XY OU Bulky Offensive: Digital Ancestry

Hi guys. I have been building a bulky offensive team around Porygon-2 and Cofagrigus; I did this because while I find Hyper Offense pretty stupid boring I also dislike running Full-Stall.

General Overview:

Teambuilding Process:
I started with my main core: Porygon2 and Cofagrigus, they both cover the other weakness and only leave out dark type as a problem.

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Bold Nature
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
  • Typical offensive set for Porygon2, with only one weakness and full type coverage with Thunderbolt and Ice Beam Porygon2 seemed like one of most reliable pokemon in the tier; Thunder Wave is to cripple and set up the game for other sweepers.
  • The current EV Spread permits Porygon-2 to receive a unboosted Fighting move in case Cofagrigus is already fainted or because I did a misplay.
  • Trace, when most of the time is seen as gimmick, It helps Porygon2 to crush Pokemons that rely on their abilities (I'm looking at you Gliscor and Greninja). Also, Protean Duck wrecks face.

Cofagrigus @ Leftovers
Ability: Mummy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Knock Off
- Shadow Ball

  • Cofagrigus is so strong, I don't even understand why he is on the UU tier. With only Tyranitar, Crawdaunt, Bisharp and M-Gyarados in the entire tier resisting his 2 moves in this set Cofagrigus becomes a real powerhouse in this team and also works as a Spinblocker; His only problem is a lack of reliable recovery.
  • Mummy adds even more awesomeness to this guy, you LITERALLY force Medicham, Mawile and Char X to switch out fearing being Mummified and burned; this also synergies with Porygon2 Trace; spreading the "Mummy-Virus" (Mummy-Virus is highly contagious, please avoid contact with infected sweepers).
  • The current spread lets Cofagrigus to survive most special attacks; he really doesn't need that much defense because he can pseudo-boost it with Will-O-Wisp and it still bulky enough to survive a Mawile Play Rough.
Since my main core was already built and seemed pretty solid I decided to add a second and fully defensive core which consists of a dedicated physical wall and a dedicated special wall that works also as way to place entry hazards and remove them because as a team full of bulky pokemons many switches are required to mantain momentum. Skarmory and Tentacruel seemed to good for this job, Skarmory tanks physical hits that they don't even tickle it; Tentacruel is my another wall, and main Rapid Spinner; This one usually gets dead first since his resistances are nothing to brag about.

skarmory.gif

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Roost
- Brave Bird
- Whirlwind

  • Tanking hits, Para-Hazing, placing entry hazards and still having offensive presence? Yes, please.
  • This dude only gets KO when I suddenly decide to suck at this game do a wrong prediction or if I use it as a death fodder to confirm victory.
  • Roost is for reliable recovery, and cripples enemy sweepers slowly with no need of Toxic.
  • The EV spread is for only tanking physical hits, as a dedicated physical wall he must be able to tank STAB moves and boosted attacks.

tentacruel.gif

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Protect
- Scald

  • In reality this guy always dies and doesn't endure enough to use Rapid Spin effectively, Black Sludge is the only way of recovery and even if he is fully invested in Special Defense he can't tank too much and Choice items destroy it, the only real reason I still have it its because Rapid Spin.
  • The moveset is really simple, Rapid Spin for Entry Hazard control; Scald to pseudo-boost his frail defense along with a nice STAB move. Protect is for surviving that extra psychic and Toxic Spikes to cripple stall.
  • I'm looking forward to replace this one with either another defensive rapid spinner or a defogger like Mandibuzz.
With a bulky offensive core and a defensive core ready, I needed 2 pokemon with the ability to clean up a paralyzed, burned and poisoned I choose Scrafty and Dragonite:

scrafty.gif

Scrafty @ Lum Berry
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch

  • Scrafty is my main sweeper, with enough support from Cofagrigus, Porygon-2 and Skarmory this guy can easily kill the final opposing pokemons easily, Lum Berry is there instead of Life Orb to avoid being crippled by Prankster users or pokemons that I can't outspeed.
  • The current EV spread and nature is to outspeed every posible threat and with enough paralyzed enemies he can just sweep through them.
  • The moveset is really simple also, 2 STABs one of them gives you a good way of recovery and a Ice coverage move for dealing with the likes of Lando-T and Dragons.
  • Even if it has a x4 weakness to Fairy-type it has an amazing x4 resistance to Dark-type that Cofagrigus and Porygon2 have problems with, the only downside is that the Mummy-Virus can really affect his sweeping potential.
dragonite.gif

