CAP Teambuilding Competition!!
Approved by Sparktrain, Thread taken over from Sparktrain also
Hey there, and welcome to the second edition of the CAP teambuilding thread! This competition was designed to see how great CAP players go around doing their teambuilding, especially around a certain core. However, it is also a fun way to learn and experiment with new and interesting combinations of Pokemon, along with some friendly competition! Any discussion about the teams presented is highly encouraged and you don't have to post a team to be a great help to this thread! All you have to do is look at what team you like the best and put your opinion across! Sometimes this can be more important than submitting, so give us lots of feedback! We appreciate it!

Every round we have will last for 1.5 (or so) weeks which are divided into sections of 1 week. At the start of Week 1, I will post a core or Pokemon that you will be required to build around, this will always be displayed here for convenience. If you chose to take part in this round, you will need to build a team around this core. You have one week to make, test, and preferably provide replays for this team. You MUST complete this by the deadline stated under the core of that round. If you do not, your team will not be included, no-matter-what. You will then need to PM me the team, with a brief description (2 Paragraphs at most, any more and I will cut it to just the first 2 Paragraphs). If you do not wish to participate in making a team, Week 1 does not concern you. At the start of Week 2, I will shut the submissions and post the teams that will be judged. This marks the start of the voting period. The voting period will be 2 to 3 days, depending on how many votes we receive. You will then cast a vote for your favorite team and you may only vote once. At the end of this, the winner will be announced and will be placed in the Hall of Fame which will be posted under this post. Then the process will repeat.

Rules and Information

  • All team submissions must contain the given core for the current week, it must be a full team of six Pokemon, and must be legal in the CAP format. Team submissions that do not follow these guidelines will be disqualified.
  • Team submissions must be done via PM, so don't post your teams in this thread! This rule is in place to ensure anonymity during the voting phase, which should help to prevent bias or bandwagoning. To submit a team, send me (Bionic Puppy) a PM entitled CAP Teambuilding Competition round [X]. The explanation of the team should be no more than 2 paragraphs in length. YYou must add at least 2 replays to your PM! Make sure to add "Krillobae" to your PMs or you will be asked to read this whole post again! The team should be submitted in the format shown below: six sprites, your explanation in a hide tag, and the importable in a hide tag (credit for the team goes to Tokyo Tom)

This is a team I made originally for the Mawilite Suspect Ladder, revolving around Mienshao to scout items and beat common leads at the time (such as SashMamo, Breloom, SashChomp, or SR setters like Landorus-T and Ferro etc.), and Charizard-X which is probably the most broken Mega left in XY OU. HP Ice Mienshao and EQ Latios pushed significant damage on DD Zard-X's premier counters, Landorus-T and Heatran, opening the way for Zard-X to potentially sweep lategame. Additionally, the core of Mienshao / SpexKou / ScarfLando-T offered a fast VoltTurn chain that could easily break down the opponents checks with very little prediction and Stealth Rock support from one of the sturdiest SR setters in the game, Ferrothorn. The concept began as a fun team but the team did see some success as Ben Gay used it to peak #1 on the Mawilite Suspect Ladder, and was one of the teams he used to peak #1 more recently on the actual OU ladder, during the first cycle of the Smogon Ladder Tournament. Overall, a neat little offensive team focused on luring threats and keeping momentum to wear down the opponent, opening them up for almost any of the Pokemon to clean up lategame.

Discussed Pokemon:

Grey Areas!!

CAP as a metagame I find is very unexplored, and this is due to a variety of things, but what I think will help is this:
You have to build your team around AT LEAST 1 CAPmon and 1 Normal mon who's Moves and EV's are different than stated in their CAP-made (or if there isn't one, OU-made) analysis, you must sate why these Moves and EV's are different and how it benefits your team!

Get your teams in by the 20/05/2016!!
Good Luck!

