chamungus. (detective work)

This is a reddit post made by a slovenian person who works for a multinational with employees in the US and Canada. He meets his coworkers from these places, and notices them saying "chamungus", which isn't an English word he recognizes. He can't figure out what the word means in spite of his attempts. He says:

I am from slovenia and this week we have 5 people from US and toronto office visiting us for trainings. On monday when we were first shaking hands and getting to know each other before the meetings they would say something like "chamungus" or "chumungus" or something along those lines. I googled it but I never found out what it means. I just noticed they only say that word the first time they are meeting someone.
Anyone know what it means or what it is for?

Now it's your turn. Post your theories or ideas about what this word could mean. I expect both native and nonnative English speakers alike to be baffled by this challenging puzzle.

YES!! This is it, it was "nice to meet you", not chamungus. Thanks! I think since they speak so fast I just thought it was one word they are saying. I am not used to listening to spoken english.
Thanks for the help.
