Monotype Choice Specs Yanmega (Bug) [QC: 2/2] [GP: 1/1]

[OVERVIEW]
Yanmega finds a niche on Bug teams thanks to Tinted Lens, which turns Yanmega into a fantastic wallbreaker. This lets Yanmega deal with Steel- and Flying-types such as Archaludon and Gliscor that would otherwise pose a threat to Bug teams. However, Yanmega is held back by its typing, mediocre general bulk, and a middling Speed tier. It thus requires a careful team composition to make the most out of Yanmega.

[SET COMMENTS]

Yanmega serves as a potent wallbreaker in Bug teams, as Tinted Lens allows it to bypass many of the common checks to the type. Bug Buzz hits hard against most of the tier, 2HKOing key foes such as Toxapex, Bulky Dragon Dance Gouging Fire, Gliscor, and Archaludon. Air Slash deals with Pokemon that resist Bug Buzz even through Tinted Lens such as Corviknight, Klefki, Gholdengo, and Air Balloon Heatran. Giga Drain improves both the Ground and Water matchups by disposing of Swampert and Gastrodon. Finally, U-turn can help retain momentum against predicted swaps. Modest is the preferred nature to maximize Yanmega's damage output, securing a 2HKO against bulky Gouging Fire and reducing the amount of chip damage needed to OHKO Archaludon.

As Bug's sole spinner, Forretress is a key partner for Yanmega. On top of removing entry hazards from Yanmega's side and setting them on the opponent side, Forretress can also deal with Kleavor and slow pivot into Yanmega thanks to Volt Switch. Due to its middling speedtier, Yanmega greatly appreciates Sticky Web setters such as Araquanid, Galvantula, and Ribombee. In that regard, Araquanid is the premier choice, as it has a solid special bulk and Water Bubble that helps it both offensively and defensively, allowing Araquanid to check opposing Volcarona. Galvantula and Ribombee both have a niche, with the former pressuring Water-type foes such as Urshifu-R and Pelipper and the latter providing a useful Dragon immunity to the team. Bulky Quiver Dance Volcarona can set up on special walls that can prove troublesome to Yanmega such as Iron Hands and Galarian Slowking. Yanmega also pairs up well with other sweepers such as Scizor, Kleavor, and Lokix. Scizor takes on Rock- and Fairy-types like Iron Boulder, Kleavor, Flutter Mane, and Iron Valiant. Kleavor provides utility in Stone Axe and helps tremendously in the mirror matchup by getting rid of Volcarona, Lokix, and Araquanid. Finally, Lokix excels at crippling special walls that give trouble to Yanmega such as Hisuian Goodra, Heatran, and Galarian Slowking with Knock Off, while Sucker Punch and First Impression let it deal with Choice Specs Dragapult and Latios.

[OVERVIEW]

Yanmega finds a niche in Bug teams, thanks to its fantastic wallbreaking capabilities that are unlocked by its ability Tinted Lens. This lets Yanmega that allow it to easily deal with Steel- and Flying-types that would otherwise pose a threat to Bug teams. However, the dragonfly is held back by its dual typing, its mediocre general bulk and a midling speed. It thus requires a careful team composition to take the most benefits out of Yanmega.

Yanmega serves as a potent wallbreaker in Bug teams, as Tinted Lens allows it to bypass many of the common checks to the type. Bug Buzz hits strong hard against most of the tier, 2HKO'ing key foes such as Toxapex, Gouging Fire, Gliscor, and Archaludon. Air Slash deals with Pokemon that resist Bug Buzz even through Tinted Lens such as Corviknight, Klefki, Gholdengo, and Heatran that Bug Buzz cannot cover. Giga Drain improves both Ground and Water matchups by disposing of specially defensive Swampert and Gastrodon. Finally, U-turn can help retain momentum against predicted swaps. weakening special tanks such as Heatran and Galarian Goodra, while also providing an option to keep momentum. uturn is doing a solid 5% to these mons + also not used to chip anything, just momentum bc its never doing any damage Modest is the preferred nature to maximize its Yanmega's damage output, securing a 2HKO against bulky Gouging Fire and reducing the amount of chip damage needed to OHKO Archaludon.

As Bug's sole Rapid Spinner, Forretress is a key partner for Yanmega. On top of removing entry hazards from Yanmega's side and setting them on the opponent side, Forretress can also deal with Kleavor and slow pivot into Yanmega, thanks to Volt Switch and its mediocre speed. Due to its midling speedtier, Yanmega greatly appreciates Sticky Web setters such as Araquanid, Galvantula, and Ribombee. In that regard, Araquanid is the premier choice, coming with a solid special bulk and Water Bubble, that helps it both offensively and defensively, allowing Araquanid to check opposing Volcarona. Galvantula and Ribombee both have a niche with the former pressuring Water-type foes such as Urshifu-R, Swampert, and Toxapex you mentioned in the first paragraph how yanmega beats both, would either find other examples or just leave urshifu as the only one; and the latter providing a useful Dragon-type immunity to the team. Volcarona can both provide a defensive and offensive support to Yanmega with its dedicated variants. With a defensive spread, theres only really just setup, either bulky or non bulky. the wisp set from before i dont think is common nor should it be mentioned in analyses because it was made by a top level player to beat a specific mu for fire-type teams/not a standard c&c set which analyses should generally be written around. so i wouldnt make a habit of mentioning it. Bulky setup Volcarona can check special walls such as Iron Hands, and Galarian Slowking, and Hisuian Goodra, goodra just knocks it and dtails it so youre never checking it with volc while a more offensive setup spread an offensive spread lets it deal at +1 with Choice Band Zamazenta at +1 and Expert Belt Iron Valiant volcarona never cares about iron valiant unless its SD but thats not a super common set right now and also has to still avoid flame body burn + its stabs are resisted anyway. Yanmega also pairs up well with other sweepers such as Scizor, Kleavor, and Lokix. Scizor takes on Rock- and Fairy-types foes like Iron Boulder, Kleavor, Flutter Mane, and Iron Valiant. Kleavor provides utility with Stone Axe and helps tremendously in the mirror matchup by getting rid of Volcarona, Lokix, and Araquanid. Finally, Lokix excels at crippling special walls that give trouble to Yanmega such as Hisuian Goodra, Heatran, and Galarian Slowking with Knock Off, while Sucker Punch and First Impression let it deal with Choice Specs Dragapult and Latios.
ill check again after this is implemented!

Bulky Quiver Dance Volcarona can check setup on special walls that can prove troublesome to Yanmega such as Iron Hands, <- remove comma and Galarian Slowking, while Offensive Quiver Dance Volcarona deals with Choice Band Zamazenta at +1 in theory bulkyrona has a better time vs both forms of zama compared to offensive. i would either find an example that bulkyrona definitely does not beat that offensive rona does (probably pretty hard tbh) or remove the offensive volcarona mention altogether and just keep bulky only. Yanmega also pairs up well with other sweepers such as Scizor, Kleavor, and Lokix. Scizor takes on Rock- and Fairy-types foes like Iron Boulder, Kleavor, Flutter Mane, and Iron Valiant.