Bumping because I've delayed the date to allow the first one to last a week and a half to get momentum up. Remember that this has changed to Regular Argonaught since Bulk Up was a bad idea on my part.

Keep those submissions going! If you want some tips, Argh struggles against a lot of pokemon that Steel types work well against and visa versa, along with this, Volt-Turn can cause a big issue, so a ground type comes in really useful!

OK. Round 1 is up! We have 2 teams!

]

Argh was running a set based around attacking and bulky offense with the use of Toxic to wear down Pokemon such as BulkyChomp, helping the partners, none of which appreciate Garchomp. Sylveon was a Tomohawk switchin and Cleric and a devastating Fairy-Type STAB. It is also a nice Blanket check to a lot of pokemon, most notably, Mega Diancie and Colossoil. Mega Metagross has a great defensive typing for the team at hand but also works offensively. It has Substitute as a clever way to get past Colossoil and it fits the playstyle better. Colossoil was just a check to special attacks and Dark, electric and Ghost types especially. Its another Blanket check for hazards along with Hazard Removal and Speed Control with Rapid Spin and Sucker Punch Respectively. Rotom-Wash was a great partner for colo, a birdspam check and the Pivo tthat this team needs to check so many things. Molux rounds it off by giving it a more reliable awnser to grass and faries and has a Scarf Eruption which hurts anything

Obviously starting the team with Arghonaut since it is the main focus for this week. I added Talonflame as it deals with Arghonaut checks and counters pretty well like Alakazam, Tomohawk, and Aurumoth. Stunfisk was added since the team was extremely weak to Electric-types and I wanted a flying resist. It also provides a check to Cawmadore as well which is extremely beneficial. I wanted Latios to smack Dragon-types like Cyclohm and Garchomp. It is also my hazard remover in case I need it. Cawmadore works pretty well in this position since a lot of my team members can get rid of what stops it from sweeping. Finally I added Mega Venusaur since Water-types looked awfully annoying and I haven't used my Mega Slot yet.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/cap-357712605 - Not really a good replay but demonstrates a really cool way Stunfisk sets up Cawmadore

Cast your votes with simply either saying Team 1 or Team 2 in the comments! Discussion is highly encouraged and is great for the teams! Even after the cool-down period between each Teambuilding entry, its really nice to get the makers Comments! So Tell me, what do you think?

Talk about playing it safe lol. The team looks like the builder just took the sample team and decided to use Arghonaut over Haze Tomohawk while changing up coverage on two mons. Even if it wasn't a direct steal its still shows a lack of creativity when you consider the amount of exposure the sample team has seen. Sorry Khosro :(

Team 2 looked a lot better save for the Stunfisk. Garchomp is a completely viable Pokemon that fulfills the role of Electric check, Flying check, and Stealth Rock setter with the added bonus of not being well, Stunfisk. Mega Venusaur is a pretty good Electric check itself and to an extent so is Latios so you could have used something like Hippowdon as well. I guess it helps against Tornadus-T which would otherwise ravage the team, but you're still going to have some trouble with Mega Metagross as nothing is able to switch into the Hammer Arm set reliably. A+ on creativity though.

I have to go with Team 2 solely because it wasn't a direct rip off of an already established team.

Team 1: Good overall team structure. The Mega Metagross set sorta confuses me though; running Substitute over Bullet Punch makes the team even weaker to DD Mega Altaria and simultaneously detracts from Arghonaut's niche on the team, since it takes on opposing colo/sharp without a problem. The team also bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the most heavily spammed sample teams of 2015 (remember this?). The replays left me unconvinced, as there was only one serious replay included, in which Arghonaut accomplishes virtually nothing (used Toxic on CroCune turn 14), compared to Team 2 which has two serious replays where Arghonaut actually does things.

Team 2: Decent team structure as well, but I'm not a fan of the Stunfisk. I think mixed wall Hippo would suit the team much better, fulfilling pretty much the exact same role while being able to keep itself alive with Slack Off. It can't check a +6 Caw, but the team is loaded with HP Fire and a really solid check in Talonflame, so I wouldn't be too worried about that.

