Hello there, denizens of RMT! Today i bring to you my now standard team, a wondrous combination of five of my favorite pokemon (and Gliscor). The team emcompasses my usual strategy, which typically consists of 2-3 bulkish set up sweepers, a utility, 1-2 tanks and a dedicated wall. I haven't tested it too thoroughly but it seems to have pretty good synergy, so without further ado, here are your stars!
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 Spd / 100 HP / 156 Def
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Toxic
Gliscor. What to say about Gliscor. He would be perfect if it weren't for his crippling weakness to Ice, but we will get to that later. Gliscors standard SubToxic set has remained tried and true for me for a long time, with one minor variation. His speed is maxed. This allows him to get off many more Toxics on Pokes that would normally be faster than him, as well as set up Subs on the same. After that, wall and stall, baby. His 4x Ice weakness can be a pain, but numerous other mons on my team can take an ice beam or punch without batting an eyelid.
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Hasty Nature
- Spikes
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Grass]
My wonderful utility and many times lead, Greninja's great Speed and almost perfect typing synergy with Aegislash isn't what earned him a part on my team (although it sure helped). Protean was the kicker here. With spikes he can gain a valuable immunity to Tbolt and Thunderwave, and HP grass counters Rotom-W hard. Ice beam and Surf, whilst not lending the best coverage, allow me to KO threats i have trouble with otherwise, such as Dnite, Salamence and Heatran.
Aegislash (F) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Spd / 200 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Autotomize
- Swords Dance
- Sacred Sword
- Shadow Claw
My flagship sweeper (and only IRL shiny) is Aegislash. I've opted for a bit of a different set here, running double dance and Weakness Policy and forgoing Kings Shield. This combo will hopefully give me the edge on my counters, and brings a world of hurt to those Fire and Ground types who can't OHKO me. The Speed EV's are there so that i outspeed all of OU after autotomize (minus Jolteon, whose coverage is so terrible he isn't a threat anyway). After that, I can SD if i need the extra power, or, if my Weakness Policy has activated, outspeed and sweep.
Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Gooey
EVs: 100 SDef / 156 HP / 252 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
My Special Wall/Tank, this thing isn't to be messed with. The average Ice Beam does 24% to Assault Vest Goodra. Then what happens? I choose my coverage move of choice and wipe the opponent off the face of WiFi/PS. Decent synergy with Gliscor helps too, as it can essentially absorb his 2 most common threats, Hydro Pump and Ice Beam. Not much else to say here, he essentially has become my panic pokemon for special attackers.
Hydreigon @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Superpower
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
My (slightly less tanky) special attacker, Hydreigon is a good one to send in when i dont have any other good ideas. Usually able to take a hit and with good synergy with Aegislash, he can pop off STAB Draco Meteors and destroy several checks and counters. His lowish speed can be a burden, but his excellent coverage helps overcome that.
Talonflame
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Flare Blitz
- Will-O-Wisp
- Swords Dance
One of my favorites of all time, Talonflame is a revenge killer/sweeper in the purest sense. He's also my first line of defense against Darmanitan, who can OHKO Aegislash. Priority Acrobatics does wonders, and when boosted by SD is pretty much the strongest priority in the game thanks to Gale Wings. Will-o-Wisp is there to cripple those he can't OHKO so their attack is lowered and some residual damage is done if Talon fails to survive.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated, I would love to know any way to make this team better. Thanks for reading!
