Hello smogon! I've been a lurker for quite some time and finally decided to make a post about a team I've had some decent success with, but I brought it here to improve it further! I built this team around Entei because I feel that It's fairly underrated since it got a huge buff with Sacred Fire in XY, yet isn't really used. Anyways without further ado lets get into the team!
Teambuilding Process:
I started with a core of Diancie + Entei because building around Entei intrigued me.
I then added Breloom in order to deal with fat waters and grounds and sand.
I needed rocks and a decent ground immunity so Lando-T was added.
Having Entei as my main wallbreaker meant that some sort of hazard removal was necessary so Latios was added.
The team was very weak to faster threats and fairies at this point so Jirachi was added to patch these weaknesses.
In Depth:
Entei:
I chose to build around Entei because its a very underrated threat. I has access to Sacred fire which for all practical purposes is like a super Scald and is very strong. Another key thing that Entei has is access to Extreme Speed which allows it to come in and pick off weakened pokemon as well as sweep late game. Bulldoze is mainly to nail Heatran and Stone Edge adds a rock move which is just great coverage. Entei also has an amazing HP stat which allows it to take hits which can be clutch in some situations. Basically you want to get this thing in a position where it can spam its really good STAB move in Sacred Fire.
Wolves (Entei) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Bulldoze
- Stone Edge
Diancie:
I paired Entei with this monster because they actually do a lot as far as helping each other goes. Diancie is able to deal with the Fire types that entei has trouble with as well as making it difficult on the opponent to get rocks up which helps Entei's longevity a lot. Diancie has amazing offensive presence as it is an incredibly strong mixed attacker that can put pressure on any playstyle with ease. I chose to go with Earth Power because getting rid of Heatran is nice because it frees up Entei, but also losing the speed ties can be somewhat frustrating.
Ultra Light Beams (Diancie) @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Protect
- Earth Power
Breloom:
I decide to go with SD loom as my way of dealing with fat waters and grounds. It is an amazing mon as it has utility vs every playstyle. Spore+SD can break fat builds really easily while it's STAB Technician boosted Mach Punch is a major headache for offense, especially paired with a Banded E-Speed user to go along with it. I chose to go with Fist Plate because I wanted the extra power but didn't want to have the recoil from LO because this is here for the long haul against fatter teams.
Famous (Breloom) @ Fist Plate
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Spore
- Swords Dance
Landorus:
The team needed a solid rock setter and unsurprisingly Landorus was the choice. It's just extremely reliable and the Intimidate is really nice on offense in my experience as it allows things to set up, or take hits when they need to. I went with the Rocky Helmet variant since my team relies on priority and a rather weak scarfer for revenge killing so any chip damage is greatly appreciated. I went with the defensive set even on a more offensive team as it gives the team a somewhat reliable pivot to the usual offense killers such as Lopunny and Sand.
Waves (Landorus-Therian) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
Latios:
Latios is very common mon on offense right now due to it being able to fill so many roles at once while still keeping pressure on the opponent due to it's great wallbreaking abilities. I mostly went with Latios over Starmie as having a switch in to Keldeo is a necessity for any team as it can destroy your team otherwise. Also, Defog is crucial for this team as it is based around a pokemon that is weak to rocks. Recover is used because it gives it longevity as it forces a lot of switches and can keep itself healthy.
Feedback (Latios) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Recover
Jirachi:
This spot used to be occupied by Azumarill as it helped with the rain matchup, but left the team incredibly weak to Gengar, Altaria and such which are the overall greater threats so I added this guy as a way to patch up those issues. But, that isn't all this mon does. It provides crucial speed control, a switch in to Lati@s and another answer to fairies outside of Entei, which isn't exactly the most reliable.
FML (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Heart Stamp
- U-turn
- Healing Wish
Threats
Rain is a pretty hard matchup as it outspeeds every thing and specs scald basically body bags everything.
Thundurus is a major pain in the ass as it usually is for any offensive team.
