Can a team do without a special sweeper this gen?

It seems that there is less need for a physical sweeper. I makes the opponents blissey useless and it seems ok as long as you can beat skarmory. Any thoughts?

Doubt it. I think it's still good to have a good special sweeper since that fat blob will go down at one point. And after that, a fast special sweeper tends to have a clear field.

I was wondering would a team like garchomp, brozong, gyrados, swampert, gliscor, and heracross work?

I think CBGyara can also work wonders against Rhyperior, as it can outspeed it for the 2HKO, making sure that it never switches in.

My team is all physical, but 2 of my sweepers have a special move to deal with Skarmory. I also use Mixpert to be my Stealth rocker and take down Rhyperior with a powerful surf.

I wouldn't call one "necessary" but there's so many physical threats out there that are already almost impossible to deal with, a heavy Special hitter is certainly a welcome addition to any team. You have people packing all sorts of physically defensive pokemon to help combat Heracross, Rhyperior, T-Tar, and so on.

When it comes to tanking Special hits, most people only have a pokemon or two on their team to eat Special attacks in general (namely Cresselia or Blissey) and are generally much stronger physically than specially. If you can wear their "general Special wall" down then you typically have free reign over the rest of their team, and Special sweepers that can kill the walls by themselves (like Porygon-Z or Togekiss) are especially dangerous. Most people make sure they can deal with Specsmence, but that's about it.

I think you CAN get away with only physical and mixed sweepers. For instance, you can use 2 pure physical pogeys (Lets say Gyarados and Rhyperior, for example's sake). Then you toss in a few mix pokes. Mixape, Electivire and Kingdra allow for remarkably good coverage on both spectrums. Kingdra for example can Rain Dance/Waterfall/Return/Surf (Or Dragon Pulse, Draco Meteor, Ice Beam instead of Return or Surf). We all know how Mixape and Electivire work. Then the last one can be whichever you need, I'd think a cleric of sorts could work. That SHOULD work and be hard to wall. Kingdra and Mixape could take down Rhyperior, Electivire and Mixape have no problems taking down Skarms, Steelix doesn't like Kingdra and Mixape, nor does it like Electivire's quakes, same for any other steel/rock/ground wall.
So while a team does not NEED a special attacker, having a few mixed attackers is the least one should carry to cope with any high defensive poke.

It's not really required. Most of the time I don't even get to my "Special Sweeper" who's primary function isn't even to sweep (it's to set up my physical sweepers).
