[SET COMMENTS]
With access to Calm Mind and a stellar base 137 Special Attack, Raging Bolt is able to act as an excellent bulky setup sweeper. Raging Bolt’s good typing allows it to break through defensive Pokemkn like Corviknight and bulky Water-types like Alomomola, Toxapex, and Rotom-W while also checking threats like Rillaboom, Ogerpon-W, and Kartana. Thunderclap offsets Raging Bolt’s subpar Speed stat, allowing it to revenge kill offensive threats such as Urshifu-R, Ogerpon-W, and Mega Lopunny as well as weakened setup sweepers like Iron Boulder, Volcarona, and Swords Dance Kartana, while Thunderbolt gives Raging Bolt a consistent damaging attack that doesn’t rely on prediction like Thunderclap and has significantly higher PP, allowing Raging Bolt to use its Electric-type moves in longer games. Substitute is an alternative to nullify passive Pokémon that can’t touch Raging Bolt such as Rotom-W, Ferrothorn, and Zapdos and give it more opportunities to set up, while Taunt can be used to deny setup from Garganacl and Mega Scizor but at the cost of a worse matchup against Galarian Slowking. Draco Meteor in tandem with Dragonium Z lets it break through Electric-immune Pokemon such as Gliscor, Clodsire, and Ting-Lu as well as other specially bulky Pokémon that can take on Raging Bolt such as Mega Tyranitar and Galarian Slowking. Alternatively, Leftovers is also an option on Substitute sets to passively heal the chip taken from Substitute and give Raging Bolt some form of recovery. Tera Flying grants Raging Bolt a Ground immunity while giving a Fighting resistance that helps against Great Tusk and Zamazenta while also avoiding any Ground-type coverage from Serperior. Tera Fairy gives this same Fighting resistance while giving Raging Bolt an immunity to Dragon-type moves from the likes of Garchomp and Gouging Fire. The EV spread allows Raging Bolt to live a Choice Scarf Landorus-T Earthquake from full HP and have a chance to OHKO Mega Tyranitar after Stealth Rock; the EVs also give a chance to OHKO Galarian Slowking with a boosted Devastating Drake as well as OHKO Iron Valiant with a boosted Thunderclap after Stealth Rock chip. Raging Bolt struggles against fast Ground- and Fairy-types like Garchomp, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Great Tusk, Tapu Koko, Iron Valiant, and especially Tapu Lele; Tapu Lele in particular can give Raging Bolt some trouble as well, as its Psychic Surge renders Thunderclap useless. Teammates like Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, Rillaboom, and Galarian Slowking help beat these checks. Since Raging Bolt has no reliable recovery, Alomomola is a good partner to pass huge HP wishes to it and pivot it in. Other pivots like Tornadus-T, Mega Scizor, and Landorus-T also help bring Raging Bolt in safely. Teammates like Great Tusk and Zamazenta appreciate Raging Bolt taking care of Flying-types like Tornadus-T and Zapdos as well as bulky Waters like Rotom-W and Alomomola. In return, they help check Ferrothorn and Weavile. Great Tusk is another good partner, because it helps remove entry hazards, which harm Raging Bolt greatly, particularly Spikes.