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- ExtremeSpeed
- Roost
  • Dragonite is there to eliminate Scrafty threats, with a Weakness Policy it can bait HP Ice or Electric attacks to quickly eliminate the threat with +2 Priority.
  • Roost is for resetting Multiscale when forcing out a pokemon, Dragon Claw is obligatory STAB and ExtremeSpeed is for priority, in conjuction with Earthquake he can hit for neutral damage every pokemon with the exception of Shedinja and Skarmory.
  • The current EV spread allows for baiting super-effective attacks without problem and still dealing enough damage to 2HKO most threats.
  • With a good entry hazard control from Tentacruel, Multiscale is hardly nullified.
Sooo... What are your thoughts about it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall you're only supposed to bump your thread once. :/

About the actual team, however:

1. I suggest using this dragonite set instead

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Fire Punch
- ExtremeSpeed
- Roost
- Outrage

Outrage for the sheer power, even though you're locked in, you'll have crippled some of the opponents pokemon by then. Fire punch is for the ice and steel (and bug, if anyone chose to use that) coverage, as it serves a better purpose than earthquake. Oh, and I think you misplaced the special attack with the physical attack on Dragonite's set.

2. For Skarmory, I suggest replacing Brave Bird with spikes. it allows for more set-up opportunities. In my opinion, you're already a support pokemon, there's no need to brave bird when you're main sweeper's physical anyway.

Really, other than that, I can't see too much wrong with this team. I like the Porygon2 and Cofagrigus synergy, although I'd go for toxic instead of Thunder Wave on Porygon2.

Hi nice Team.
I have one only suggestion i hope it will help you. replace Brave Bird with Counter on Skarmory. this make nice combo with Rocky Helmet and Sturdy you will surprise and OHKO any physical attacker that think he can stay and set up on Skarmory. For example you will OHKO Dragonite even after 6 DD.

Also I don't see a use for the speed EVs. this one is better 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe

Pretty creative team, unfortunately I am short on time but I will do what I can in that span of time.

Yeah dEnIsSsS is right, Scrafty is a really shitty win condition in OU. Find literally anything else. I'll leave it mostly up to you but go for something that can take advantage of Tentacruel's Rapid Spin support or the presence of Cof and Skarm checking physical threats.
Mega Gardevoir would not be a bad choice at all, as you do lack something to break through stall and with Calm Mind, M Gard would absolutely wreck defensive builds in the late game while still being fairly useful against offense due to a decent base 100 Speed and a massive SpD stat to take on offensive Pokemon like Thundurus and Greninja.

Speaking of Skarmory, Counter is much better than Brave Bird. Skarmory is hella weak and Counter actually poses a threat to powerful physical attackers that take pitiful damage from Brave Bird before they just overrun the poor bird due to the immense power of this generation's physical attackers. Leftovers over Rocky Helmet is preferable as well.

If you're going for a more tanky Dragonite, your moves are fine but I have a couple more optimal spreads for you than the one you currently have:

CrashinBoomBang's Dragonite
Dragonite@Leftovers
Multiscale
Adamant
216 HP 64 Atk 228 SDef

My Dragonite
Dragonite@Leftovers
Multiscale
Adamant
248 HP 64 Atk 72 Def 124 SDef

The first spread allows you to take two Sludge Waves from Landorus-I after Rocks while the second can take two Banded Brave Birds from Talonflame with Multiscale intact as well as being able to take a Jolly Mega Pinsir Return after Rocks. Both are pretty great against offensive teams.

Overall this is a pretty creative semi-stall concept you have going on here, a lot of your team just seems very passive for no reason to me.
Like Porygon-2, what exactly does it provide for your team besides just sitting there tanking hits, what can it do defensively that Cofagrigus+Skarmroy won't already? I feel like Magic Guard Clefable or CroCune can both fill that slot more effectively, as they can both still take on most of what Porygon2 would (Greninja etc.) while actually posing a significant threat/adding a win condition for your team. Both are also infinitely more useful against stall, which you have serious issues getting past.

Good Luck on the rest of this!

This team looks more like a gen 5 OU team more than anything, except for weakness policy dragonite. Not sure if this was mentioned, but knock off on scrafty can be much more useful for taking off those random leftovers and the damage boost is nice, and protect on Tentacruel is likely outclassed by Haze. One of those new whimsicott/azelf based baton pass teams would just destroy it otherwise. But this team did well for me in the gen 5 ou ladder, though it's a gen 6 team
