First off, let me say that Nintendo has so far done one heck of a job to prevent me from pirating games. Not only do I love Nintendo games, I also love the cartridges they come in, and I've bought dozens of GBA games that I could have easily emulated, and what little emulation I've done has almost always lead me to purchase the software. I probably wouldn't have bought Pokemon Puzzle League if I hadn't played Tetris Attack with my keyboard first, and without ZSNES, I never would have known how awesome Final Fantasy VI is. (It's so awesome that I decided to pay $30 just so I could carry it around with me.)
However, with the advent of the DS, there are many games that are "novelty" by nature, and while I love the idea of screaming "OBJECTION" into my mic, it's not something I'd shell out $30 for before trying it out for free. However, the main reason I'm thinking of getting a flash cart is for imports. I have Elite Beat Agents and love it to death, it was worth every penny, but Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and its sequel could easily cost me $100, and for considerably less than that I could get a flash cart. Illegal? Probably (not too sure about Japanese copywrite restrictions). Unethical? Definitely not, in my book, since most of my money would be going to the shippers rather than the developers and manufacturer. However, you're under no obligation to help me if this goes against your ethical convictions.
That being said, I'm looking for something in the price range of $30-50 (my primary goal here was to save money), and all I really want is something that can reliably be used to play DS games. I'd also like something that interfaces with the computer easily and allows me to store and upload game save data (since I might be playing more than one game at a time). Support for GBA/GB ROMs is a plus, but not necessary. If I could also use it to play GBA/GB ROMs on my GBA, that would definitely be cool, but would probably affect DS compatability which is more important to me. Playing music files and all that is nice, but if it means sacrificing reliability or paying considerably extra, I'd rather not. I also use a DS phat, and I definitely don't want something so unstable it might brick it; ideally it shouldn't affect flashcartless play. I'm planning on doing some more research tomorrow (I'll post here with what I find), but I thought I'd come here and hopefully get some preliminary information from those who have experience on this subject.
