Call Me Crazy

Call Me Crazy ~ A BW2 RMT by Matt Tuck

WOBBUFFET_by_Neslug.png

Hello there, I’m Matt Tuck. This is my first post on the forums and I’m posting a team which utilizes a UU pokemon which is not commonly seen in the OU tier. This certain pokemon has some major flaws including a crippling x4 weakness to Rocks and meager stats but I decided to use it anyway because that’s how I roll. The pokemon we are discussing here is Yanmega which is pretty underrated in OU but it seems to work just fine for me if you can play it to its advantage thanks to a great ability in Speed Boost which allows Yanmega to not only outspeed the entire metagame after about 2 boosts but also to sweep effortlessly late game. P.S. you can call me crazy for doing crazy stuff like using yanmega but i dont give a fuck :P

The Team:

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 76 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Superpower

We all know the sheer power CB Tyranitar brings to the table. Whenever I bring this in something will be taking massive amounts of damage. CB t-tar has a number of uses on my team. First of all it brings me sand which helps against team with opposing weather sweepers such as Venusaur under rain. CB tar also helps me break through stall teams with the sheer power of a CB stab move of my choice. Stone Edge is Tyranitar's main STAB move solely for its power; it is capable of OHKOing or 2HKOing those that lack a resistance to it and even some that do. Crunch is a more accurate move that lets Tyranitar make short work of Jellicent, Reuniclus, and Celebi. Pursuit gives Tyranitar the ability to trap and kill the frail Psychic- and Ghost-types that would rather not stay in on any of Tyranitar's attacks. Superpower brutalizes Steel-types and other Pokemon that resist its STAB moves. The given EV spread maximizes Tyranitar's power while giving it the ability to outpace uninvested base 70s. The remaining EVs are placed into HP to give Tyranitar more bulk.

Landorus-T @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 200 HP / 64 Atk / 244 Def
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-Turn
- Stone Edge

Landorus-T is the perfect physical wall sporting a great ability in Intimidate which allows him to further increase his defensive pressure on a physical attacker. This is my answer to most physical attackers which roam free this metagame including terrakion, breloom and garchomp. Landorus-T also has another important role on my team which is to set up stealth rock which is a necessity on every team. Stone Edge and Earthquake provide great coverage against most pokemons and u-turn allows me to scout as well as switch out on predicted threats who would come in on Landorus-T. 200 HP / 244 Defense allows Landorus-T to sponge two Choice Band Stone Edges from Terrakion, and also avoids the OHKO from its +2 Rock Gem Stone Edge. The remaining EVs and Adamant Nature give a high chance of OHKOing Dragonite with Stone Edge after Stealth Rock, and also give Landorus-T a legitimate offensive presence on the team. To give an idea of how much offense this Landorus-T packs, even with only 64 EVs and a beneficial nature, Landorus-T has 376 Attack, giving it power rivaling a fully invested Landorus or Gyarados.

Scizor @ Lum Berry
Trait: Technician
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Roost

SD Scizor is my set up sweeper and can easily sweep teams after a single swords dance boost once its counters have been removed. I really don’t need to tell you about this set as most of you have already been swept by it at least once in your battling experience. This variant is an all-out sweeper. With maximum investment in Attack, a Swords Dance and Technician, Bullet Punch can easily OHKO virtually all offensive threats in OU. Hippowdon is easily 2HKOed by Bug Bite, and Gliscor is 2HKOed by Bullet Punch, indicating this Scizor's ability to triumph over some of the bulkiest walls in the tier. Swords Dance—self-explanatory on this set—boosts Scizor's Attack to sky-high levels. Bullet Punch is Scizor's main move, bypassing its mediocre Speed to deal huge damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Superpower deals with the Steel-types that plague Scizor, allowing it to lure in and destroy powerful foes such as Heatran and Magnezone. After a boost, it also annihilates Skarmory, making switching into Scizor close to impossible. Finally, Bug Bite does huge damage to slower walls such as Hippowdon and Slowbro, 2HKOing and OHKOing, respectively, after a Swords Dance.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 136 HP / 64 Def / 56 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Recover
- Rapid Spin

Defensive Starmie is a perfect fit for my team for its ability to take Wtaer-type moves from rain teams and Recover the damage and spin. Defensive Starmie is for the team, helping my team against rain teams, Conkeldurr, Choice Band Terrakion, Keldeo and Gengar among others. Scald is the first move on the set which hits quite hard especially in rain and has a decent chance to burn the opponent. Psyshock provides a secondary stab and ensurance to strong Fighting-types like Breloom, Conkeldurr, Terrakion and Keldeo. Recover is an obvious move for recovery which combined with Starmies Hp investment and Water-type resist lets Starmie switch in against rain teams often to either Rapid Spin hazards or deal damage. Rapid Spin is the most important move on the set and gives my team safety against entry hazards so that Yanmega can come in without losing 50% of its health. Starmie can also take status quite well with Natural Cure which is a nice bonus. The current spread gives me decent physical bulk while allowing me to retain my speed and get hazards off the field asap.

