This came up on the other NP Celebi thread. This is a quick update for the baton pass set. The ability to pass to Nasty Plot should definitely make this set more threatening.

QC 3/3
GP 2/2

[Set]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Nasty Plot / Swords Dance / Calm Mind
move 2: Grass Knot / Seed Bomb
move 3: Baton Pass
move 4: Recover / Earth Power / Psychic
item: Leftovers / Occa Berry
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid / Jolly

[SET COMMENTS]

With Celebi's great bulk, base 100 Speed, and access to a variety of boosting moves, it can function as a great Baton Passer. Furthermore, access to Recover and handy resistances ensures that Celebi will be sticking around for a long time, so Baton Passing several boosts is quite easy.

Celebi has the potential to pass Nasty Plot, Calm Mind, and Swords Dance boosts, making it a great supporter for most sweepers. Grass Knot or Seed Bomb provides Celebi with a handy attacking move against common Taunt users, such as Gliscor and Gyarados. Occa Berry can be used in order to have an easier time passing against Heatran and Infernape. With Baton Pass, Celebi can easily escape from potential threats such as Heatran, Skarmory, and most importantly, Pursuit Tyranitar and Scizor. Recover allows Celebi to set up against weaker Pokémon, and also gives it the capability to Baton Pass more than once, while Earth Power allows Celebi to hit common Steel-type switch-ins such as Heatran, Metagross, and Jirachi. Psychic can also be used in order to hit Dragonite, Rotom-A, and Zapdos switch-ins.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Because Celebi has many weaknesses, it can be hard to find a good partner that Celebi can Baton Pass to. Pokémon that are innately fast or can boost their Speed are
the most viable. Starmie and Suicune are good partners to take advantage of specially-oriented boosts, as they have high Speed and Special Attack, and they synergize well with Celebi defensively, resisting its Fire- and Ice-type weaknesses. Rock Polish Tyranitar is a good partner to Baton Pass a Swords Dance to, as he resists all of Celebi's weaknesses except for Ice and Bug. Agility Lucario and Metagross are other alternative recipients if they can avoid Fire-type moves, as they resist all of Celebi's other weaknesses bar Flying (in Lucario's case) and Fire. Dragonite can be an effective recipient when carrying Agility or Extremespeed if it avoids Ice-type moves.

Celebi is viable on Baton Pass chains due to its bulk and useful resistances. Vaporeon is a good partner due to her resistances to Fire- and Ice-type moves and ability to Baton Pass 101 HP Substitutes or Acid Armor boosts. Scizor is an excellent teammate, as he can Baton Pass Agility or Iron Defense. Smeargle is also a good partner due to his vast movepool, allowing him to Baton Pass all sorts of boosts along with Ingrain.

Beefed up some parts, otherwise not much to nitpick here since this is a short set analysis after all

nice job, megan. the grammar was pretty excellent in this analysis so most of my edits were prose nitpicks.

edit: ugh my bad fatecrashers...wasn't thinking clearly :/

I would respectfully disagree with Snorlaxe's changing of 'passing against Heatran and Infernape' to 'getting past Heatran and Infernape'.

The goal of this set is clearly to survive a Fire attack with Occa Berry and then Baton Pass any boosts you have to another Pokemon, not to muscle your way through Fire-types with Earth Power. I feel that this meaning would be skewed if you make the above change.

From my experience this also really screws with support pokemon like Blissey or enemy Celebi (or Cresselia if you actually see one in OU or are playing at Pokemon Online). From my experience, too often will those pokemon aim to Thunder Wave Celebi as it boosts itself. With the speed-drop, you can then procede to slow-pass to a sweeper for basically no risk at all (since Celebi's got natural cure and takes piddley damage from anything those pokemon can carry). Good stuff.

thanks to fatecrashers and snorlaxe for gp checks and yea choutoshio baton pass celebi does mess up with support pokemon who cant touch celebi. This update is now done and ready for upload
