[SET]
Choice Band (Weavile) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Triple Axel
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Pursuit
[SET COMMENTS]
Weavile has a place in the tier as a wallbreaker that can outspeed much of the metagame, blitzing past Pokemon like Ogerpon-W, Mega Diancie, and Tornadus-T. Choice Band grants Weavile the ability to OHKO offensive Great Tusk, threaten a potential 2HKO on Clefable with Triple and discourage Gliscor, Ting-Lu, and Mega Tyranitar from absorbing Knock Off. Knock Off punishes switch-ins like Ferrothorn, Zamazenta, and Toxapex, making them easier to break through for Weavile and its teammates due to their lack of Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers. Ice Shard allows Weavile to pick off faster foes such as boosted Garchomp and Dragonite, being able to OHKO both after Stealth Rock. Pursuit lets Weavile trap targets such as Mega Latios, Galarian Slowking, and Choice-locked Tapu Lele to open up teammates.
Weavile fits on a variety of structures ranging from balance to bulky offense. These teams benefit from Weavile's ability to force progress through Knock Off and remove key Pokemon like Galarian Slowking, Mega Latios, and Slowbro with Pursuit. In addition, Weavile enables hazard-setting teammates like Landorus-T, Ting-Lu, and Ferrothorn by removing Heavy-Duty Boots from Zamazenta, Toxapex, and Flying-types such as Moltres and Zapdos, cutting into their longevity. In return, the aforementioned teammates provide Weavile with a defensive buffer against Pokemon like Melmetal and Kingambit. Weavile is also vulnerable to faster Fighting-types like Choice Scarf Urshifu-R, Zamazenta, and Booster Energy Iron Valiant, so allies such as Gholdengo and Pecharunt are appreciated to provide a response to these foes. In return, Weavile muscles through Ground-types such as Great Tusk, Landorus-T, and Gliscor for them. Weavile is quite frail and can have difficulty entering the field safely; therefore, allies like Pecharunt, Galarian Slowking, and Alomomola are appreciated to get it in without harm. Furthermore, the aforementioned Pokemon appreciate Weavile directly threatening foes like Dragonite, Gholdengo, and Raging Bolt. Rapid Spin from partners like Great Tusk and Terapagos protects Weavile from its Stealth Rock weakness. In return, Weavile can potentially Pursuit trap weakened Gholdengo to deter it from blocking Rapid Spin. Weavile also threatens Tornadus-T for Great Tusk and removes Galarian Slowking for Terapagos.