Yanmega @ Life Orb
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Air Slash
- Bug Buzz
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Ground]

This is the MVP of the team. This thing hits extremely hard with a life orb boost and doesn’t need to worry about speed issues thanks to the boost from speed boost. Yanmega becomes truly terrifying after a few Speed boosts, as it has a great Special Attack stat to fire off its decent dual STAB moves. Protect allows Yanmega to scout for dangerous moves from unexpected opponents while also giving it a free Speed Boost. Bug Buzz is Yanmega's strongest attack against neutral targets, and hits the many Dark- and Psychic-type threats in the tier for super effective damage. Air Slash takes care of the popular Fighting-types in the tier such as Conkeldurr, and is Yanmega's second strongest STAB attack. Hidden Power Ground destroys non-Air Balloon Heatran and Magnezone. Yanmega is the epitome of late-game sweeping, as it is able to clean up weakened teams without a single thought. A Modest nature and maximum Special Attack EVs give Yanmega much-needed power to break through common foes. Maximum Speed EVs enable Yanmega to outrun the majority of Choice Scarf holders after a single boost.

tumblr_mi47uyKCzM1r3ifxzo1_500.gif

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Surf

Choice Scarf Keldeo in the rain is definitely one of the best cleaners and revenge killers. A scarf fixes it speed issues it has against terrakion and the lati twins. Once Jellicent, Rotom-W, Celebi, or whatever rain check that sand teams have is sufficiently worn down, Keldeo can simply sweep the opponents team. The only Choice Scarf users that Keldeo doesn't at least Speed-tie are Choice Scarf Latios and Latias, both of which are taken care of by Scizor fairly easily. Keldeo outpaces even Choice Band Stoutland. The other moves on Keldeo are used fairly rarely, but they do have their uses. Secret Sword provides me with a STAB Fighting-type move, and it's useful against Chansey, Blissey, and Tyranitar if I cannot afford a miss. Hidden Power Ice is pretty much solely for Dragon-types, as it's too weak to do any noteworthy damage to Celebi. Surf is used in those situations where you cannot afford to miss. Keldeo is also decent when it comes to checking rain teams as the boost to is water stabs helps it break though the bulkiest walls such as Jirachi.

Conclusion:

So I had a lot of fun making and using this team with the crazy idea of using yanmega but it actually works! Thanks for reading this RMT. I really hope you enjoyed my RMT. I'd really appreciate any tips or comments you guys have, and I'll promise to consider each and everyone one of them. Even if you don't have anything to say, leaving a Luvdisc is cool too! Thanks for reading!

Hi, and welcome to Smogon! I like the team, and the use of underrated threats is always great to explore.

The only thing I would change in your team is the choice of the Spinner; let me explain why. Defensive Starmie is awesome, and I like it a lot, however with that set in your team, you struggle to tank Hydro Pumps from SpecsToed or Specs (/+1) Keldeo in Rain. Toed deals a solid 75% minimum, which is scary since it's a 2HKO even after Recover (!); Keldeo OHKOs outright. Your other team members won't appreciate taking one, too, so the msot reasonable way to fix this problem is to change Starmie into a Tentacruel. Tentacruel can whitstand the massive damage Hydro Pumps can deal with higher HP and Special Defense stats; other than that, it's still able to deal with the threats you listed (and, for some of them, outclasses Starmie, for example you can't switch into a Band or Scarf Terrakion without fearing X-Scissors, while EQ is much more uncommon and can be scouted via Protect; another example is Conkeldurr, that can take a Psyshock and destroy Starmie with Payback). Rain Dish also helps, since Rain is omnipresent these days, and while Tentacruel does not sport reliable recovery, it almost makes up for that. Overall, while I can see why you like Starmie, it looks a good substitute and I think you should consider that, especially if you're experiencing troubles with the previously mentioned pokemons.

73.png

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge | Rain Dish
Bold | 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe
- Scald
- Ice Beam / Toxic Spikes
- Protect / Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin

The only other thing I'd consider is to run 104 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Spe on Tyranitar. It allows to outspeed and 2HKO Skarmory with Stone Edge; however, if that extra bulk is more valuable to you, and you don't have many troubles with Skarmory, that's understandable, although remember that ahving an extra occasion to remove a poke that basically wall Yanmega and can phaze away should be caught in my opinion, especially if the loss is quite small in return.

