By the Chariot of Helios [standard sunny day team RMT]

Wicked, so this is my sunny day team. When I make a themed team, I try not to over power it with pokemon that fit that theme, I try a more subtle approach.

THE TEAM BUILDING PROCESS:

I started with infernape, I haven't used him in forever and I just wanted to use him. I remembered that a while ago I wanted to make a sunny day team but never really succeeded with it. But one pokemon that stuck out to me was Cresselia.

Cress can wall with the best of them. It is bulky enough to lead and set up sunny day. It has access to moonlight as well which is boosted in the sun. Not to mention it covers napes ground weakness. After this, I figured, I need a Special Sweeper since I plan on using ape as a physical one. I started looking at who had chlorophyl and one of my favorites popped up. Shiftry.

Shiftry has access to nasty plot. Which makes him a force to bre reconned with. especially with Solarbeam as a killer STAB move. He is epic in the sun. Right now, I see that I have a few bug weaknesses, so I wanted to make sure I had that covered. I went with Weezing.

Weezing is a pretty cool dude. He has an ability to wall from the physical side of the spectrum. He can also hit back and deal massive damage to some threats like gyarados or mence or scizor. Scizor looks like he would do a lot of damage to this team and weezing can stop him cold. Now that I have weezing, I need a pokemon with a natural ability to take on special attacks. Naturally, lanturn came to mind.

Lanturn was a natural fit. I had 3 ground covers and 3 grass covers. He has a natural ablility, with his typing, to be a special wall. His two weaknesses are so heaviliy covered by the rest of the team so far, it seems like a match made in heaven. Lastly, I needed another pokemon that could set up sunny day, preferably something bulky to withstand a few hits... Spiritomb seemed like an excellent option.

Now Spiritomb was great because he doens't add anymore weaknesses to my team and helps with some key immunities. And he is bulky enough to set up sunny day and deal out some hits. So here is my team...

A CLOSER LOOK:

cresselia @ heat rock
bold
252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD
~Sunny Day
~Moonlight
~HP Fire
~ice beam

Here is my lead cress. I never see leadcress, and maybe it should be. The EVs are to take hits from both sides of the spectrum evenly. Now since this is my sunny day team, I gave him sunny day, duh. Along with moonlight for recovery, which is boosted in the sun. HP fire is for steel types (scizor, his main threat) mainly that are going to switch in thinking they are can will me. Ice beam is for mence and just basic coverage. My problem with cress is that he is walled by bulky waters, but that should be covered by Lanturn for the most part, and can be Countered by shiftry. For people who love love love stats... Choice band T-Tar's Crunch does about 65-77% damage which is shrugged off by moonlight.

infernape @ Choice Scarf
Jolly
6 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe
~Close Combat
~Fire Punch
~Stone Edge
~U-Turn

Infernape is crazy strong. I haven't used ape in a long time. And besides that... I have never used anything that wasn't specially based mixape. I don't know why, I just haven't. I wanted to make him a physical sweeper. And I wanted him to be able to revenge kill without a problem. So I have him choice scarf to have no problem getting a kill off. U-turn is obvious for scouting purposes. CC and fire punch (especially in the sun) are great STAB moves and stone edge is for extra coverage.

Shiftry @ Life Orb
Timid
6 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~nasty plot
~solar beam
~hp fire
~dark pulse

For the purpose of this team. I figured, shiftry is a great special sweeper. With his speed doubling in the sun, life orb was the natural choice. Nasty Plot on the switch. Solar Beam for massive STAB attack, this is going to fend off all those pesky water, rock and ground pokemon that will try and ruin my fun. HP fire is an obvious choice because of the sun. Dark Pulse is another great stab move to fend off phsycics trying to take out weezing and ape.

~Hydropump
~Chargebeam
~Ice beam

I know what all you guys are thinking right off the bat. WTF is this weird set you are running on lanturn. But hear me out. I needed a pokemon to absorb water attacks for the most part. Lanturn seemed like the best choice here for me. Now this particular set is a balanced wall. If you have noticed the only reason lanturn can wall special so well is because of its resistances and its massive HP. Its def however is not that much lower than Special Def. So the main idea is to come on something he can absorb easily, whether it be water or electic. Then you set up stockpile right off the bat. Now he is taking hits from both sides of the spectrum easily. If you can get in 2, you are in great shape. 3 if you can, but it isn't really needed. once this lanturn is bulky on both Defenses. It can deal out damage, charge beam will boost is special attack stat, while taking out water type pokemon. Hydro pump is just a massive stab move that is going to deal out lots of damage. Ice beam is extra coverage against dragon and ground types mainly trying to come in and spoil my day after my stockpile on their switch I should be able to deal out decent damage with ice beam.

Weezing @ Leftovers
Bold
252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpA
~tbolt
~fire blast
~hp ice
~explosion

Weezing is meant to just take in physical attacks and try and counter. Tbolt is for things like gyarados that are going to try and sweep my team. fire blast is for sun abuse and for steel types. Weezing is going to stop them right in their tracks. HP ice is for additional coverage. Explode when I am finished with him or find a threat not worth my trouble.

dpmfa442.png

Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Bold
252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpD
~Sunny Day
~Calm Mind
~Darkpulse
~Pain Split

Here is my second sunny setter. I opted out of heatrock to prolong sunny day because I don't count on losing cress early. Leftovers are for just standard staying power. CM to boost up. Dark pulse will be my main mode of attack, I thought over shadowball but that is walled by normal types. and Pain Split is for recover. I felt like I needed another pokemon to set up the sun and spiritomb felt like a great choice because he didn't add any weaknesses and was another pokemon that could take hits, and deal out pain.

Weakness and Resistance Chart:

Picture1-2.png

Concerns:
My main corncers for this team is that I have no dragon and rock resistances.

Heatran is going to be tough to deal with but is easily revenge killed by ape. Lanturn can deal with choice variants if locked into fire blast.

MixMence could also be an issue, I have packed my team with ice beam to deal with this though.

Please help me with a full rate and any concerns.

Why not drop Infernape for Blaziken and Cresselia for Uxie then make it a UU team? It'd work pretty decently there.

One of the most important factors of a Sunny Day team is to well, have Sunny Day up. Only two of your pokémon have Sunny Day, only one has a Heat Rock. Should Cress and Tomb be defeated, you have no more sun.

For Weezing, Fire Blast should be replaced with Sunny Day, since he already has a pseudo Bolt-Beam.

Exeggutor is a far more powerful special sweeper than Shiftry, just in case you might be thinking of replacing a poke.

Your team seems good, but more of your guys need to know Sunny Day.

I really think you should try fitting in more Sunny day abusers. Heatran is deadly in the sun. Overheat is capable of dealing crazy damage to most of counters. Even Gyarados will have a tough time against it. Blissey takes about 60% from it. Fire Blast is also very effective. The other pokemon you could try would be Tangrowth. A set such as SD would be pretty good for this team as it can't do much on the physical side. If you inclued it I would switch Nasty Plot for Explosion on Shiftry. You don't want too much set up since it wastes turns for sunny day.

Good Luck

Thanks, upon futher testing, I have decided this team needs more reconstruction. It does infact need more sunny day abusers to be extremely effective.

I have however confirmed this lanturn set is beast.
