SV OU BULKY OFFENSE

I wanted to try my hand at playing competitive pokemon this gen since it's easier to build stuff on hardware. the ideas from these teams came from looking at shells from previous generations

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Trick

rotom-w was part of the original 2 pokemon I wanted to use. since rotom lost defog I decided to give it Trick to help worsen offensive pokemon. other then that, it's the normal rotom-w set.

Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Defog
- U-turn
- Body Press
- Roost

corviknight was the second pokemon I wanted to use. Rocky helmet seemed like a good idea to chip out more pokemon but i might judt switch it for leftovers. it's pretty much the normal set for corviknight so I don't have much to say.

Chi-Yu @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beads of Ruin
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Overheat
- Psychic

chi-yu here is a wallbreaker to take the role tape level did when volcarona + tape lele was a thing.
I was originally going to make it tera electric and run terablast to help add coverage for water pokemon but decided to use Tera Fire for the extra stab. making it Tera Fire opened up room for psychic though so I'm not too mad.

Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 108 Def / 152 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Giga Drain

bulky volcarona was the second part of the offense core and the setup sweeper of the team. originally, I ran morning sun instead of giga drain but I wanted something to hit garganacl and the waters.

Gholdengo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Make It Rain
- Trick
- Shadow Ball

gholdengo here acts as a spin blocker and a way to neuter defensive pokemon. I went with Tera Flying becuase I heard it was good but idrk what to do with it. I went with Thunderbolt instead of the focus blast I usually see becuase when I do see gholdengos they usually have Tera water or Flying.

Clodsire @ Black Sludge
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Recover

eventually I got to my last slot and noticed water pokemon still felt like a big problem, then I remembered clodsire had water absorb. I decided black sludge>leftovers becuase of Trick being prevalent rn. it being able to set up hazards and put a clock on certain pokemon does wonders though so I'm happy with it overall.

hii, can you clarify why you are using trick rotom with leftovers instead of scarf? idk it feels a bit out of place.

originally I was running Scarf, I switched it to leftovers to increase its staying power. I was actually thinking of running lagging tail but didn't know how much I would get off it. Scarf is probably the best item for sure though.

Hey, welcome to Smogon and PS! Hope you are having fun with Gen 9. Here is a paste of your team if anyone else wants it in this form https://pokepast.es/cecf7b7138bd62f0. Here are some of the weaknesses that I noticed
  • Espathra. Nothing new, tons of teams are weak to this thing. The set you will usually see of ladder is Calm Mind Stored Power and 2 fillers like Protect, Roost, Tera Blast, Dazzling Gleam and Substitute.
  • Roaring Moon. The Dark resist of the team is Chi-Yu which can't deal with Roaring Moon at all. If it decides to Tera Flying then Corvi's Body Press will barely scratch it.
  • Hazards. Your team has no Spinners, no Magic Bouncer and the only boots user is Volcarona. Teams like this can get run over by Hazards + Gholdengo since Good as Gold blocks Corvi's Defog.
Of course we also have to rethink the Rotom-Wash set since Trick + Leftovers doesn't make too much sense. Here are the changes that I came up with
  • First we can make Clodsire Tera Dark. You are not using the tera at all and Dark helps vs Espathra, while also giving you a Dark resist. Another change on Clod I made was Leftovers > Black Sludge. Even though trick is common, it sucks to have Black Sludge if and after you tera.
  • Hatterene > Volcarona. Volcarona felt a bit on the team. Hatt will help us handle hazards better while also providing a possible wincon. I put Tera Water on it cause it's a nice defensive type, but others like Fire work too.
  • Iron Defense > U-Turn on Corviknight. This will better help us handle Roaring Moon, as well as Great Tusk, Kingambit, Dragonite and other physical attackers.
  • I decided to make Rotom help us defensively, so I include a SpDef set with Protect. Protect lets us get more leftis recovery while also scouting choiced users.
  • I feel like having a reliable fire attack on Chi-Yu is important, so I changed Flamethrower > Fire Blast. You can also put Fire Blast over Psychic as Psychic doesn't hit too many things, but up to you.
After this changes the remaining ones are made to handle Chien Pao, which is very very scary for this team. Those changes include
  • Tera Fairy on Corviknight. Just something good defensively that resists Dark. The second part is the most important, so feel free to try other teras like Fighting or Dark.
  • Tera Fighting on Gholdengo. Flying tera is actually used to be immune to EQ, mainly from Great Tusk and Iron Treads. I don't think you have to particularly worry about those nor about spinblocking, since your Clod only has Rocks and not Spikes. Tera Fighting will help us with Chien-Pao trying to Crunch/Sucker Punch.
  • The Def EV's on Rotom-Wash are to live a Banded Crunch from Adamant Chien-Pao (if it doesn't tera) after Rocks and 1 turn of Leftovers recovery (which you can get with Protect).
Keep in mind that you are still a tad weak to Banded Roaring Moon, Banded Chien-Pao and Specs Chi-Yu, but hopefully these changes can help a bit. In the sample teams you'll find similar cores that use Ting-Lu (who helps vs Espathra and Darks mainly Chi-Yu). If you are willing to take this direction I would suggest Ting-Lu > Clodsire, though that would make the team rather weak to rain, and Iron Valiant would become way more annoying. You can prolly try that along Thunder Wave > Will-O-Wisp Rotom-Wash (to cripple Iron Valiant) and just keep it healthy at all costs for both of those. Also Tera Poison on Ting-Lu would help vs Valiant if you really need to use it.

Here is the Clodsire version: https://pokepast.es/78b31b68ae428c0f
Here is the Ting-Lu version: https://pokepast.es/ab7f777a143f2256

Hope the changes help a bit c:
