name: SUPER STRIKER (Gigantamax Attacker)
move 1: Pyro Ball
move 2: High Jump Kick
move 3: Bounce
move 4: Sucker Punch / Giga Impact / Gunk Shot / Iron Head
item: Life Orb / Assault Vest
ability: Libero
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* With its great Attack, Speed, and Libero, Cinderace finds itself in a commanding position in the BSS metagame.

* Pyro Ball becomes G-Max Fireball under Gigantamax, a 160 Base Power attack that also nullifies abilities like Mimikyu’s Disguise and Necrozma-DM’s Prism Armor.

* Bounce gives Cinderace access to Max Airstream, which makes it a very potent sweeper, having nearly unmatched Speed alongside its colorful movepool and Libero.

* Sucker Punch may seem odd on a set revolving around Max Airstream, but it can be useful in situations where Cinderace doesn’t have a boost, such as revenge killing.
* Giga Impact provides Cinderace with an obscenely powerful Max Strike, which is useful for both its wide neutral coverage and the Speed drop, which lets it maintain the Speed advantage in Dynamax battles against Zapdos without relying on Max Airstream. Max Strike is also Cinderace’s strongest option against Quagsire.

* Gunk Shot grants valuable coverage against Fairy-types such as Xerneas and Tapu Fini. Iron Head still covers Xerneas while giving Cinderace access to Max Steelspike for Defense boosts

Items
========

* Life Orb elevates Cinderace’s damage output even further, making it extremely difficult to wall.

* Assault Vest grants Cinderace some extra survivability, potentially allowing it to get a crucial second hit off against Pokemon like Zapdos.

[SET]
name: Focus Sash
move 1: Pyro Ball
move 2: High Jump Kick / Counter
move 3: Sucker Punch / High Jump Kick
move 4: Gunk Shot / Counter / Iron Head
item: Focus Sash
ability: Libero
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

* Focus Sash Cinderace makes for a powerful general attacker and great lead, starting most games off with a bang.

* High Jump Kick is Cinderace’s strongest attack outside of Dynamax.

* Counter and Focus Sash allow Cinderace to trade KOs with physical threats such as Zacian-C, Urshifu-S, and Landorus-T, potentially removing them from the game immediately.

* Sucker Punch provides powerful priority, picking off weakened targets such as Calyrex-S.

* Gunk Shot provides valuable coverage against Xerneas and Tapu Fini. Iron Head still hits Xerneas supper effectively, but sacrifices damahe against Tapu Fini for the chance to flinch opponents into KO range.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: High Jump Kick
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Pyro Ball
move 4: Gunk Shot / Iron Head / Sucker Punch
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Libero
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Choice Scarf Cinderace can use its fantastic Speed to be a great pivot and terrifying revenge killer.

* Thanks to Cinderace’s very high natural Speed,Choice Scarf lets it prevent Ditto from reverse sweeping after copying fast foes like bulky Zacian-C.

* High Jump Kick is Cinderace’s strongest attack outside of Dynamax.

* Gunk Shot provides valuable coverage against Fairy-types, namely Xerneas and Tapu Fini.

* Iron Head provides more accurate coverage on Xerneas and a potentially useful flinch chance to bring foes into KO range, but it sacrifices a lot of damage.

* While Sucker Punch may seem odd on a Choice Scarf set, the coverage against Calyrex-S is extremely valuable, especially against Choice Scarf variants and certain other Speed-boosted Pokemon, which outspeed even Choice Scarf Cinderace.

I couldn’t think of any funny set names so there goes my streak of every analysis I have on site getting a funne name :(

I'm still sad there wasn't a Ronaldinho Soccer 64 reference on a set name, especially after how TFA spammed that meme during Series 5 when Cinderace was on top of the world. Alas lol.

Anyway, to business:

For the Sash set, reorganize your slots/slashes to: -Pyro Ball, -Sucker Punch/High Jump Kick, -High Jump Kick/Counter, -Gunk Shot/Counter/Iron Head. CounterSash is an obvious tactic of course and it deserves its place on slashes, but not only does Counter (9.9%) have a much lower usage rate than Sash (28.9%), but the targets you mentioned in the text have trouble avoiding OHKOs from Cinderace's main moves anyway (Pyro for Zacian, HJK for Ursh-S), and most Zacian users in particular are pretty good at sensing CounterSash by now and might well just call your play and ruin the fun with Quick Attack chip into Blade/CC instead (or even just switch), while Counter into Sucker off of those damage progressions isn't KOing. Counter's biggest selling point is doing loads of damage to targets that have already dynamaxed or threats like Landorus-T that might try to take advantage of Ace to Airstream. Adamant is also the nature of choice on the high ladder from my recent experience, probably because it drastically improves Ace's chance to OHKO bulkier Zacian with Pyro Ball:

252+ Atk Cinderace-Gmax Pyro Ball vs. 220 HP / 4 Def (vanilla bulky spread) Zacian-Crowned: 186-218 (95.3 - 111.7%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Cinderace-Gmax Pyro Ball vs. 220 HP / 4 Def Zacian-Crowned: 168-200 (86.1 - 102.5%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO

In addition to the above, the extra power on Sucker Punch can also matter here, as it gives Ace a much better chance to OHKO no bulk dynamax Caly-Shadow after Stealth Rock (83-99% on dynamax Caly-S with Adamant vs 76-90% with Jolly). Add in the potential to 2HKO Helmet Quagsire with Adamant HJK (32% from full, up to 87% if it has to switch in on Rocks) and you have Adamant hitting some key thresholds. These calcs, plus the utility you mention for Gunk on hitting Xern/Fini, show both that Counter isn't a requirement and that Adamant should probably be the lead slash. Counter is a very good option of course, but I'm dubious about it being the lead slash in slot two like it would have deserved in some previous metas.

