ChainPass Shenanigans

Baton Pass is probably the most unique and interesting move in Pokemon. Unfortunately, it sees very little usage in OU right now. Nevertheless, my baton pass team has been performing decently well on the PS ladders (I'm currently 42-19). Of course, this is far from perfect and any help you can give would be appreciated. Without further ado, here's the team!

Ninjask @ Leftovers
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs:252 HP/- Spa/4 Spd/252+ Spe
-Substitute
-Protect
-Baton Pass
-Swords Dance

Ninjask is usually my lead, and for good reason. Unless I'm facing a Prankster with Taunt, he's guaranteed to pass at least +1 Spe. Typically though, I can get up to +6 Spe if I so choose, as, without any form of priority or the move Taunt, most Pokemon find it extremely difficult to stop Ninjask from alternating Substitute and Protect to stall for speed boosts. Once I am satisfied with my speed (it's nice to have a substitute up as well) I pass to the Pokemon that I believe best handles the current threat. Typically, this will be Espeon, Vaporeon, or Mew.

Espeon @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 Hp/- Atk/252+ Def/4 Spd
-Calm Mind
-Baton Pass
-Morning Sun
-Stored Power

This is hands down the most important Pokemon on my team. Once I get a few speed boosts, it turns every single Baton Pass on every one of my Pokemon into a pseudo-Magic Coat. Also, it is probably the most terrifying receiver in the game: With a decent number of boosts from other Pokemon and after 1 Calm Mind, it will OHKO pretty much anything other than Blissey or a Dark Type. Recovery is nice also, even if it does take the form of Morning Sun. However, Espeon's main use is definitely its ability: The importance of Magic Bounce to this team cannot be overstated. Magic Bounce deals with Roar, Taunt, Encore, Torment, etc. These are all common or not uncommon moves that can devastate an unprepared Baton Pass team.

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Trait: Own Tempo
EVs 252 HP/- Atk/4 Spd/252+ Spe
-Spore
-Baton Pass
-Ingrain
-Substitute

Smeargle's main use on this team is that it is the only Pokemon that gets both Spore and Baton Pass. If my opponent tries to set up alongside me with a stat booster such as Calm Mind Celebi (although this works against many stat boosters, especially those without priority), I can Baton Pass to Smeargle, take a hit if need be with Focus Sash, then either Baton Pass out or set up Ingrain, depending on the situation. Ingrain is a useful move, it allows me to beat Roar when Espeon is low on health and mispredicting could be fatal. It also allows me to beat damaging phazing moves when my current Pokemon does not have Substitute. Substitute is just a useful move that allows Smeargle to dodge status. It is also another great thing for Smeargle to pass if it has a free turn due to sleep.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 Hp/- Atk/252+ Def/4 Spd
-Acid Armor
-Wish
-Scald
-Baton Pass

Vaporeon is my defense booster. It is also one of three Pokemon with an attacking move, the other two being Scizor and Espeon. Typically, Vaporeon will end up attacking with Scald earlier in the game. Its most common Scald target is definitely Scizor, as the burn usually proves deadly and Scald hits for decent damage as well. Wish is subpar recovery, but Vaporeon lacks a better option. I considered Protect over Scald, but Vaporeon was easy set up bait for too many things. All in all, Vaporeon provides a valuable role on this team: Without it, physical attackers, such as Scizor and Conkeldurr, would completely dominate this team.

Mew @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 Hp/- Atk/4 Def/252+ Spd
-Amnesia
-Substitute
-Baton Pass
-Roost

Mew is an incredibly reliable Spd booster, and is also my most reliable Substitute producer. A large part of this reliability is due to Roost; it enables Mew produce infinite (well, 16) Substitutes once they are 2HKO'd. It also allows me to reach x4 Spd fairly easily, although this isn't always necessary. There isn't really much to say about Mew, it's fairly self-explanatory.

