Moves
=========
Leaf Storm is Serperior's main STAB move, dealing heavy damage and triggering a +2 Special Attack boost through its Contrary ability. Hidden Power Rock hits many of Serperior's switch-ins that resist Grass-type moves such as Zapdos, Thundurus, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard Y. On the other hand, Hidden Power Fire super effectively hits Steel-types such as Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, Magnezone, and Mega Metagross that would otherwise give Serperior a hard time. Glare paralyzes foes that are faster than Serperior as well as foes that cannot be effectively damaged with Serperior's other moves like Tornadus-T and Heatran. In combination with a Chesto Berry, Rest heals Serperior instantly and removes all status conditions, providing greater longevity.
Set Details
========
Max Speed investment and Timid nature are preferred to fully utilize Serperior's base 113 Speed. 200 HP and 44 Defense EVs allow it to survive Mega Lopunny's Fake Out and High Jump Kick as well as a Hurricane from Tornadus-T. The bulk gives Serperior time to accumulate Special Attack boosts through the combination of Leaf Storm and Contrary. With a raised Special Attack and the ability to use Rest later in the game, Serperior can effectively remove some of its threats such as Thundurus and Mega Alakazam.
It is worth noting that EVs invested in Special Attack double in value after a single Leaf Storm. Though this set is quite bulky and formidable, it will lack in immediate power even after one Leaf Storm due to a lack of Special Attack investment.
Usage Tips
========
The main advantage of using Rest Serperior is its ability to cure status conditions that Serperior often receives throughout the game. Paralysis is common to get upon switching into Slowbro, Clefable, Thundurus, or even opposing Serperior. Serperior also gets burnt often by switching in on Scalds or Rotom-W's Will-O-Wisp. Finally, Serperior often gets poisoned by switching in on Slowbro or Gastrodon. Having a one-time full recovery allows Serperior to get past some of its checks throughout the game if played carefully. A paralysis on Tornadus-T can later lead to a KO with some good positioning and luck.
Team Options
========
Serperior functions well in balanced or bulky offense teams. Due to its weakness to fast Flying- and Ice-types such as Tornadus-T and Weavile, respectively, Pokemon like Mega Metagross, Rotom-W, and Heatran make
suitable partners. Strong physical attackers like Choice Band Tyranitar and Weavile help Serperior by overcoming defensive cores. Additionally, these teammates can Pursuit trap threats like Latias, Amoonguss, Heatran, and Tornadus-T, and can take advantage of paralysis that Serperior provides with Glare.
