[SET]
name: Sticky Web Setter
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: Skitter Smack
move 3: Volt Switch
move 4: Toxic / Thunder Wave
ability: Battery
nature: Impish
evs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
[SET COMMENTS]
Charjabug is the premier Sticky Web setter in ZU. Its excellent physical bulk is boosted further by Eviolite, allowing it to function as a slow pivot with Volt Switch to bring in wallbreakers that are frail or susceptible to being chipped like Pikachu, Life Orb Stonjourner, and Flame Orb Machoke for free. However, a weakness to Stealth Rock and being crippled by Knock Off and opposing Toxic limits its effectiveness in this role. Skitter Smack with its respectable Attack is surprisingly useful, helping it take more hits from special attackers and being effective against top tier threats like Galarian Linoone, Beheeyem, and Galarian Mr. Mime. Toxic offers utility in wearing down opposing walls and hazard control, as Defog and Rapid Spin users like Vullaby, Vespiquen, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Wartortle often switch into Charjabug to remove its Sticky Web. Finally, Thunder Wave can be used as an additional form of speed control that cripples Rapid Spin users like Galarian Mr. Mime and Wartortle more severely than Toxic.
As Charjabug's primary role is setting up Sticky Web, Pokemon that deter hazard removal are ideal partners. Defiant Farfetch'd and Competitive Gothitelle punish Defog, and Gourgeist-L, Dusclops, and Shedinja stop Rapid Spin attempts from users like Wartortle and Galarian Mr. Mime. Slower, stronger attackers are ideal partners thanks to Sticky Web, namely Fraxure, Gourgeist-L and Machoke. Grass- and Water-type wallbreakers like Trevenant, Choice Specs Whiscash, and Octillery also complement Charjabug by threatening Ground-type Pokemon like Palpitoad and Hippopotas that block Charjabug's Volt Switch. As Sticky Web teams usually punish hazard removal, further hazard stacking is viable with Stealth Rock users like Krokorok and Stonjourner, the former of which uses Taunt as an additional countermeasure to Defog, Spikes users like Glalie and Maractus, and Toxic Spikes users like Vespiquen and Trubbish all being effective at further supporting wallbreakers and sweepers.
