[Set]
Landorus (M) @ Choice Scarf
Name: Choice Scarf Landorus (Ground)
Ability: Sheer Force
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe or 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest / Naive Nature
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast / Rock Slide
- U-turn
[SET COMMENTS]
Although Landorus typically runs Sheer Force and Life Orb, Choice Scarf Landorus is a reliable form of speed control alongside its Ground-type friends. Earth Power can check Steel- and Poison-types like Archaludon and Iron Moth while also doing great neutral damage. Sludge Wave is great coverage to deal with Fairy- and Grass-types like Iron Valiant and the Ogerpon formes after minor chip damage. Focus Blast checks threatening Dark-types like Choice Specs Greninja and non-Choice Scarf Meowscarada while also hitting Steel-types like Skarmory that Earth Power can't. Rock Slide with a Naive nature is a good alternative to deal with Flying-types like Articuno and Moltres that Ground can struggle against while also checking Volcarona. U-turn allows Landorus to swap out while also checking Hoopa-U.
This style of set is typically ran on sandless Ground teams, so having a defensive partner like Quagsire is effective, as with Unaware and great Defense investment, Quagsire can take hits from threats like Urshifu-R and Belly Drum Azumarill while also providing status and entry hazard support with Toxic, Spikes, and Stealth Rock. Clodsire is Ground's best Water-immune Pokemon, so having it paired with Landorus in front of other threats like Ogerpon-W and Choice Band Barraskewda is very appreciated as an immediate switch-in. Clodsire also can spread status and set hazards to help Landorus sweep late-game as well. Gliscor can also be a great pairing with Landorus, as it has a plethora of options to either be a defensive partner, a secondary wallbreaker, or an additional status and hazard spreader with reliable recovery thanks to Poison Heal and Toxic Orb along with Protect to scout for Choice-locked users. Iron Treads effectively pairs well with Landorus, as not only can it take Ice-type hits reliably, but it also provides hazard removal with Rapid Spin. Mixed Garchomp complements Landorus as well, as it has access to hazards while also being a reliable check to Dragon-types like Kyurem and Hydreigon with Life Orb Draco Meteor as well as Corviknight with Fire Blast. Great Tusk is an alternative defensive switch-in that has access to hazard removal with Rapid Spin; it can also remove items with Knock Off from faster Choice-locked Pokemon like Meowscarada. Mamoswine pairs as a secondary wall-breaker: although it is slower, it can utilize a Choice Band to defeat Flying-types that threaten Great Tusk like Tornadus-T and Gliscor while also dealing great damage to the Steel / Flying types like Corviknight and Skarmory. Mamoswine is also a great switch-in to Flying teams that use Articuno, thanks to its neutrality to Ice and ability Thick Fat.
