Buzzwole is a strong tank with the ability to check many of the physical attackers in the tier such as Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Meowscarada. Buzzwole sets itself apart from other physical walls with its high Attack stat and strong moves, allowing it to exert immediate pressure against the opposing team. Close Combat is Buzzwole's STAB move of choice, as its high Base Power is preferred over alternatives like Drain Punch against threats such as Scizor and Iron Hands. Earthquake is a solid coverage move that allows Buzzwole to threaten Iron Moth and Ceruledge, which would otherwise be able to switch in for free. The final moveslot offers a bit more flexibility, with Toxic being used the most in order to status common switch-ins such as Latios, Hippowdon, and Tangrowth. Alternatively, Thunder Punch can be utilized for more immediate pressure against Water- and Flying-types such as Tapu Fini and Enamorus. Finally, Bulk Up can be used on defensive teams to allow Buzzwole to act as a wincon. The Defense boosts can also help in one-on-one situations against other Attack-boosting threats such as Iron Hands. The Attack EVs ensure Buzzwole 2HKOs defensive Celesteela with Close Combat after Stealth Rock damage, while 112 Speed EVs allow Buzzwole to outspeed Adamant Tyranitar. This Speed benchmark is largely trivial, however, and can be adjusted to account for other specific threats such as Bisharp and Scizor. Buzzwole’s ability to switch into Ground- and Fighting-type moves is valued by Pokemon such as Iron Treads and Tyranitar, and its resistance to Bug and Dark is greatly appreciated by Psychic-types such as Mega Latias and Slowking. Due to its poor special bulk, Buzzwole can quickly be overwhelmed by strong special attackers and Future Sight. Therefore, it appreciates specially defensive teammates such as Blissey and Hippowdon. Physical wallbreakers are often paired with Future Sight support; therefore, Pokemon such as Celesteela and Mega Aggron can prove helpful because of their high Defense paired with a Psychic resistance. Pokemon that can cover Buzzwole's weaknesses to Flying, Fairy, Fire, and Psychic are also greatly appreciated. As such, Mega Latias, Clefable, and Tyranitar are natural partners.
