Choice Scarf Alolan Sandslash + Overview Revamp

[OVERVIEW]

  • Alolan Sandslash's unique typing, solid coverage moves, and useful utility options allow it to successfully pull off multiple roles in the PU metagame.
  • Firstly, Alolan Sandslash's Steel/Ice typing grants it very useful resistances to Ice, Flying, and Grass, making it a great defensive check to threats such as Aurorus, Choice-locked Abomasnow, and Oricorio-E and Cryogonal lacking a super effective Hidden Power type, while being able to hit them super effectively in return.
  • This same typing also gives Alolan Sandslash an immunity to Toxic Spikes and advantageous matchups as a user of Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin, threatening entry hazard setters, removers, and spinblockers like Golurk, physical Skuntank, and Oricorio-G.
  • Alolan Sandslash's access to Slush Rush makes it a viable revenge killer to Snow Warning users like Aurorus and Abomasnow, but it also makes it one of the best abusers of hail in the tier, outspeeding the majority of the metagame including Choice Scarf users like Primeape and Kabutops. Combined with its access to Swords Dance and good natural physical bulk, it can become difficult to take hits from or reliably revenge kill Alolan Sandslash.
  • Alolan Sandslash additionally makes for a great Choice Scarf user, efficiently revenge killing the likes of Oricorio-E, Lycanroc, and Victreebel using its heightened Speed and great coverage moves.
  • However, Alolan Sandslash has common weaknesses to Fire, Fighting, and Ground, so common Pokemon like Gurdurr, Simisear, and Mudsdale can pose a threat to it, in addition to super effective coverage moves from the likes of Victreebel and Cryogonal. In particular, Mach Punch serves as a hindrance to offensive sets, where Hitmonchan and Gurdurr can outspeed Alolan Sandslash before it can fire off an attack.
  • Furthermore, Alolan Sandslash's poor Special Defense is problematic for offensive sets, notably limiting setup opportunities in tandem with its vulnerability to super effective coverage moves.
  • Lastly, Alolan Sandslash has rather poor Speed both outside of hail and relative to other Choice Scarf users, which can leave it vulnerable to faster attackers like Primeape and Haunter in certain predicaments.
