
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz

My lead. The sticky web set up really helps a team that is otherwise, a bit on the slow side. Typically I start with sticky web and then volt switch out of there. The focus sash helps me almost guarantee he won't die. I went with thunder, a second electric attack, so that he can do a little bit more than just support, especially with the accuracy boost of compoundeyes, he can really bring in the hurt. I was worried sticky web would be too gimmicky but I've been very pleased. I opted with bug buzz instead of energy ball in order to deal with his main nemesis, Espeon and its Magic Bounce.

Cloyster w/ King's Rock
252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Ability: Skill Link
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Shell Smash
- Hydro Pump

The man. The legend. My main sweep. Especially with sticky web and if I can time a shell smash well, he can sweep most. And his unbelievable defense allows me to switch into most, if not all, physical threats.

Trevenant w/ Leftovers
252 HP / 96 Atk / 160 SDef
Ability: Natural Cure
Adamant Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Horn Leech
- Rest
- Shadow Claw

My special tank. Unlike a lot of trev builds I've seen, I decided to invest a little bit more into attack with the adamant nature and 96 EVs. His SpDef can handle most non-SE attackers and with Will-O-Wisp he can easily take most physical threats as well. I love the combo of natural cure and rest. Especially since he's slower than most, allows me to basically reset him when the going gets tough.

Reuniclus w/ Rocky Helmet
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDef
Ability: Magic Guard
Bold Nature
- Psychic
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Focus Blast

Except for the occasional hard hitting physical SE attack, this ball of bubbly goodness can stand up against basically all physical threats. Spamming recover as the physical threats take damage from his helmet prevent most physicals from staying out against him. With the right timing, I can get a calm mind or two off and then the damage starts reigning in too, as well as beefing him up against special attacks.

Tyrantrum w/ Life Orb
252 HP / 252 Atk
Ability: Strong Jaw
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Fire Fang
- Earthquake
- Head Smash

When you just want things dead. My concern with this guy is that he's too similar to Mawile with the same nature and EV spread. Where he differentiates himself is his coverage. He's my only fire attack (which is a problem I've been having with my team) and helps stop pesky fire threats my team sometimes has problems with. The recoil from head smash is a bit much, but not much can stand up against 150 base power + STAB + life orb.

The team has been working fairy well for me on Showdown, but every once and a while I come up against a team that totally wrecks me. It may just be a matter of playing style, since there isn't much pattern to what 'mons get me (looking at you, Gliscor) but any and all advice is sure to help! Thanks in advance!

Hello, welcome to Smogon!
I don't know if you know this, but Tyrantrum gets rock head for a dream world ability. With it, Rock Head Head Smashes are devastating.
Also, since tyrantrum is so powerful, I would reccommend choice band over life orb. But life orb is fine if you like switching moves.
Also, are you using stone edge to hit something specfic on Mawile? If not, here's an unorthodox move you can use instead- Foul Play. Huge power affects this move, and Dark+ Fairy have good coverage together.
I might rate more later tommorow.
Good Luck!

Oooh, foul play, I hadn't considered that. Stone edge was really just for some extra coverage, nothing specific. How does mawile learn foul play? Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately Foul Play is a Gen V tutor move, so if not playing Pokébank OU, you can't use it.

If this is Pre-Bank, on that Mawile I would recommend replacing Stone Edge with Swords Dance or Substitute. Since Mawile forces so many switches, it works to advantage to have a set-up move. Substitute in particular is good, since it also protects her from burn status, which is always a problem for her, and eases prediction with Sucker Punch.

Yeah, I've seen a swords dance build on mawile a few times on showdown but I hadn't thought about trying substitute with her. I think I might give that a try, thanks!
