ORAS OU Charizard X Team

Charizard X was one of my favorite megas in the X & Y era, so I decided to try to build a team around him in this new meta. I have had moderate success with this team but it definitely needs some help.

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X

Ability: Tough Claws

EVs:72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Dragon Dance

- Dragon Claw

- Flare Blitz

- Roost

This is the monster that I wanted to build the team around. Standard moveset for Zard. The ev’s are meant to outspeed the fastest Lando-T at +1 and giving Zard a bit more bulk. +1 atk and Tough Claws helps wreck shop against standard attackers and special walls. The biggest problem being that Flare Blitz only does 54-64% at +0 against Choice Scarf Lando and even less to the defensive variant. While much less common, Choice Scarf Latios will also easily decimate Zard with a Draco Meteor. Don’t even get me started on Stealth Rocks.

Azelf @ Focus Sash

Ability: Levitate

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe

Hasty Nature

- Stealth Rock

- Taunt

- Explosion

- Flamethrower

I love my suicide lead but it is one of the more replaceable members of the team. Standard set and EV’s. Taunt is a wonderful tool to stop Ferrothorn and Heatran. Stealth Rock for obvious reasons. Explosion is a great tool to use with Azelf’s fast speed and Focus Sash. After bringing me to sash on the first turn, while I set up rocks, some people think that switching in Latios to defog is a good play. Explosion OHKO’s Latios and removes a huge threat to other members of my team. Saving my 1HP Azelf is also a plan as I can explode on a threat sometime mid-game or use it to gain initiative. Flamethrower is for Scizor primarily, but I do occasionally have a chance to use it on Ferrothorn.

Greninja @ Life Orb

Ability: Protean

EVs: 40 Atk / 216 SpA / 252 Spe

Naive Nature

- Gunk Shot

- Dark Pulse

- Hydro Pump

- Ice Beam

Greninja has become a monster in this game and everyone in OU knows it. He is the primary special force in this team and handles it very well. I use 40 atk EVs and gunk shot to guarantee a kill on most Clefable as well as Azumarill. The rest of the set is pretty standard stuff. Dark pulse over grass knot as it hits mega Sableye harder and I can faze CroBro out with Heatran.

Heatran @ Leftovers

Ability: Flash Fire

EVs: 248 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD / 4 Spe

Calm Nature

- Stealth Rock

- Lava Plume

- Toxic

- Roar

Another standard set, although its one I’m unsure of. I love having a second stealth rock setter as when if my rocks get removed after Azelf dies, I can put them back up for residual damage. Although, adding Earth Power to the set seems to be worthwhile but I haven’t tried it out yet. Toxic helps a lot for certain mons, especially if I can catch a Greninja or Rotom- W. Roar helps with SubDD Mega Altaria and CroBro. Lava Plume for damage and good chance of Burns.

Chesnaught @ Leftovers

Ability: Bulletproof

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

Impish Nature

- Spiky Shield

- Leech Seed

- Drain Punch

- Seed Bomb

My physical wall for the team. It is amazing and it helps so much with Heatran and Excadrill’s weaknesses, with the complete immunity to Focus Blast. I can completely wall some forms of Gengar with the ability Bulletproof. Leech Seed helps with recovery and Spiky Shield gives extra recovery while causing damage to physical attackers. Choice Scarf Lando does 11-13.8% with U-Turn and I can Spiky Shield the first turn to get a bit of damage on it. Drain Punch and Seed Bomb for physical STAB’s. I have swept entire rain teams with this mon and love using it.

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Mold Breaker

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Earthquake

- Rapid Spin

- Rock Slide

- Iron Head

The last of my sweepers and it often becomes a win condition for my team. I went with Adamant over Jolly as my biggest threat, Scarf Lando, isn’t outsped by Jolly Excadrill anyways. The moveset and EVs are standard for Scarf Drill. He is usually used mid-to-late game to either spin away rocks for Charizard to come in and sweep, or he cleans up the opponent’s team with Mold Breaker+ Earthquake.

Threats:

Scarf Lando obviously. I’ve mentioned it often enough.

Mega Sableye can become a huge problem if I don’t get an early burn with Lava Plume from Heatran. After it sets up, I have no way of stopping it other than begging for a crit. Will-o-wisp is also extremely bad for Excadrill. I can usually predict a Will-o and switch to Heatran, only to Lava Plume from there but it’s not the best plan.

Mega Altaria at +2 runs through my team. The only thing I can hope for is that it is a mono-attack set and then Heatran provides a soft check to it.

There are probably others but these are the most notable that I have found.

Any help with this team is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

idk why you have to rockers azelf isnt needed since tran does the job better. Replace taunt over toxic. You lose to Keldeo so replace azel with lati. Conk and Azu is a threat so replace it with clefable since Clefable+Zardx is a good core zard beats steels and clef beats sets up on zards checks. Spikes over seed bomb to provide offense seedbomb doesnt help as much since it only hits ground/water. You lose to rain so quagsire is good in the last slot so that you dont lose to opposing sweepers and its something that can take on mamoswine.
