[SET]
Name: Chansey
move 1: Toxic
move 2: Soft-Boiled
move 3: Aromatherapy
move 4: Confide/Teleport
Item: Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Calm
Evs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Because of its solid special bulk, as well as a defensive boost from Eviolite, Chansey is the bulkiest special wall in the metagame, being able to take hits from a boosted Xerneas and Choice Scarf Kyogre. Against these special attackers, Chansey can passively damage them using Toxic. Soft-Boiled gives Chansey an invaluable source of recovery that can, in conjunction with Toxic, allow Chansey to spam recovery until the opposing Pokemon eventually faints from Toxic damage. Aromatherapy enables Chansey to remove status from its team, which especially helps bulkier Pokemon like Giratina, Yveltal, and Zygarde, which can’t be damaged in other ways as easily. Teleport is a great option on Chansey, as Chansey can absorb a special hit from the opposing Pokemon and pivot into a desirable matchup. Teleport Chansey can also potentially escape trappers like Regieleki. Confide allows Chansey to beat Calm Mind Kyogre and Substitute Xerneas, which can otherwise freely set up Calm Mind and Geomancy multiple times and overwhelm Chansey. However, Chansey’s horrible physical Defense leaves it vulnerable to physical attacks, even from defensive Pokemon like Necrozma-DM, Tyranitar, and Ho-Oh, and Knock Off users, such as Yveltal and Necrozma-DM. Chansey’s ability Natural Cure enables it to switch into a move inflicting status, and pivot into another Pokemon. The given EVs minimize damage taken from physical sources while also taking hits as reliably as possible from special attackers like Kyogre and Xerneas.
Chansey works best in stall and bulky balance teams, with physically defensive Pokemon such as defensive Necrozma-Dusk-Mane and Zygarde. Zygarde checks Knock Off Yveltal and Necrozma-DM and can annoy them with paralysis from Glare. Necrozma-DM can set up Stealth Rock on the opponent's side, discouraging switching Pokemon without Heavy-Duty Boots. Stealth Rock can deal considerable damage to many of Chansey’s checks, particularly Yveltal. Yveltal also works well with Chansey, as it resists Knock Off, and can use the move against Chansey's common switch-ins for impressive damage, as well as the removal of Heavy-Duty Boots. As most of the Pokemon using Heavy-Duty Boots are weak to the Rock type, removal of this item would make it more difficult to switch in, while also risking Chansey using Toxic that turn. Chansey checks many special attackers that these Pokemon fall victim to; in return, they check the many physical attackers that Chansey doesn’t do well against. Chansey may also find it helpful to have a Defogger such as Ho-oh or Giratina, to minimize chip from Stealth Rock.

Other Options

Seismic toss is another potential option for Chansey, allowing it to damage common Steel-types, like Necrozma-DM and Zacian-C, and Eternatus, unlike Toxic. However, Seismic Toss doesn't damage Calyrex-Shadow, and removing another move can interfere with Chansey's ability to wall or act as a cleric. Chansey’s sky-high HP makes it a fantastic user of Wish, which Chansey can support its allies effectively with, with Groudon, Necrozma-DM, and Lugia especially benefitting from it. This move would replace Confide/Teleport as the fourth slot. However, Wish requires extensive prediction and a safe switch-in in order for it to be effective; otherwise the Pokemon switching in may get KO'ed instead of being healed.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Necrozma-DM**: Necrozma-DM has Toxic immunity, and commonly has Knock Off as a move, allowing it to reliably defeat Chansey. Dragon Dance Necrozma can set up in front of Chansey without it taking meaningful damage from it.
**Any Strong Physical Attacker**: The likes of Zacian-Crowned, Zekrom and offensive Groudon are able to at least 2HKO Chansey while taking minimal damage from Toxic. In particular, Knock Off Yveltal is a threat, as without Eviolite Chansey's already pitiful Defense is further diminished. Mewtwo and Calyrex-Shadow are also dangerous, as they often have Psystrike and Psyshock respectively as one of their moves.
**Taunt-users** As Chansey relies on status moves to fulfill its role, Taunt users such as Yveltal and Mewtwo completely shut it down, usually forcing a switch unless Chansey is using Seismic Toss.
