Hi!
I am new here at Smogon Forum and I registered to learn more about competitive pokemon with you all.
Down there is my humble team that is built around pokémon that I think it's great and I don't see him having the usage it deserves: Gastrodon.
The team has some flaws that I do not have experience to solve and that's why I'm posting here the RMT to ask you to help me improving my team.
I am now waiting for the next Smogon Tutors to find someone available to help me improving, but if anyone here knows how to build good teams and plays well and most importantly wants to teach Pokémon to someone please talk to me because I'm interested. Without further ado, I will introduce the team and build process.
Building Process
This is my choice of Pokémon to build the team. Gastrodon is so epic in countering Rotom-W, paraflinch Jirachi (if JiraHax doesn't hit me like 20 consecutive flinches, I'm okay) and is so anti-metagame and most importantly, anti Specs Hydro Pump spam in the rain that I decided to put him as my starting point. His role on the team will be as a Special Tank.
*
I needed a Physical Wall to help Gastrodon because he's weak to Physical moves. He's also frail to grass types, so why not adding Skarmory in the team? Despite being an excelent Physical Wall, he's good with grass types, scares them away with Brave Bird and his weakness to Electric is well covered by Gastrodon.
*
*
The defense of the team is acceptable, now I needed a sweeper. I didn't want to have a weather dependent one so I chosed Latios. He's powerfull and has good typing. With Psyshock he can hit in the Physical side too.
*

*
Well, the team had only Latios as a sweeper, steel types would laugh at me if Terrakion wasn't here. He's the stall breaker and the powerhouse of the team. He's supposed to enter safely and spam one of his STABs to unbalance the opponents defense.

Well, rain teams, despite gastrodon being in the team, were strong against me, so I decided to bring sand to the field. Hippo is my choice because he's a great physical wall and can bring SR out as well as phaze a little bit. Paired with skarmory they can set up the hazards and let me play a semi-stall role when my sweepers aren't enough.

I hate keldeo so much! Only latios could scare him and Subs+CM ones could give me trouble. This final guy is here to surprise with Clear Smog, Spore pokes that are troublesome and make my special defense duo complete.
On Detail
Gastrodon (Gastrodon-East) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Def / 172 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Earth Power
- Toxic
- Recover
This is a standard set for Gastrodon, it is good the way it is and there's no need to change anything. I prefered Ice Beam over toxic because I already have toxic in amoonguss and Ice Beam lets me hit hard flying types and most importantly, Dragons who thing they are protected to set up because they have a lum berry. Scald is the first STAB that allows me to burn some oponents and if they are Physical Sweepers awesome *.*
Earth Power is there as my stongest STAB. All those 3 attacks are usefull and combined with a Storm Drain +1 Sp.Atk make Gastrodon a difficult thing to swith w/o taking damage.
Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 224 HP / 252 Def / 32 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
My premier physical wall. It doesn't have whirlwind because I find Taunt important to not let ferrothorn do what he wants. Many of them enter on Gastrodon and I change to this birdie to Taunt them and gain some free turns to put Spikes on the field. Roost is for recovery and Brave Bird is here to hit when it is necessary.
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Roost
Roost Latios is somewhat uncommon but it does his funcion, Latios can stand on the field longer and SR damage won't be so effective because I can heal that damage. This way, Latios can enter in the field when I want and I don't need to be that cautious about his remaining HP. Draco Meteor is powerfull enough to 2HKO everyone that doesn't resist it. The ones who resist it or can tank it are threatned with Psyshock. HP fire works great against Scizor that comes to pursuit.
Terrakion @ Choice Band
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- X-Scissor
- Stone Edge
- Quick Attack
This guy is the responsable for late game sweeping and for opening holes in the opponent's team. He's so powerfull that I don't even need to think a lot when using him. Close Combat spam if there aren't ghosts, if there are some, Stone Edge for the predict. Terrakion can 2HKO anything that comes!
Quick Attack to deal with brelooms and scizors with less HP left and X-Scissor for coverage move.
Hippowdon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Fang
- Slack Off
I used to hate hippos in the zoo. They don't smell good and are ugly. But hippowdon made me love hippos! He's so bulky... I can take almost any Physical hit that doesn't hit him super-effective, and Roar is there to phaze away any thing that can come to put my Hippo in danger.
Slack Off because hippos are lazy and they need to recover health and SR to put the field the way I like it.
Amoonguss (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Spore
That marshmallow is the troller of the team. He enters, spores the poke on the field and goes away recovering his HP with regenerator.
When I think he can beat the sleeping opponent I choose let him stay to suck HP with Giga Drain.
Clear Smog is also for troll, he enters, tanks a hit from keldeo and takes away his CM's... Toxic is my option for Rotom-W and other kind of pokemon that my team handles well checking them but their partners are a priority to put sleeping.
Exportable