In terms of originality, overall effectiveness, and showcasing Arghonaut, Team 2 easily gets my vote.

Round 1 is finished! There were 2 teams that entered, and Take Azelfie came on top! Well done to you! You have been entered to the hall of fame!

Singin in the Rain!

Our next challenge is to make a rain team! This team requires having a Rain setter, and a minimum of one rain abuser! Send your teams to me via PM by 30/4/2016
Good luck!

Change! You may now submit a CAP replay, even if it isn't a Ladder game!

Teams for Round 1 are up!

I have temporarily removed the rules about a separate alt! This may be subject to change but for now less and less people are reading the rules. Please be kind to me and read the rules thoroughly, it would make my life so much easier

rant over!
It's rain, what is there to really say? Obviously started by using Politoed. Encore and Toxic are cool. Went with a more modern rain, Mega Lopunny build instead of the standard mega swampert to be different. Instead of the tradition two swift swimmer and a rain abuser, went for one swift swimmer and two abusers. The two abusers being Mollux and Tornadus-Therain. Scarf Mollux is scarf Mollux. Tornadus-Therian is godly, still went with a AV variant over LO because tanking hits is hit nice. Kitsunoh is a good utility in the rain, spreading burns blah blah defogging and etc. The pokemon that really shines on the team is Omastar. Specs Omastar hits like a truck and very few things switch into it. Oh also Kitsunoh and Tornadus-Therian make a nice u turn core. Thats pretty much it. Pledge Kappa Alpha.

Politoed is a staple for any rain team with its ability Drizzle instantly making it a great setter. With Damp Rock it allows rain to stay out for 8 turns which allows a multitude of things to happen. One of which is the standard Mega Swampert Swift Swim. With Swift swim Mega Swampert is able to succesfully out Speed and make quick of any Defensive poor Pokemon. Choice Scarf Volcanion gets a super powerful STAB while in rain making use of Steam Eruption. Rotom-Wash is able to switch in on SpA oriented Pokemon and get off a powerful Hydro Pump STAB while cripling physical attackers with Will-o-Wisp. Cawmodore can switch in on Electric attacks and while in rain can take a couple Fire attacks. Krillowatt is used as a pivot. It is a HP monster eating a ton of attacks and simply shaking them off.

Team 1

So I like Team 1 better than Team 2 because it uses Politoed much better. 4 offensive attacks are not necessary. Additionally, Choice Scarf Volcanion really should be Life Orb on Team 2, as Choice Scarf doesn't capitalize on Volcanion's coverage by locking it into a move. Choice Scarf is just better done with Volkraken. Also, Krilowatt has Assault Vest and Trace, which doesn't capitalize on Krilowatt's strengths. Also Team 1 has AV Torn-T.

The only thing I can say about Team 1 to improve it is to run Superpower or Focus Blast over Heat Wave on Torn-T because Heat Wave is weakened in Rain.

Team 1

I really like the idea of running Mega Lopunny is CAP rain (speed is more important otherwise I would say sue Medicham) as it helps to break Ferrothorn and Chansey. Team 1 also synergizes a lot better where as team 2 is just a bunch of water-type Pokemon + Cawmadore. Team 2 also has some awkward sets with 4 attacks Politoed and AV Krill.

Team 1, Omastar is always fun. I'd run Life Orb over Specs myself to better get around the additional Water-type immunities in CAP, but Specs is still good.

av krilowatt lol

Update! Something has changed in the rules and I recommend you reading them again, otherwise, you will not be able to submit a team! Just read the rules guys, seriously, it makes life so much easier on me!

Well done to Frat Dude for winning by an overwhelming majority Your team has been added to the Hall Of Fame! Tell us about any added resposes to comments if you want!

In the meantime, from today (8/05/2016) until 16/05/2016, our next teambuilding theme will be...
