Chinchou @ Eviolite
Ability: Volt Absorb
Level: 5
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 132 Def / 148 SpA / 220 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Volt Switch
Chinchou's brilliant typing and adorable eyes make it shine as one of LC's best pivots! Offensive threats like Torchic, Elekid, and Wingull are held off or forced to Terastallize by Chinchou's defensive typing and ability, while staples like Vullaby, Mudbray, and Glimmet are hit hard by its STAB combination. Volt Absorb allows Chinchou to block pivot attempts from Elekid and opposing Chinchou, so Flip Turn may be slotted for momentum in the Chinchou mirror. Most teams depend on Foongus and Mienfoo to deter Chinchou defensively, so Knock Off users like Stunky enable Chinchou to break through its checks. This also makes Chinchou a common partner for Gothita, which can safely switch in and trap the omnipresent Mienfoo + Foongus balance core. With 132 Defense EVs, Chinchou survives two Knock Offs from physical Vullaby and walls the Nasty Plot set. Chinchou is vulnerable to Alolan Diglett, which may switch in on Volt Switch and threaten a KO. This makes Chinchou an excellent partner for Mudbray on balance teams, a complementary Vullaby check that threatens Alolan Diglett back.