Pokemon_Scizor_by_masterrabbit.jpg

Scizor @ Leftovers
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Hp/4 Atk/252+ Def/- Spa
-Bug Bite
-Swords Dance
-Roost
-Baton Pass

Scizor is my only physical attacker. Its Bug stab and high physical bulk also pairs wonderfully with Espeon's Psychic stab and low physical bulk. Roost + Speed boosts allow it to win vs other Scizor, especially after a Def boost or two. I usually Baton Pass to Scizor only with a Sub up if there's a risk of it getting burned or hit with a Fire attack, as both those things are extremely difficult for Scizor to deal with. Scizor's bulk, good defensive typing, and ability to set up in the face of attacking pressure make it a valuable member of this team.

Hello ntiller! Very good Baton Pass team...
Let's rate..baton pass team are a difficult playstyle, a lot of player consider this for ''noob'',broken but obviously they don't consider this during the teambuilding and go to lose.Anyway Perish Song,Roar, booster like DDnite and hax are the best choice for cripple every bpass...
1)In this case Roar is covered by Espeon but Perish Song no..that is a big problem infact in this metagame a lot of people abuse of PerishsongCelebi,PerishSongPolitoed ecc...so the change is easy Mr.Mime>Scizorthat is so important because allow you to absorb PerishSong and setup Substitute or boost whit CalmMind...all this thanks to Soundproof

Mr. Mime (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Soundproof
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Baton Pass
- Substitute
- Taunt
2)Now, hax is another problem..so how can you avoid?Substitute is what you need infact if you use ninjask correctly you'll outspeed every treath in metagame...why is important?because if your opponent outspeed you ,him will have the oppurtunity to trick your pokemon in random move or make a hax...no one would this so put Substitute>Wish and Aqua Ring>Scald on vaporeon...the recovery move aren't more important in bpass and Aqua Ring+Ingrain is all what you need..also in the end put on Mew Barrier>Roost for the same motivation.Barrier is another good boost, more useful in this case where your only Def booster is Vaporeon...
3)Hidden Power Fight>Morning Sun...this is important for hit dark types like Tyranitar and allow you to destroy entire team only whit Espeon
4)I don't understand evs so look here:
_Ninjask--->248 Hp/236 Def/24 Spe--->24 evs in Spd are for Outspeed 115 base whit +1
_Vaporeon--->244 Hp/136 Def/128 Spe--->The given EVs maximize Vaporeon's Baton Passing capabilities. 128 Speed EVs enable Vaporeon to outspeed positive-natured base 130s with +2 Speed. 136 Defense EVs give a jump point with the given Bold nature, while 244 HP enables Vaporeon to make the largest HP Substitutes it can without being weak to entry hazards. Additionally, at +4 Defense, Ferrothorn can't break Vaporeon's Substitutes with a 0 Attack Power Whip. Vaporeon can also Baton Pass Work Up, but Baton Pass receivers are generally either physically or specially based to avoid splitting EVs.
_Espeon--->252Hp/252Spe/4Spatk--->The EV spread provides Espeon with bulk while maintaining its rather high Speed
_Mew--->252Hp/252Def/4Sdef--->very bulky for setup substitute
_Mr.Mime--->252Hp/252Def/4Sdef--->bulkyness

Mr. Mime would be my third psychic type, so if I were to include him, it would not be over my 4x dark resist. Honestly, I've played about 60 matches with this team and only in one of them was Perish Song used. Admittedly, Perish Song is a huge threat and usually guarantees me losing. However, having three psychic types and no physical attacker seems to create more problems than it solves. Hidden Power Fighting is a move I would put on Espeon if i was going to take out Scizor. As it is though, Stored Power, Bug Bite, and Scald Provide pretty good coverage (the only thing they can't handle is Shedinja). The EV's on Ninjask are because of Scarfers, and because it should never have to take a hit anyway. The Espeon EV's are because with enough Speed boosts (I typically end up with 2.5-3x speed, and can go further if I need to) EV's in speed would be a waste. Thank you for posting, Mr. Mime certainly would solve a lot of problems but I know that cutting Scizor would be incorrect. He's currently not on the team because he only deals with one thing the others can't, and while that thing is very powerful, it's also very rare. Also, if you know of a faster Taunt Baton Passer with preferably more bulk than Mr. Mime (really, just all around higher stats), i would really appreciate it.
