ORAS UU Calm Mind Reuni Balance

I am still relatively New to the building process and after testing I still see flaws in the team but this has by far by the most thought process I have put into a team. I built the team around def calm mind reuniclus who has who my quite a few games already by himself because my opp didnt have a team that could break it or I broke their checks first

Step 1
Reuniclus @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
I started by thinking about what are things in the tier that stop reuni and a few things came to mind
Mega Beedrill
Hydreigon
Krookodile
Chandelure
Crawdaunt
Whimsicott
Opposing Psychics(espeon, Cres,reuni etc)
Hard hitting special wall breakers(Nidos,Dragalge, specs Kyurem etc)
So I needed somethings to pair with him to alleviate those weaknesses
Step 2
Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- U-turn
- Fire Blast
Hydreigon resist both the Ghost and Dark mons who threaten reuni and can eliminate them to open the door for reuni to sweep late game. I decided to go with scarf over specs or life orb because the team lacked speed and I wanted to have something that could outspeed gator, haxorous, and Gyarados at +1 and be able to revenge kill them. Also Hydreigons fighiting weakness is covered by reuni and he is a ground Immunity.

After Testing Hydreigon was just too weak and while it could eliminate possible reuni checks I decided to try out mega Houndoom in its place but he also underwhelmed. The mon I finally decided on keeping was Mega Absol. He keeps hazard stacking at bay while also giving me a way to beat reunis Hard wall (sableye) he also serves as a backup win con with SD.
Absol-Mega @ Absolite
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough
Step 3
Zapdos Leftovers
Ability Pressure
Evs: 248Hp/ 28 SPD/ 152 Def/ 80 spe Def Calm Nature
-Volt Switch Thunderbolt
-Roost
-Defog
-Toxic
I noticed I had a bug weakness and Mega beedrill just running through my team came to mind So I decided I would go with Zapdos. He can take Dracos and dark pulses from opposing Hydros and stall them out while also giving another ground immunity and an ability to take special and Physical hits reasonable will. I also needed a way to remove Hazards.
Step 4
Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock Knock Off
Mamo was the wall breaker this team desperately lacked. It tears holes into most balance teams while priority ice shard can do good damage to many big offensive threats. I decided to go with dual stabs and stealth rock Knock off for my final move. Mamo also gives me an ice resist(which I dont plan on switching into very much unless its weaker, non stab ice predictions)
Step 5
Beedrill-Mega @ Beedrillite
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature
- Poison Jab
- U-turn
- Protect
- Drill Run
I decided to go with Beedrill as my mega because it gave me not only another wall breaker but some much needed speed. Jolly Nature to outspeed +1 Gator and scarf Chandelure and Gardevior as well as speed tie with mega sceptile. Drill run over knock off to have something to hit Cobalion if its weakened enough and punish Lucarios for trying to set up
Because of the addition of mega Absol I had to get rid of the bee but Absol still does a good job of breaking down opposing psychics and ghost types and +2 Play Rough bops the dark types. I needed a pivot in this spot so I went with a recommendation and added Coballion. I went with Shuca berry to live ground attacks and respond accordingly
Cobalion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Def / 64 SpD / 192 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sacred Sword
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Volt Switch

Step 6
Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD Bold Nature
- Scald
- Wish
- Baton Pass
- heal bell Roar
I went with Vaporeon as the last mon to give another ice resist as well a cleric to heal my other pokemon. Baton pass allows for safe wish passes as well as gaining momentum. Added Roar over heal bell because Vaporeon is set up fodder to alot of the tier lol

The team has only lost 2 times in 25 games and one was to double tri attack freezes so I am happy with the beginning stages of the team but I am not satisfied just yet. I have only played 1 Crawdaunt and it swept me once everything got low, and I havent played a beedrill yet. Any criticism or help would be appreciated

Sup, the team looks decent right now. I like your teambuilding process of building around Reuniclus and what threatens it. With the right support Reuniclus becomes a terror to face, even when opponent's are packing Dark types. I do have some possible suggestions to help you out, particularly with the notable Knock Off and Beedrill weaknesses. So, time for the rate!

Scarf Hydreigon is a good partner to Reuni, but while it handles the tier's offensive Ghosts and Darks decently, it is a poor Knock Off switch in due to no recovery, and dies to Beedrill. Bulky SR Cobalion over Hydreigon deals with Knock Off spam, Beedrill, while also providing pivot support and blanket checking a lot, such as Hydreigon which could otherwise threaten you if carrying Taunt. Here is the set:

Cobalion @ Leftovers/Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Def / 64 SpD / 192 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Sacred Sword
- Volt Switch

It has enough speed to outpace Mence and cripple it or Volt Switch out (also deals nice damage to Gyara), enough bulk to survive Fire Blasts from special Dragons, Sacred Sword is to still be able to beat Snorlax, and Rocks to alleviate passivity issues and let it do stuff when they have hard counters. You can also opt for Shuca Berry since Vaporeon an Wishpass to Cobalion if you want a better Mamo/Krook check, but it gets worn down easier if you aren't able to. T-Wave acts as our team's speed control with Scarf Hydra gone.

Sableye is the best Reuniclus answer in the tier, and this team is looking very weak to it right now. Mega Houndoom over Mega Beedrill fixes this issue, as it hard counters any Sableye set and retains the special wallbreaking prowess Hydreigon gave us. We also receive a secondary wincon against over prepared teams for Reuniclus and another Chandelure check. Here is the set:

Houndoom @ Houndoominite
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Taunt/Protect

Now for some set tweaks:

  • 473.png
With SR on Cobalion, we have room to run Knock Off over Stealth Rock on Mamo. I'm sure you know the amazing utility Knock Off provides, so I won't explain what it does.
  • 145.png
Zapdos doesn't need that much SpD now that Cobalion can sponge Dracos. A spread of 248 HP / 152 Def / 28 SpD / 80 Spe can be used to avoid the 2HKO from Modest Sceptile's Dragon Pulse, which is gaining a lot of popularity now, creeping Adamant Gatr, and maximizing Physical bulk to check stuff like Sharpedo and Krookodile softly.
  • Thunderbolt over Volt Switch is a must since you don't want to be forced out 1v1 against Gyara, and the lack of immediate power means stuff like Emp can stay in and Rock up or Defog on Zapdos relatively easily
  • HP Ice over Toxic is a possibility to be able to hit Krookodile, Nidos, and Mega Sceptile immediately, although you could Toxic them all (except Nido) and Roost spam. This isn't really a necessary change, but one to consider.
  • 134.png
Roar over Heal Bell to avoid being set up fodder for DDers, opposing Reuni, etc, although this makes you much more susceptible to Toxic and Sacred Fire. You could remove Baton Pass for Roar, or just keep your current moveset

GL with the team and I hope I helped!

Thanks for the suggestions. After testing I really do like the addition of Cobalion as a rocker and a pivot and Knock off has given me something to hit Rotom heat with on Mamo. I wasnt feeling mega doom after testing and he also adds to my rock weakness, Absol has been a good sableye check
