Hey guys! So I am very new to Smogon and the online metagame itself, and this is my first RMT thread (so don't be too harsh haha). I hope I get the formatting/explaining thing down, seeing as I have read a lot of threads in the past. This is the first team I have created, and enjoyed doing so very much. In the short time I've been using this team it has achieved pretty good success online, so here it is! Hope you enjoy :)
The team I am using is a standard OU Sun Team that revolves around a lot of switching and usage of hard-hitting attacks when the opportunities present themselves. The team consists of the following pokes;
You'll notice this sun team includes many of the usual sun abusers, as well as some additional guys I decided to throw on the team. The one unfortunate part about this team is that I have no rapid spinner, so stealth rocks and spikes wreak havoc on this team. That is one of the changes I am currently working to fix, but here is the team in its current form:
Victory (Victini) (N) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Victory Star
EVs: 4HP / 252Atk / 252 Speed
Jolly Nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
- V-Create
- U-Turn
- Fusion Bolt
- Brick Break
The first thing you'll notice about my team is that Ninetales is, in fact, not my lead Pokemon. This is for a number of reasons; first of all, my Ninetales is Timid with 252 Speed EVs, meaning that Drought will be overridden by the other weather-inducing starters if placed first on the team. Secondly, thanks to team-preview, many predict the Ninetales lead, so sending out Victini first often takes opponents by surprise.
Victini commonly strikes first with a scarfed U-Turn to lead the match, which often does a solid chunk of damage. I then switch to my Ninetales or any other Pokemon I see fit to tackle the current Pokemon my opponent is using. V-Create is the obvious fire move for Victini that does a ridiculous amount of damage, especially if the sun is shining. Fusion Bolt and Brick Break are for coverage purposes, seeing as water-Pokemon (handled by Fusion Bolt) and Tyranitar (handled by Brick Break) are common threats. The EV spread is obvious on an offensive Pokemon, so not much explanation is needed for that.
Tech9Tailz (Ninetales) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 4 SpAtk / 252 SDef / 252 Speed
Timid Nature (+Speed, -Atk)
- Overheat
- Power Swap
- Substitute
- Will-O-Wisp
100% of the credit for the idea for the Ninetales goes to Katakiri and his "Prelude of Light" team (although I altered the EV spread just a tad to make it more defensive and replaced Safeguard with Substitute). The set for this Ninetales is absolutely brilliant and has saved me in a lot of situations. Being that I have no phazer on my team, Ninetales acts as my crippler of set-up sweepers. Physical sweepers are heavily impaired by Will-O-Wisp, while the Overheat/PowerSwap combination destroys special attackers. The 252 Speed EVs often allow Ninetales to attack first, so after an Overheat, bringing my SpAtk to -2, I switch the -2 over to my opponent with PowerSwap.
Being that weather-wars are very common in the OU metagame, I wanted this Ninetales to last as long as possible. As such, I gave him 252 SDef EVs to increase his bulk. Substitute also comes in handy, especially when I bring Ninetales in against a Pokemon weak to fire which often times gives me a free Substitute on the opponents switch-out. Many people expect Ninetales to be Specially offensive, so this defensive set often comes as a surprise.
Lilly (Lilligant) (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Speed
Modest Nature (+SpAtk, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- HP Fire
- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
With any sun team comes the chlorophyll abuser, and I decided to choose Lilligant over the common Venusaur. I sometimes use Lilligant in the lead position for her ability to greatly damage the weather starters; Politoed, Tyranitar, and Hippowdown with Leaf Storm and Abomasnow with HP Fire. In the sun, the speed boost Lilligant receives is exponentially helpful and allows Lilligant to be an absolute monster.
The two attacking moves are self-explanatory, with Leaf Storm being beyond powerful and HP Fire getting the sun-boost which grants me good coverage. Quiver Dance allows Lilligant to set-up, which is potentially fatal for opposing teams; I often use Quiver Dance if I predict a switch-out by the opponent. Sleep Powder also comes in handy if I am trying to use Quiver Dance instead of simply attacking. Being almost always faster than my opponent, Sleep Powder is extremely helpful in long battles.
The EV spread is standard for sweeping, with max Evs in Speed and Special Attack to wreak maximum havoc.
Laxative (Snorlax) (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Superpower
- Wild Charge
With a team full of special attackers, I needed at least one Pokemon to unleash strong physical fury against the likes of Blissey. Snorlax is a wonderful little gem that works incredibly with this team. It's moves provide wide coverage checking a lot of OU threats. A sun-boosted fire punch has the potential to inflict much damage, while superpower and earthquake provide additional offensive support. Wild Charge is used for water-types that have the potential to threaten Victini, Ninetales, and Heatran.
The EV spread and item choice are mainly to allow Snorlax to make the most of switch-in situations. With 252 SDef EVs and Thick Fat, Snorlax is able to tank many special attacks upon switching-in. The wide coverage of Snorlax's movepool provides opportunities to take out the opposing Pokemon with a strong choice-banded physical attack.
(BAN ME PLEASE) (Heatran) (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 252 SDef / 4 Speed
Modest Nature (+SpAtk, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- HP Ice
- Will-O-Wisp
Heatran is a vital member to any sun team, and plays a special role on this squad as a check against Dragon attackers and EQ users thanks to Air Balloon. Fire Blast is a traditional strong fire attack, although accuracy has sometimes failed me during battle. EarthPower provides good coverage and is a strong special attack that works well against other Heatran. HP Ice is, obviously, for use against Dragons that could spell danger for my team. Will-O-Wisp is to hinder physical attackers, while Heatran's natural special bulk, enhanced with 252 SDef EVs, provides good defense against special attackers.
Fluffy (Hydreigon) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Speed
Timid Nature (+Speed, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Focus Blast
Hydreigon acts as the main late-game sweeper of this time, with the ability to hit really hard, really fast. Choice Scarf allows me to outspeed many threats, which allows Hydreigon to also act as a solid revenge killer. Draco Meteor is my main STAB dragon move, although the -2 Special Attack drop is severely inconvenient. Dark Pulse is another STAB option, allowing me to damage Pokemon of the likes of Gengar, while Focus Blast and sun-boosted Fire Blast also allow for wide coverage.
The EV spread is, yet again, standard for a speedy special sweeper. Not much really needs to be said about Hydreigon other than the fact that it does work. And that's it.
________________________________________________________________
So there's my team from start to finish. As I mentioned earlier, I do not have a rapid spinner or a single Pokemon that lays down entry hazards (should I possibly switch Will-O-Wisp on Heatran for Stealth Rock?) which is a problem, but I have seen past it on numerous occasions. This is, as stated, my first RMT and first ever thread posted to Smogon, so my apologies for any errors in format or use of language/abbreviations or anything of that nature.
Thanks so much! Also, if I knew how to make an Importable...I would do that :)
