Hey guys, I built a UU team around Venomoth. I find it does well against most teams, however I found that I struggle against certain Pokemon. Mostly things like Curselax, Mega-Swampert, Reuniclus, Rotom-H and other pokemon that set up. I'm trying to figure out if I have any redundancies or liabilities, or if it's just from general inexperience.
AATTVVV (Venomoth) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Tinted Lens
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Bug Buzz
- Roost
- Substitute
- Quiver Dance
I wanted a set-up sweeper that can come in late game on walls and begin to set up, and that has good coverage. I find that in certain situations, I'm 6-6 before Venomoth sets up and 6-0 after. [1] The team I built around him is great at wearing down opponents and allows Venomoth to come in on a wall and begin to set up. I find this works great against Pokemon such as Florges, Tentacruel, Amoongus, etc. [2] Tinted lens gives me great coverage that can sweep almost anything; even special walls like Blissey with enough set up time, and Florges. After a few quiver dances, special hits do very little damage and Venomoth can outspeed most things. [3]
Tails (Azelf) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Energy Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
- Flamethrower
I wanted something with more coverage that can still hit fairly hard to clean up if I never have the opportunity to set up Venomoth. [1] Azelf has filled more of a revenge killer and late game sweeper role. and checks offensive Water and Dragon types that caused me problems in the past.[2] Energy Ball is an attempt to stop Mega-Swampert, and other water types, Dazzling Gleam for Dragons, Psychic for STAB and Flamethrower for coverage.[3] Azelf is the newest edit to the team, not sure how it'll work out in the long run, but so far has helped a bit.
Grape (Crobat) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 48 Def / 212 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Defog
- Roost
- U-turn
I wanted a pivot with some offense and defense that could also use Defog.[1] Comes in on fighting and ground types that switch into Mega Steelix, and poison, and grass types that attack Vaporeon and Tangrowth, or on less offensive Pokemon. He's deceptively bulky and can take hits from walls and tanks, and does decent damage on almost anything.[2] Brave Bird checks grass and fighting types and does decent damage on anything not resisted. Roost has come in clutch against electric and ice types and has given me chances to U-Turn more safely.[3]
Yummy (Vaporeon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Scald
- Heal Bell
- Protect
I wanted a bulky water type to deal with fire, rock, and ground types that can destroy Venomoth, also something that worked well with Tangrowth and Mega-Steelix. [1] Very standard cleric set. Can switch in on even super effective special attacks and can Wish/Protect damage away. Also stops specially offensive Pokemon if they don't set up like Hydreigon and Goodra, even if they have water coverage like Rotom-H not specs. Also walls other bulky water types that Tangrowth can't [2] Wish passing is great for Tangrowth and Mega Steelix, especially the latter since he has no reliable recovery. And wanted Heal Bell for status.[3]
Linguine (Tangrowth) @ Wide Lens
Ability: Regenerator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Knock Off
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder
- Leech Seed
Tangrowth works well with Mega Steelix and Vaporeon to form a solid defensive core, also wanted some utility and a physical wall that can handle things Mega Steelix can't [1]. Comes in on walls and Eviolite users for Knock-Off. Checks Rock and Water weaknesses for Mega Steelix. Also felt I needed more status than 1 Scald and 1 Toxic user. Also works as great bait for Crobat and Vaporeon.[2] Knock off for Eviolite users and walls with healing items. Has also helped with Choice items and Life-Orb. Giga Drain for recovery. Sleep Powder and Leech Seed help with bulky Pokemon and set up Pokemon, forcing switches. Wide Lens doesn't help as much as I need, and I might switch back to Leftovers.[3]
Gravity (Steelix-Mega) @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Toxic
I needed a lead that could check physical attackers and help Venomoth sweep, also wanted something that could help with a general rock-type weakness I had. Chose him over Mega Aggron because Ground-type STAB has come in handy many times.[1] Leads in with Stealth Rock usually, can take any physical hit nobody else wants to, and can hit hard in return. Also forms a great team with Tangrowth and Vaporeon, who, combined, can switch in on almost anything Mega Steelix is weak to.[2] Heavy Slam and Earthquake deal a lot of damage, and I often use them to hit opposing leads and switch-ins hard, even resisted, they do a lot. Toxic, I use to hit any ground type that use Earthquake, or other physical set-up pokemon.[3]
