Hey smogon, we back!
So I feel like the OU tier has solidified a bit, and I decided to build a balanced team centered around my two favorite wallbreakers in the SM OU meta right now, Tapu Lele and Tapu Bulu!
TapuLatte (Tapu Lele) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Tapu Latte (Bc it looks like a coffee cup hahaaa) is, in my opinion the best pokemon in the tier right now, and I really saw no reason not to use it. I chose scarf over specs because without it, I really didn't have anything to outspeed major threats like pheramosa, megagross, koko, etc. Psychic/Moonblast are standard. Shadowball to hit mons like megagross, jirachi, opposing lele, etc. Hidden power fire for scizor/ferrothorn. I opted not to run thunderbolt because this team doesn't really struggle with bulky waters/celesteela. Max speed timid for, well, max speed, rest dumped into SpAtk.
DUNDABOL (Magnezone) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
The best steel trapper is here as one of the best partners to lele, getting rid of the few pokemon that can take hits from it as well as being pretty powerful, specially with max SpAtk specs. Very standard moveset, DUNDABOL for power and for hitting celesteela/waters/other flying types, volt for momentum, flash cannon for more damage/tapus/otehr fairies, HP fire for trapped steels.
Guillotine (Garchomp) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
Garchomp once again is such a freakin' good pokemon in OU. I'm running bulky as opposed to scarf/SD because I have enough psychical power and I need a solid defensive mon with rocks. Dragon claw/EQ for coverage. Fire blast for steels who think they can come in and get rid of my rocks (Skarmory). Again, pretty standard stuff.
Cacaw (Mantine) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Defog
- Scald
- Toxic
I originally had Tapu Fini in this spot, but then I discovered this gem. Unless it is a STAB thunderbolt, this thing eats EVERYTHING special. It is basically Tapu Fini with reliable recovery. Scald for the burn change as well as being a good attack in general. I've had a few moves in the last spot, (substitute, air slash) but I have stuck with toxic because that residual damage does really help the offensive 'mons on this team get more kills.
Crayola (Muk-Alola) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 248 HP / 100 Atk / 92 Def / 64 SpD / 4 Spe
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Poison Jab
- Shadow Sneak
I really needed a lele check as well as something for psychic types, so I chose Alolan Muk. This mon is incredibly good because it's coverage/STABS check so mnuch of the meta will all the tapus/ultra beasts running around. Knock/Jab as my main attacks (plus the major chance to poison is very nice) Pursuit is there for Lele on the switch out as well as other choiced/slow psychics that don't want to take a hit. Shadow Sneak is there to pick of weakened mons as well as being able to get off a little bit of chip if muk is about to die.
STR8 BOOLIN (Tapu Bulu) @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Wood Hammer
- Stone Edge
In addition to being my favorite nickname off all time, STR8 BOOLIN here is a beast. Unless you quad resist or have insane defensive investment, you are not taking a wood hammer. I honestly have no idea how this thing is so powerful. Horn leech is there for recovery in addition to grassy terrain and if I don't want to take recoil. Stone edge/superpower are there for coverage. Not much else, just click buttons and watch something die.
That's about it, let me know what you think and what I should change to make this team better! Thanks!
