[SET COMMENTS]
Calm Mind Hatterene finds its use as a defensive setup sweeper for Fairy teams in the mid- and late-game. Calm Mind allows it to become a more potent sweeper, allowing it to take on Pokemon such as Duraludon and Rotom-H while being able to tank attacks from Pokemon such as Charizard more easily. Psychic allows it to target Poison-type Pokemon such as Galarian Weezing and Toxapex while also being a powerful STAB move so Hatterene can take on Pokemon such as Charizard. Draining Kiss allows Hatterene to apply offensive pressure while being able to heal itself, letting it more easily take advantage of its Calm Mind boosts. Mystical Fire targets Steel-type Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Corviknight after enough boosts. Alternatively, Trick Room takes advantage of Hatterene's low Speed and impressive bulk after a Calm Mind, making it harder to revenge kill for faster threats such as Gengar, Dracovish, and Charizard. Magic Bounce allows it to bounce back entry hazards from setters such as Hippowdon, Toxapex, and Galvantula while preventing it from being statused by moves such as Thunder Wave and Toxic. Its EVs and a Bold nature maximize its physical bulk, making Hatterene more potent and harder to revenge kill after a few Calm Mind boosts. A Relaxed nature should be used on Trick Room sets. Leftovers is another form of recovery for Hatterene alongside Draining Kiss that allows it to stay healthy through the match.
All of its teammates appreciate its ability to keep the field clear of entry hazards, namely Toxic Spikes, especially those weak to Stealth Rock such as Alolan Ninetales and Togekiss. In return, Alolan Ninetales can set up Aurora Veil, clearing a path for Hatterene to set up with Calm Mind. Togekiss can help wear down Pokemon such as Incineroar and Snorlax with the combination of Nasty Plot and Air Slash for Hatterene. Choice Scarf Gardevoir can take on a handful of Pokemon for Hatterene outside of Trick Room such as Choice Specs Dragapult, Venusaur, and Dracovish, as well as giving it a second chance to sweep via Healing Wish. Gardevoir appreciates Hatterene's ability to take on Poison-type Pokemon, taking some pressure off it. Grimmsnarl and Mimikyu appreciate Hatterene's ability to take on physical walls such as Toxapex and Avalugg, and, in return, they can break past some of Hatterene's checks such as Jirachi and Gengar. Clefable can set up Stealth Rock for Hatterene, allowing it to better take on Charizard and Cloyster. Clefable can also run an offensive Stealth Rock set with Moonblast, Thunderbolt, and Flamethrower that allows it to take on Pokemon such as Mantine, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn. If Clefable does run Flamethrower, it can free up room for Hatterene to run Trick Room instead of Mystical Fire. Primarina can take on Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Cinderace and Excadrill. It can also form a potent Calm Mind core with Hatterene. Primarina can fish for Scald burns, allowing both of them to take on physical attackers with more ease and be more effective Calm Mind sweepers.