The GMax Attacker set writeup is well done. The main thing I would do there is to move Giga Impact to the 2nd slash on move 4 and then explain its specific targets. The first of the two main targets is Zapdos, where Max Strike off of Giga Impact allows Ace to keep the speed advantage in a max war without having to use a resisted Airsteam, thus allowing LO Cinderace to 2HKO no bulk offensive variants to win the dynamax faceoff. The second main target is Quagsire, as Giga Impact/Max Strike simply does more than any other move at 60%+, although obviously using it outside of max is primarily a last mon or desperation option.

For Scarf: like with Sash, Adamant should again be the first slash because of the calcs we looked at on the Sash set. Pyro also deserves top billing here, as a key selling point of Scarf Ace is the outspeed and probable OHKO on Zacian, plus Pyro is far more spammable than HJK anyway, especially when a great team composition to bring Scarf Ace against is Zacian + Caly-S. Keep U-Turn at 2nd billing for Scarf and move HJK to 3rd slot. For the 4th slot options, add that Gunk Shot is usually preferred over Iron Head because of a huge damage difference against the main targets (remember: that's a 40 BP difference even SE, and that's even before omni-STAB boosts that difference to 60 BP). This is critical against both Fini (where the damage difference is monstrous with IH only being neutral) and Xerneas (where Adamant Gunk means Xern basically needs max PhysDef to surivive without screens/max, while Adamant Iron Head misses the OHKO on just 252 HP Xern). Lastly, note that Sucker is a reasonable option in the 4th slot here mainly because Scarf Caly-S is still reasonably popular (around 30% usage this month on Caly-S), and as you mentioned it can also save the game against Airstreamers that are on super low health.

As a last note, it's worth mentioning that LO still has about twice the usage of Sash. I'm ambivalent about which set between Sash and GMax Attacker gets first billing, as I think they are comparable in effectiveness in this meta, but it's worth consulting whoever does the 2nd QC check on what order they prefer for the sets.

Once these points are implemented, consider this QC 1/2. Good work!

For Choice Scarf sets, you already talk about opponents boosting past Cinderace's Speed level, so I think it may be useful to remind readers of the interactions with Ditto (also the extent to which Ditto competes for it as choice of item). In particular, when using Choice Scarf Cinderace on a Zacian team, it will be slower than opposing Ditto-as-Zacian unless Cinderace is EV'd to be natively faster than one's own Zacian. This applies to getting copied on some set-up mons like Dusk-Mane, as you already allude to.

If Assault Vest is discussed, it may be wise to elaborate further beyond having Max Strike as a mandatory tool. Here is a recent example with an anti-Xerneas/Dialga spread: https://tomo-chansan.hatenablog.com/entry/2022/04/04/173206.

As for the issue of Life Orb vs. Focus Sash, my sense is that Life Orb is preferred, but by how much, I can't say. My experience has certainly been that even on teams that may want Focus Sash Cinderace—in no small part, again, as a way of stopping Ditto from reverse-sweeping you with your own restricted mon—it tends to be outperformed by things like Mamoswine (Speed control without having to Max Strike in Rock Tomb, option to run Stealth Rock, immune to having its Focus Sash abused by Hail/Sandstorm, harder to 1v1 for Zapdos, Freeze Dry for Water/Ground gang), Urshifu-S (Counter + Sucker Punch set, can even run Taunt), or even Landorus.

Of course, a major upside is being better in Dynamax and potentially slightly less telegraphed as a Focus Sash user than the aforementioned trio, especially Mamoswine. One of the highest-rated public Focus Sash Cinderace teams (Zacian-Dialga) from last season also explicitly mentions Shedinja as a target alongside Dusk-Mane and Calyrex-S in their context: https://gutielez6.hatenablog.com/entry/2022/04/01/231636.

So, yeah, the main thing I would like to see added is the usage caveat(s) about Ditto regarding Choice Scarf (so it can actually revenge kill even some of your own copied mons, especially Zacian). Congrats and thank you for another fine entry!

Thank you very much!! Implementing changes right now, a note about the Giga Impact point, it’s more than just Zapdos resisting flying, but Libero actually works against Cinderace here, making it weak to Max Lightning, which can be devastating if the Zapdos player is feeling particularly ballsy

Finished all the changes. There’s a couple other things I omitted to preserve accuracy, namely the part about Cinderace not Dynamaxing on its sash and scarf sets.

Cinderace actually does like to dynamax it’s sash set a fair bit, and part of what makes Cinderace so good in general is that it’s an extremely potent dynamax abuser regardless of what specific set it’s running, and if you have a particularly good matchup, it’s very easy to lead off with max fireballs and max knuckles, so saying that Cinderace’s non LO sets won’t be using dynamax isn’t very accurate. Hope that’s ok :)