Hope I helped. Good luck.

He is 100% right about tentacruel, great call

I am going to second Ganj4LF's suggestion about changing T-tar's EV spreads, except, that I'm actually going to recommend to invest 112 EVs in Speed, and that is due to something that completely walls your team, Jellicent. Jellicent can come in on anything not named T-tar, scald any of your teammates, and it can just recover off any damage it takes. With your current EV Spread, invested jellicent will be able to outspeed your T-tar and burn it, therefore crippling it. With the 112 Speed EVs, you'll always be able to outspeed Jellicent's that even put a little more speed in for some speed creeping, along with being able to outspeed other banded t-tar's that run your suggested spread, or the 104 speed set, or very rarely, the speed creeping 108 set.

Next, I would like to suggest to replace Hidden Power Ground on Yanmega with U-turn. The reason for this is because your team is already catered to taking on the steel types that resist your yanmega's dual stab. With u-turn, you can come in on something, protect for the +1 speed, take it out, and then if you are faced with something that you don't think you can take out, then you can just u-turn out of there. A place I think that this would particularly come in handy against would be focus sash Alakazam, who if you do take the change to Tentacruel, can easily do very large amounts of damage to your team, provided Landorus-T and Scizor are dead (Those are the only ones capable of living a hit from alakazam), and with having U-turn, you can protect on whatever, get the +1 speed, and then U-turn out into something that you have a more favorable matchup against. This also gives you a nice momentum core with Landorus-T, allowing either of you to U-turn out into the appropriate mon.

That's all the changes I can see for this team, good luck with the changes I've suggested.

Hi there.
First I totally agree with Ganj4lF, you have nothing to Keldeo Spec and Toed spec but you have nothing too against the Rain teams, even if you possess Starmie, you are disadvantage, because it is not very strong even with the Bulky distribution, then it cannot do much damage with scald and psyshock, Keldeo can take advantage of the rain but generally a rain team properly build can counter Keldeo with Tentacruel/Dragonite/Çelebi..., then as Ganj4lF I suggest you Tentacruel Physical defensive, Tentacruel is better than Starmie in your team, it can easily counter Keldeo and Politoed under rain with his ability (Rain dish), but it is also a good pokemon because I noticed that in your team you have Yanmega, but it has a weakness x 4 against the Stealth Rocks then it loses 50%, the priority is to use Rapid spinn easily but with Starmie you can easily be trapped with Scizor/Tyranitar if scald can't burn, Tentacruel can resist against Pursuit then it can counter easily the Ghost types such as Jellicent, because Tentacruel has Toxic.

But now I see a big weakness against Rotom-W, the opponent can spamm with Volt switch because you have nothing to come, Tyranitar can take a Will-O-Wisp and it is very disadvantaged against Hydropump because it is Bander and Landorus-T also, and even if you choose to weaken him you'll be disadvantage because Rotom-W has Paint Split to heal, I suggest you Celebi@Baton pass and Hidden Power Ice on Scizor, I explain you: Celebi can come easily to Rotom-W but I chose Celebi for another reason, I noticed that you were also very disadvantaged against Landorus@Sheer Force and your only Revenge kill for Landorus is Keldeo, but you have nothing to rotate with him because Tyranitar is OHKO by Focus Blast, Landorus-T is OHKO by Hidden Power Ice, Starmie is OHKO by Earth Power, and Scizor is 2HKO by Earth Power but it cannot kill Landorus with Bullet Punch, so you are forced to let a pokemon die to come with Keldeo, and generally Landorus@Sheer Force has Rock polish, if the opponent correctly anticipate you are going to lose the game easily because Keldeo cannot outspeed him. I chose Hidden power ice for Gliscor SubToxic which can be dangerous, and with Baton pass you can avoid pursuit from Tyranitar/Scizor.

Then I suggest you swap Hidden Power Ice with Hidden Power Electric is Keldeo because you are very disadvantaged against Gyarados DD, you have nothing to come on him and kill him, now you can tank waterfall and kill him because you outspeed him after a Dragon Dance.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 208 SDef / 48 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Baton Pass
- Recover

(Tentacruel) (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Toxic
- Rapid Spin

Tl;dr
Scizor--->Celebi
Starmie--->Tentacruel
Keldeo--->Hidden Power Electric

Hope I Helped and Good Luck with your Team.
