At one point when the metagame first started I was going on a 10-15 win streak with this team, which is pretty good for me since I'm new to competitive battling. I've begun building this team on Pokemon Y, but lately I've had a lot of issues with it on PS!, and hoped you guys could help me out with refining it so I dont go through a ton of in-game work for nothing.
I think my biggest problem is Excadrill, as it always comes down to trying to use him to take out late game cleaner talonflame and he gets wiped out, and then talonflame knocks out the rest of my team.
Here's what I'm running, any advice is much appreciated!
Carbink @ Light Clay
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Reflect
- Stealth Rock
- Light Screen
Reason for using: I went with Carbink because I wanted to use something no one else uses nor understands. It has excellent defensive stats, usable speed and HP, and some decent wall moves. I try to start out with Carbink. It's max speed lets me throw out some Stealth Rock and put up screens to make up for the lack of defensive ev's on my pokemon. The idea is to have a team that emphasizes speed and attack, but has screens to make up for low defenses. Carbink's moonlight is for fighting out Taunt users like Sableye, or fools that start with Dragons.
However, if I spot a fast steel type, a spore user, a sticky web user, or a setup pokemon, I can't start with carbink or the opponent can either KO Carbink or setup and/or baton pass.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- U-turn
- Brick Break
Reason: Scizor breaks through walls well and its Bug/Steel typing hits a wide range of pokemon and its stab lets u turn and BP hit hard. Bullet Punch obliterates Florges and mostly all fairy types. Pursuit lets me switch in Scizor against a weakened offender and guarentee an unescapable fate. U-Turn lets it hit hard then get out of there, and Brick Break is in case the opponent uses dual screens too, and my Infiltrator Noivern is fainted. I feel like my EV spead is not as effective as it could be, and Superpower may be a better alternative to Brick Break.
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Ice Beam
Starmie is a tank, and the only pokemon it can't put a dent in are Florges and Blissey. Psychic takes out Poison types and unexpecting fighting types (no one suspects Starmie of packing Psychic). Thunderbolt is my only protection from water types. Surf for super powerful STAB attack. Ice Beam for Dragons. Running Life Orb w/o and recovery is hurting, and Excadrill really isnt a very good rapid spin user. So my setup is hurtin and not as effective as it could be. However, that psychic and Thunderbolt are pretty useful.
Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Whirlwind
- Air Slash
- Draco Meteor
I love Noivern and its very effective in-game and on PS! Widw type coverage and high speed is for attacking and getting out fast. Whirlwind is for blowing away volcarona and other sweepers that set up on carbink. Air slash is for breloom/fighters, and it's helpful bc if it the opponent swaps, Flying type hits most other pokemon with regular effectiveness, whereas flamethrower can be easily resisted. Draco Meteor hits very hard and KO's a lot of pokemon, even if it isn't super effective.
Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin
I think excadrill is my biggest problem. I never get a chance to use it and it always gets taken out by talonflame. I'm thinking about switching rapid spin over to starmie. Earthquake for its primary STAB attack. Rapid Spin b/c Starmie has 4 move slot syndrome. Rock Slide for Flying types. Big problem with this is Fire/Flying is becoming a huge factor in Gen VI, and their high speed blows through Excadrill. Most time I don't even have a chance to Swords Dance.
Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Return
- Power-Up Punch
- Fake Out
Kangaskan is incredibly powerful and worthy of being my mega-evo. scappy lets me finish off any pokemon with Powerup punch, then evolve and sweep, or start with fake out and go from there. Return is a killer STAB move, and Sucker Punch walls Aegislash as long as I dont have a status condition. Jolly lets me ouspeed other Kangas, as adamant is preferred but hardly necessary, but a bulky set could be more effective.
