Compound Eyes Butterfree's accurate Sleep Powder complements Quiver Dance, making it quite the offensive threat. Although its average Speed and mediocre Special Attack makes Frosmoth seem like a better option in comparison, Butterfree does have a few tricks up its sleeve. Compound Eyes makes Sleep Powder and Hurricane far more threatening with very low chances of missing. Substitute takes advantage of Sleep Powder to provide Butterfree with an extra layer of protection, allowing it to safely use Quiver Dance multiple times. While its 4x weakness to Stealth Rock makes Heavy-Duty Boots seem better, Leftovers makes Butterfree much more consistent if your team has reliable entry hazard removal and prevention.

Butterfree is most effective late-game when a lot of the opposing team is weakened, and it can come in and set up with Quiver Dance to win. However, it is also tremendously threatening in the early-game, especially with Leftovers before Stealth Rock is up. It can set up on and beat common leads such as Rhydon and Galarian Stunfisk and open the way for teammates such as Rotom and Frosmoth. Using Butterfree early-game lets it cripple walls with Sleep Powder. Slow wallbreakers like Flapple, Centiskorch, and Alcremie appreciate Butterfree's Sleep Powder, allowing them to safely switch in. In return, Butterfree appreciates their damage making it much easier to KO bulky Pokemon such as Garbodor, Wishiwashi, and Ferroseed. Butterfree is very frail, and it struggles with Choice Scarf users such as Rotom, Silvally, and Sawk without a Substitute set up. It appreciates bulky teammates like Garbodor, Gurdurr, and Uxie, which can come in on opposing attacks, primarily priority attacks that Butterfree is very weak to. When using Leftovers, entry hazard removers like Altaria, Coalossal, and Articuno are needed in order to make sure Butterfree can get onto the field. Entry hazards set by Pokemon like Rhydon, Qwilfish, and Miltank wear down opposing Pokemon for Butterfree, making it easier to sweep.

Tinted Lens makes Butterfree very threatening but also much less reliable. If running Tinted Lens, Bug Buzz is far better than Hurricane, as Hurricane is likely to miss without Compound Eyes. Giga Drain provides Butterfree with recovery and lets it hit Rock-types, but it doesn't deal much damage and is less useful than Hurricane and Bug Buzz.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Priority**: Butterfree's low Defense stat makes it very vulnerable to being heavily damaged by incoming priority moves like Shiftry's Sucker Punch and Kangaskhan's Fake Out.

**Steel- and Rock-types**: Steel-types like Klinklang, Ferroseed, and Galarian Stunfisk and Rock-types such as Rhydon and Kabutops wall Butterfree's Hurricane and OHKO it. However, they struggle against Leftovers sets setting up multiple times with the combination of Substitute + Sleep Powder and being put to sleep in general.

**Electric-types**: Choice Scarf Electric-types like Rotom formes easily revenge kill Butterfree at +1, putting an end to its sweeping attempt. Bulkier Electric-types like Rotom-S can take care of Butterfree in a pinch, easily living a boosted hit.

**Choice Scarf Users**: Choice Scarf users like Sawk, Rotom, and Silvally exploit Butterfree's mediocre Speed and revenge kill it.

Not a QCer,
but I think Kingler, Lycanroc and Magneton are now banned in ZU.
In deed -> Indeed
Maybe bug buzz could be slashed with sub? It’s an additional stab attack and substitute can still be easily destroyed by a lot of attacks.

Butterfree’s Compound Eyes Buttefree's (use the ASCII (') apostrophes) access to near perfect accuracy accurate Sleep Powder to compliment complements Quiver Dance, (AC) make making it quite the offensive threat. Butterfree can become very threatening, very quickly with this combination of almost guaranteed sleep for the opponent opposing Pokemon and access to Quiver Dance. While Butterfree’s its 4x weakness to Stealth Rock makes Heavy Duty Boots Heavy-Duty Boots seem like the much better item choice; (comma to semicolon) Leftovers can make Butterfree much more consistent if your team has reliable hazard removal and prevention.

Tinted Lens makes Butterfree very threatening, but also much less reliable. If you are going to run Tinted Lens, Bug Buzz is far better than Hurricane, as Hurricane is likely to miss without Compound Eyes. Giga Drain can allow Butterfree recovery, but Butterfree needs to be able to dish out as much damage as possible, rather than try to recover some HP. Giga Drain can be used to hit Rock-types super effectively, however but Hurricane and Bug Buzz come in far more handy due to their STAB.
